Description

液晶滴下装置
 本発明は、液晶を滴下する液晶滴下装置に関する。
 図8を参照して、一般的な液晶滴下装置200について説明する。液晶滴下装置200は、特開2006-133251号公報(特許文献1)に開示される構成に対応している。
 液晶滴下装置200は、液晶材230が充填された液晶容器210と、液晶材230を加圧する加圧部材240と、液晶容器210の先端に設けられたノズル部250と、ノズル部250に設けられた濾過部材220と、を備える。
 液晶滴下装置200においては、液晶容器210に充填された液晶材230が、加圧部材240によって加圧される。液晶容器210に充填された液晶材230は、濾過部材220によって濾過された後、ノズル部250から吐出される。
特開2006-133251号公報
 図8に示す液晶滴下装置200においては、液晶材230が吐出されるノズル部250に濾過部材220が設けられる。濾過部材220に目詰まり等が生じたとする。この場合、加圧部材240の引き戻し動作によって液晶容器210の内部が減圧された際に、ノズル部250の吐出口面からのエアー噛みが生じることがある。エアー噛みは、再びノズル部250から液晶材230を吐出する際、ノズル部250から吐出された液晶材230中に液晶ハジキなどの欠陥を発生させる原因となる。
 本発明は、液晶を滴下する液晶滴下装置であって、滴下する液晶材にエアー噛みを生じさせることなく、液晶材中の異物を適切に濾過した状態で液晶材を滴下することができる液晶滴下装置を提供することを目的とする。
 本発明に基づく液晶滴下装置は、液晶材を貯留する液晶容器と、フィルター部を含み、上記液晶材の中に浸漬されたフィルターユニットと、上記フィルター部を通して上記液晶容器から吸い出された上記液晶材を吐出する液晶ノズルと、を備える。
 好ましくは、上記フィルターユニットは、中空状に形成された第1筒部を有する第1ユニットと、中空状に形成された第2筒部を有する第2ユニットと、を有し、上記第1ユニットおよび上記第2ユニットは、上記第1ユニットおよび上記第2ユニットの間に上記フィルター部を配置した状態で互いに一体化され、上記第1ユニットおよび上記第2ユニットが互いに一体化された状態では、上記第1筒部および上記第2筒部は、上記フィルター部を挟んで相互に連通している。
 好ましくは、上記フィルターユニットは、上記フィルター部が着脱可能に取り付けられるフィルター治具部を有する。好ましくは、上記フィルター部の平均孔径は、0.5μm以上1.0μm以下である。
 本発明によれば、液晶を滴下する液晶滴下装置であって、滴下する液晶材にエアー噛みを生じさせることなく、液晶材中の異物を適切に濾過した状態で液晶材を滴下することができる液晶滴下装置を得ることが可能となる。

 [実施の形態]
 本発明に基づいた実施の形態および実験例について、以下、図面を参照しながら説明する。実施の形態および実験例の説明において、個数、量などに言及する場合、特に記載がある場合を除き、本発明の範囲は必ずしもその個数、量などに限定されない。実施の形態および実験例の説明において、同一の部品、相当部品に対しては、同一の参照番号を付し、重複する説明は繰り返さない場合がある。
 (液晶滴下装置100)
 図1は、実施の形態における液晶滴下装置100の全体的な構成を模式的に示す断面図である。図1に示すように、液晶滴下装置100は、液晶容器10、フィルターユニット20、チューブ40,46、ダイヤフラム切替器42、液晶シリンジ44、および、液晶ノズル50を備える。
 液晶容器10は、有底筒状に構成される。液晶容器10の容量は、たとえば500mlである。液晶容器10の内部には、液晶材30が貯留される。液晶容器10の上部には、開口部12が設けられる。開口部12は、直径12Dを有する。開口部12は、蓋部材14によって閉塞される。
 フィルターユニット20は、液晶容器10の内部に配置され、液晶材30の中に浸漬される。フィルターユニット20は、チューブ40を通してダイヤフラム切替器42に接続される。チューブ40は、たとえばテフロン(登録商標)から構成される。
 液晶シリンジ44は、ダイヤフラム切替器42に連通するように設けられる。液晶ノズル50は、チューブ46を通してダイヤフラム切替器42に接続される。チューブ46も、たとえばテフロン(登録商標)から構成される。
 (フィルターユニット20)
 図2は、液晶滴下装置100(図1参照)に用いられるフィルターユニット20の分解した状態を示す断面図である。図2に示すように、フィルターユニット20は、第1ユニット21、フィルター構成体25、および、第2ユニット22を含む。
 第1ユニット21は、中空状に形成された第1円筒部23と、表面が雌ネジ状に形成された螺合部21Tと、を有する。第1ユニット21の第1円筒部23の外径は、直径21Dを有する。この直径21Dの値は、液晶容器10(図1参照)における開口部12の直径12Dの値よりも小さい。直径12D(図1参照)の値がたとえば15mmである場合、直径21Dの値は、たとえば14mm以下であるとよい。
 第2ユニット22は、中空状に形成された第2円筒部24と、表面が雄ネジ状に形成された螺合部22Tと、を有する。第1ユニット21の螺合部21Tに第2ユニット22の螺合部22Tがねじ込まれることによって、第1ユニット21および第2ユニット22同士は互いに一体化されることができる。
 フィルター構成体25は、円板状に構成される。フィルター構成体25は、直径25Dを有する。第1円筒部23における直径21Dの値がたとえば14mmである場合、直径25Dの値は、たとえば8mm以下であるとよい。
 フィルター構成体25は、メッシュ部26,28(フィルター治具部)、およびフィルター部27から構成される。メッシュ部26およびメッシュ部28は、たとえばSUS製またはPTFE(polytetrafluoroethylene:ポリテトラフルオロエチレン)製である。メッシュ部26およびメッシュ部28によって、フィルター部27が挟み込まれる。
 フィルター部27としては、液晶材30に溶け込まないたとえばテフロン(登録商標)製のものが用いられる。フィルター部27として、具体的にはたとえば日本ミリポア株式会社製のオムニポアメンブレンフィルターを用いることができる。
 図3は、液晶滴下装置100(図1参照)に用いられるフィルターユニット20の組み立てられた状態を示す断面図である。図3に示すように、フィルターユニット20が組み立てられた状態においては、第1ユニット21および第2ユニット22は、第1ユニット21および第2ユニット22の間にフィルター構成体25が配置された状態で、互いに一体化される。
 フィルター部27は、メッシュ部26,28を通して、第1ユニット21の内壁面および第2ユニット22の内壁面にそれぞれ固定される。当該固定によって、フィルター部27は、液晶材30(図1参照)の吸い上げ時において揺動することが抑制されている。
 第1ユニット21および第2ユニット22が互いに一体化された状態においては、第1ユニット21の第1円筒部23および第2ユニット22の第2円筒部24は、フィルター部27を挟んで相互に連通している。第1ユニット21の第1円筒部23内には、チューブ40が液密状に差し込まれる。チューブ40は、第1円筒部23および第2円筒部24を通して、液晶容器10(図1参照)の内部に連通する。
 (液晶滴下装置100の作用・効果)
 図1を再び参照して、液晶滴下装置100が液晶を滴下する際には、まず、液晶シリンジ44の吸引によって、フィルターユニット20内のフィルター部27(図3参照)およびチューブ40を通して、液晶容器10から液晶材30が吸い出される。
 ここで、液晶容器10に挿入されるチューブ40は、液晶材30の種類を切り替える際などに、定期的に洗浄される。このチューブ40の洗浄の際に、液晶容器10に貯留される液晶材30には、樹脂、繊維、またはPVC(Polyvinyl Chloride)などの異物が混入することがある。また、液晶容器10内に新たな液晶材30を補充する際にも、液晶容器10に貯留される液晶材30に、異物が混入することがある。
 液晶容器10内の液晶材30は、フィルター部27(図3参照)を通過する際、フィルター部27によって濾過される。液晶材30内に混入していた異物は、フィルター部27によって除去(捕獲)される。液晶材30は、異物などが除去された状態で、チューブ40へと吸い出されることができる。
 液晶材30は、チューブ40の内部を通ってダイヤフラム切替器42に供給される。ダイヤフラム切替器42を通して、液晶シリンジ44に液晶材30が供給される。液晶シリンジ44によって所定の圧力を付与された液晶材30は、チューブ46を通して液晶ノズル50から外部の基板(パネル)などに向かって吐出される。
 液晶滴下装置100によれば、フィルターユニット20のフィルター部27(図3参照)が液晶材30の内部に浸漬されている。冒頭に説明した液晶滴下装置200(図8参照)とは異なり、液晶滴下装置100においてはエアー噛みが生じることはない。上述のとおり、エアー噛みは、液晶ノズル50から吐出された液晶材30に、液晶ハジキなどの欠陥を発生させる原因となる。
 液晶滴下装置100においては、エアー噛みが生じないため、液晶ハジキなどの欠陥が発生することもない。液晶滴下装置100によれば、滴下する液晶材30にエアー噛みを生じさせることなく、液晶材30中の異物を適切に濾過した状態で液晶材30を滴下することができる。パネル不良の発生率が低下されることによって、液晶パネル基板などの製造効率を向上させることが可能となる。
 また、本実施の形態における液晶滴下装置100は、第1ユニット21および第2ユニット22が互いに着脱可能に構成されるため、フィルター構成体25を容易に交換することができる。フィルター構成体25として、たとえば直径がφ8mm、厚さが0.1mm~0.2mmの一般的に普及されているもの(いわゆる標準品)を採用することによって、交換に必要な費用も低減することができ、結果として、交換の頻度を高めることを企図することもできる。また、実験結果によれば、厚さが0.1mm~0.2mmのフィルター構成体25を用いることによって、エアー噛みの発生をさらに防止することが可能となる。
 また、冒頭に説明した液晶滴下装置200(図8参照)とは異なり、液晶滴下装置100によれば、液晶材30を加圧する液晶シリンジ44が、液晶ノズル50とは独立した系から構成される。液晶滴下装置200(図8参照)においては、液晶材230を加圧する加圧部材240とノズル部250とが同一の系内に存在する。
 液晶滴下装置100においては、液晶材30を加圧する際に、液晶シリンジ44の加圧によって、液晶ノズル50に位置ずれが生じることはほとんどない。液晶滴下装置100は、液晶滴下装置200に比べて液晶材30の滴下精度を向上させることも可能となる。
 [実験例]
 図4に示すように、チューブ40の端部に、フィルター部27を構成する部材を巻きつけた。フィルター部27を構成する部材の平均孔径が0.5μmの場合、液晶材30を吸い上げることができた。また、フィルター部27を構成する部材の平均孔径が0.5μmの場合、NR(Nitrile Rubber)異物の除去率は0.05%、シミ異物の除去率は0.
05%、微小欠陥の発生抑制率は0.05%であった。
 一方、フィルター部27の平均孔径が1.0μmより大きい場合、液晶材30を吸い上げることができたものの、NR異物の除去率、シミ異物の除去率、および微小欠陥の発生抑制率は、所定の基準値を下回った。したがって、液晶滴下装置100に適用されるフィルター部27の平均孔径は、0.5μm以上1.0μm以下であるとよいことがわかる。
 [実施の形態の変形例]
 図5に示すように、液晶滴下装置100(図1参照)に用いられるフィルター構成体25においては、フィルター部27が、メッシュ部26,28(フィルター治具部)に対して着脱可能に構成されるとよい(矢印AR参照)。
 当該構成によれば、フィルター部27を交換する際に、フィルター部27のみを交換し、メッシュ部26,28を再利用することが可能となる。また、必要に応じてフィルター部27のみを容易に交換することが可能となる。
 [比較例1]
 図6は、本比較例における液晶滴下装置101の全体的な構成を模式的に示す断面図である。図6に示すように、液晶滴下装置101においては、フィルターユニット20Aが用いられる。フィルターユニット20Aは、円柱状の長尺のフィルター部(図示せず)を内蔵する。フィルターユニット20Aは、チューブ40とダイヤフラム切替器42に接続されたチューブ48との間に設けられる。
 液晶滴下装置101の構成においては、フィルターユニット20Aとチューブ40との接続部45、および、フィルターユニット20Aとチューブ48との接続部47の双方において、微小エアーが入り込む虞がある。液晶ノズル50から液晶材30が滴下される際、この微小エアーの影響によってエアー噛みが発生し、滴下精度が低下する。
 また、液晶滴下装置101の構成においては、接続部45においてチューブ40とフィルターユニット20Aとを接続する必要がある。接続部47において、チューブ48とフィルターユニット20Aとを接続する必要がある。上述の実施の形態における液晶滴下装置100(図1参照)の構成を得る場合に比べて、液晶滴下装置101の構成を得るには、より多くの時間、費用および労力が必要となる。
 上述のとおり、液晶滴下装置101の構成においては、フィルターユニット20Aの内部にフィルター部が設けられる。このフィルター部がフィルターユニット20Aから着脱可能に構成されない場合には、上述の実施の形態の変形例の場合とは異なり、フィルターユニット20Aの全体を交換する必要がある。
 [比較例2]
 図7は、本比較例における液晶滴下装置102の全体的な構成を模式的に示す断面図である。図7に示すように、液晶滴下装置102においては、フィルターユニット20Bが用いられる。フィルターユニット20Bは、円板状の短尺のフィルター部(図示せず)を内蔵する。フィルターユニット20Bは、チューブ40とダイヤフラム切替器42に接続されたチューブ48との間に設けられる。
 液晶滴下装置102の構成においては、フィルターユニット20Bとチューブ40との接続部45、および、フィルターユニット20Bとチューブ48との接続部47の双方において、微小エアーが入り込む虞がある。液晶ノズル50から液晶材30が滴下される際、この微小エアーの影響によってエアー噛みが発生し、滴下精度が低下する。
 また、液晶滴下装置102の構成においては、接続部45においてチューブ40とフィルターユニット20Bとを接続する必要がある。接続部47において、チューブ48とフィルターユニット20Bとを接続する必要がある。上述の実施の形態における液晶滴下装置100(図1参照)の構成を得る場合に比べて、液晶滴下装置102の構成を得るには、より多くの時間、費用および労力が必要となる。
 上述のとおり、液晶滴下装置102の構成においては、フィルターユニット20Bの内部にフィルター部が設けられる。このフィルター部がフィルターユニット20Bから着脱可能に構成されない場合には、上述の実施の形態の変形例の場合とは異なり、フィルターユニット20Bの全体を交換する必要がある。
 以上、本発明に基づいた実施の形態、実験例、および比較例について説明したが、今回開示された実施の形態、実験例、および比較例はすべての点で例示であって制限的なものではない。本発明の技術的範囲は請求の範囲によって示され、請求の範囲と均等の意味および範囲内でのすべての変更が含まれることが意図される。

Claims (4)

  1.  液晶材(30)を貯留する液晶容器(10)と、
     フィルター部(27)を含み、前記液晶材の中に浸漬されたフィルターユニット(20)と、
     前記フィルター部を通して前記液晶容器から吸い出された前記液晶材を吐出する液晶ノズル(50)と、を備える、
    液晶滴下装置。
  2.  前記フィルターユニット(20)は、
     中空状に形成された第1筒部(23)を有する第1ユニット(21)と、
     中空状に形成された第2筒部(24)を有する第2ユニット(22)と、を有し、
     前記第1ユニットおよび前記第2ユニットは、前記第1ユニットおよび前記第2ユニットの間に前記フィルター部を配置した状態で互いに一体化され、
     前記第1ユニットおよび前記第2ユニットが互いに一体化された状態では、前記第1筒部および前記第2筒部は、前記フィルター部を挟んで相互に連通している、
    請求項1に記載の液晶滴下装置。
  3.  前記フィルターユニットは、前記フィルター部が着脱可能に取り付けられるフィルター治具部(26,28)を有する、
    請求項1または2に記載の液晶滴下装置。
  4.  前記フィルター部(27)の平均孔径は、0.5μm以上1.0μm以下である、
    請求項1から3のいずれかに記載の液晶滴下装置。
