Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of composite materials, in particular materials including carbon fibers.
- the composite materials industry commonly uses carbon fibers because of their lightness combined with high mechanical strength. In the field of aeronautics, it is particularly advantageous to replace metal elements by composite elements, for reasons of weight gain.
- a carbon composite material typically comprises a reinforcement made of carbon fibers.
- Some types of carbon fibers have good heat transfer and / or electrical properties.
- the fibers consisting of carbon nanotubes are particularly efficient, as for example described in EP2145972.
- the fibers of a composite material are conventionally incorporated in a polymer matrix, generally insulating.
- the material obtained is therefore anisotropic, the thermal and / or electrical transfer taking place essentially in the direction of the fibers. This effect is particularly pronounced in unidirectional carbon sheets, in which the fibers are arranged in a main direction.
- the packaging of an avionics electronic box is made of metal, especially aluminum alloy. There is therefore almost no problem of exchange or transmission of energy between the different parts of it. For reasons of weight gain, it would be advantageous to replace the metal with a composite material. However, it would be difficult for the composite to provide sufficient heat dissipation to meet the current stress levels, imposed by the increase in the power dissipated by the electronics.
- the present invention aims to solve these problems. Indeed, the invention relates to composite parts comprising a metal interface element, said element ensuring the transfer of thermal and / or electrical flows through the carbon fibers.
- An object of the invention is therefore a structural part made of composite material, comprising one or more plies of unidirectional carbon fibers along a first axis, said part further comprising a metallic element aligned with the carbon ply or plies along said first axis. , said part being characterized in that it comprises a first contact surface between the fibers of the carbon fold or folds and the metal element, said surface being substantially parallel to the first axis.
- the overlap between the carbon fibers and the metallic element allows thermal and / or electrical transfer between said carbon fibers and said metal element.
- the part comprises a plurality of unidirectional carbon plies along the first axis, said plies being superimposed along a second axis perpendicular to the first axis, each ply having a first contact surface with the metal element, said surface being substantially parallel to the first axis and substantially perpendicular to the second axis.
- the piece further comprises at least one unidirectional carbon fold disposed along a third axis, said axis forming an angle between 0 and 90 ° with the first axis, said fold being interposed according to the second axis between two unidirectional folds along the first axis.
- the piece may for example have three fold directions, forming between them angles of ⁇ 60 °.
- the part may also comprise three or four fold directions, forming between them angles of ⁇ 45 ° or ⁇ 90 °.
- the fold disposed along the third axis comprises a second contact surface with the metal element, said surface being substantially parallel to the first axis and substantially perpendicular to the second axis.
- thermal and / or electrical transfer can also be achieved with the non-oriented carbon fibers parallel to the first axis of the workpiece.
- At least one contact surface formed by the metal element comprises perforations and / or reliefs.
- a rough and / or irregular surface has a better contact with the carbon fibers, which improves the heat transfer and / or electrical.
- Another object of the invention is an electronic component support, comprising a piece of composite material as described above.
- the heat transfer in said room being optimized, the latter can be incorporated in a heat exchanger for dissipating the thermal power of an electronic component.
- Figure 1 is a partial schematic view of a structural part according to one embodiment of the invention.
- Figure 2 is a partial schematic view, from above, of a structural part according to one embodiment of the invention
- Figure 3 is a schematic sectional view of the structural part of Figure 2;
- Figure 4 is a schematic sectional view of a structural part according to one embodiment of the invention.
- Figure 1 shows a partial schematic view of a structural part 10 according to one embodiment of the invention.
- the piece 10 made of composite material comprises a fold 1 1 of carbon. Said fold 11 is formed of carbon fibers 12.
- the fibers 12 are incorporated in a polymer matrix (not shown), preferably an epoxy resin.
- the fold 11 is unidirectional, that is to say that the fibers 12 are arranged unidirectionally, substantially parallel to an axis 13.
- the fibers 12 are arranged substantially flat, so that a thickness of the fold 1 1 is substantially equal to the thickness of a fiber 12.
- Some carbon fibers for example pitch fibers with high thermal conductivity, have very good thermal and / or electrical conduction properties. The conduction takes place mainly along the axis 13 of the fibers. On the contrary, the polymer matrix is generally a good thermal and electrical insulator.
- the piece 10 made of composite material comprises a metal element 14 aligned with the fold 1 1 of carbon along the axis 13.
- the element 14, by its metallic nature, is able to conduct the heat and the electric current.
- the part 10 has a surface 15 covering between the carbon fold and the metal element.
- the surface 15 ensures contact between the fibers 12 and the element 14 substantially parallel to the axis 13. This contact surface allows thermal and / or electrical transfer between the fibers 12 and the metal element 14.
- element 14 then makes it possible to ensure thermal and / or electrical transfer in several directions, and not only along axis 13.
- FIG. 2 shows a partial schematic view of a part 20 made of composite material, according to another embodiment of the invention. More specifically, FIG. 2 shows some carbon plies of the part 20.
- the part 20 comprises in particular a fold 21 of carbon.
- the fold 21 is formed of a ply of unidirectional fibers 22, arranged along a first axis 23.
- a Cartesian coordinate system (X, Y, Z), in which the axis 23 is parallel to the axis X, the fold 21 being disposed in a plane (X, Y).
- the part 20 comprises several folds 21 unidirectional along the axis 23. These folds 21 are superimposed along the Z axis.
- the part 20 further comprises a ply 24 formed of a unidirectional fiber ply, said fibers being disposed along a second axis 25.
- the axis 25 forms for example with the axis 23 an angle of + 60 °.
- the piece 20 comprises several folds 24 unidirectional along the axis 25. These folds 24 are superimposed along the Z axis and interspersed with the folds 21.
- the part 20 further comprises a ply 26 formed of a unidirectional fiber ply, said fibers being disposed along a third axis 27.
- the axis 27 forms for example with the axis 23 an angle a 'of -60 °.
- the part 20 comprises several folds 26 unidirectional along the axis 27. These folds 26 are superimposed along the Z axis and interspersed with the folds 21 and 24.
- layers of other types of materials may be interposed between the folds (21, 24, 26) of carbon, for example to modify the mechanical properties of the part 20.
- These layers may include in particular glass fibers.
- FIG. 3 shows a diagrammatic sectional view along a plane (X, Z) of the part 20, of which carbon folds are represented in FIG. 2.
- the part 20 comprises folds (21, 24, 26) alternately superposed along the axis Z.
- the carbon fibers of said plies are secured by a matrix 28, for example an epoxy resin.
- the part 20 further comprises a metal element 29, aligned with the folds (21, 24, 26) of carbon along the axis 23.
- the metal element 29 comprises blades (30, 31) parallel metal, arranged in planes (X, Y).
- the folds (21, 24, 26) of carbon are interposed between said blades. Consequently, each fold (21, 24, 26) is in contact with the element 29 metal by at least one surface (32, 33) of contact disposed in a plane (X, Y).
- the electrical and / or thermal conduction in the carbon fibers takes place mainly along the axis of the fiber.
- blades 30 are intended to be in contact with folds ( 24, 26) whose axis of the fibers is oriented obliquely with respect to the axis X.
- Said blades 30 may be longer along said axis X than blades 31 intended to be in contact with folds 21 unidirectional along the X axis
- the length of the blades 30 allows them to be in contact with a greater number of fibers, which improves the electrical and / or thermal transfer.
- a variant of the invention is illustrated by a second metal element 34 belonging to the part 20 of FIG. 3.
- the element 34 is aligned with the folds (21, 24, 26) of carbon along the axis 23, on the side opposite to item 29.
- the element 34 promotes the thermal and / or electrical transfer, in priority with the unidirectional folds 21 along the axis X / 23.
- the element 34 comprises blades 35 similar to the blades (30, 31), but preferably arranged in contact with folds 21. Certain carbon folds of the part 20, in particular folds 24 or 26, may therefore not be in contact with the blades 35 of the element 34.
- the metal element has substantially a comb-shaped section in a plane (X, Z). More specifically, the blades (30, 31) are integral with a metal support 36.
- the support 36 being isotropic, it can serve as an interface with the folds (21, 24, 26) to continue a thermal transfer and / or electrical in directions not contained in a plane (X, Y). More precisely, the thermal and / or electrical transfer can take place along the Z axis in the support 36.
- a method of assembling the folds (21, 24, 26) with a metal element 29 consists in inserting between the blades (30, 31) carbon sheets pre-impregnated with resin, and then performing an autoclave polymerization of said resin .
- the metal element consists of metal blades whose first part forms a surface 37 of contact with a fold of carbon. Furthermore, a second portion of the blades 35 is traversed by a fastening element 38, preferentially thermal and / or electrical conductor.
- the element 38 is for example a metal screw disposed along the axis Z. The screw 38 serves to secure the blades 35 forming the element 34, as well as to provide a thermal transfer and / or electrical Z-axis.
- a material 39 possibly insulating, such as PTFE-coated fabric.
- the material layers 39 prevent creep of the resin 28 between the blades 35 during the formation of the part 20.
- Figure 3 is given by way of illustrative example of the invention; however, for parts 20 having a metal element at each end of the main axis 23, it is preferable that the two elements (29, 34) metal have a structure and / or identical configuration to optimize the transfer electric or thermal.
- the second portion of the blades 35 of the element 34 is inserted between the carbon folds of another composite part.
- the element 34 then plays the role of interface between two composite parts rather than between a composite part and a metal part.
- the same variant can be applied to the element 29, the latter then comprising two comb profiles, located vis-a-vis with respect to a plane (Y, Z).
- blades (30, 31, 35) of metal elements (29, 34) are pierced with holes of small size relative to the dimensions of said blades. Carbon fibers are able to penetrate into said holes during the formation of the part 20, which improves the thermal and / or electrical contact.
- FIG. 4 shows a detail view of a part 40 according to another embodiment of the invention.
- the piece 40 is shown in section in the same Cartesian frame as the part 20 of FIG.
