Abstract
The invention relates to a sand dispenser for preventing train wheels from skidding, characterized in that it includes a bell (10) which is to be embedded in a sand tank (1) attached under the train bodywork, and a piston (7) that is capable of carrying out a linear, alternating, up-and-down motion. Said piston is provided with two cylindrical gaskets (6) such that the linear motion of the piston makes it possible, with both gaskets thereof, to trap a defined amount of sand by volume, thus separating both gaskets while preventing any increase in moisture in the tank in the upper, lower, and intermediate piston stages. The sand dispenser is characterized in that the piston (7) is controlled by a compressed-air piston (11) that is completely isolated from the chamber in which the sand flows, and is thus safely sealed off from the air and the grains of sand. The sand dispenser is further characterized in that the bell (10) is provided with vanes in the upper portion thereof so as to transmit the vibrations of the sand, which are contained in the sand tank of the locomotive, thus sealing off the sand when the dispenser operates.
