Definitions
- the present invention relates to an optical component that can efficiently absorb pumping light with a simple configuration by using an amplification optical fiber, an optical fiber amplifier using the optical component, and a fiber laser device.
- a fiber laser device using an optical fiber for amplification has excellent light condensing performance, a small beam spot with high power density can be obtained, and non-contact processing is possible. Used in various fields. In particular, the output of fiber laser devices used in the processing field and the medical field has been increased.
- An amplification optical fiber used in a fiber laser device includes a core to which an active element is added and a clad that covers the outer peripheral surface of the core.
- the pumping light propagating through the cladding of the amplifying optical fiber is absorbed by the active element, so that the active element is brought into an excited state, and the amplified element is propagated through the core by stimulated emission of the activated element in the excited state.
- the light is amplified and emitted. Therefore, it is desirable that the excitation light incident on the amplification optical fiber is absorbed by the active element without waste.
- an optical fiber for amplification it is known that a part of pumping light propagates only through the cladding and skew light that is not absorbed by the active element is generated.
- Patent Document 1 describes an amplification optical fiber that suppresses such skew light.
- the outer shape of the cross section of the clad (denoted as the second core) through which the pump light propagates is made quadrangular, or the pump light scattering means is provided on a part of the clad. Yes.
- the amplification optical fiber scatters the skew light of the excitation light so that the scattered light passes through the core.
- the amplification optical fiber described in Patent Document 1 requires a special shape of the clad as described above, and specially suppresses skew light from the base material manufacturing stage for manufacturing the amplification optical fiber. Need to design. Therefore, there is a demand for an optical component that can reduce the skew light with a simple configuration using the amplification optical fiber and can efficiently absorb the excitation light.
- the present invention provides an optical component that can efficiently absorb pumping light with a simple configuration using an amplification optical fiber, and an optical fiber amplifier and fiber laser device using the optical component. For the purpose.
- An optical component of the present invention includes an amplification optical fiber having a core to which an active element is added, a cladding that propagates excitation light that excites the active element, and a length direction of the amplification optical fiber.
- a plurality of non-continuous clad portions are provided with an optical coupling portion integrated along the longitudinal direction so as to be optically coupled to each other.
- the clad portions are integrated so as to be optically coupled. Therefore, in the optical coupling portion, the condition for propagating the light of the clad propagates the light of the cladding other than the optical coupling portion. Different from the conditions. Therefore, the propagation mode of the excitation light propagating in the clad is greatly disturbed in the optical coupling part, whether it travels as it is in one clad part or propagates from one clad part to the other clad part. Therefore, the propagation mode of the excitation light skew light is also disturbed, and the skew light is reduced.
- an optical component there is no need to make the outer shape of the clad special throughout the length of the optical fiber for amplification, and the skew light can be reduced with a simple configuration, and The optical fiber can efficiently absorb the pumping light.
- Coupled means a state in which light can propagate unless otherwise specified. Therefore, optically coupling the clad portions means that light can propagate through the coupled clad portions.
- At least one of the clad portions is integrated with at least one other clad portion in opposite directions.
- the clad parts are connected in the opposite direction.
- the directions from one end of the optical fiber for amplification to the other end are in the opposite directions, and the clad parts are connected to each other.
- the excitation light can be propagated in both directions with respect to the amplification optical fiber.
- the clad portions are integrated in the same direction.
- the pump light does not pass through the amplification optical fiber. It propagates in the direction from the one end side toward the other end side. That is, in the amplification optical fiber, the direction in which the excitation light propagates does not change. Therefore, when an excitation light source is disposed on one end side of the amplification optical fiber, it is possible to prevent the excitation light from returning to the excitation light source and improve reliability.
- the outer shape of the cladding is non-circular, skew light can be reduced compared to the case where the outer shape of the cladding is circular.
- the light propagation conditions are different between the specific clad portion and other clad portions having different external orientations from the specific clad portion. Therefore, the excitation light propagating from a specific cladding portion to another cladding portion having an external shape different from that of the specific cladding portion has a more disturbed propagation mode due to a difference in light propagation conditions in each cladding portion. Therefore, the skew light can be further reduced.
- the respective clad portions are integrated with each other by fusion bonding.
- the outer peripheral surface of each clad in the optical coupling portion is more disordered than the outer peripheral surface of the clad other than the optical coupling portion. Due to the disturbance of the shape of the outer peripheral surface of the clad, the propagation mode of the excitation light is disturbed. In this way, skew light can be further reduced by disturbing the propagation mode of skew light.
- the skew light is reduced in the optical component as described above, and the amplification optical fiber can efficiently absorb the pumping light. can do.
- an optical component capable of efficiently absorbing pumping light with a simple configuration an optical fiber amplifier using the optical component, and A fiber laser device is provided.

That is, in the optical coupling portion 61, even if the outer shape of the clad portion 32a and the outer shape of the clad portion 32b are to be overlapped with each other, the respective outer shapes are oriented so as not to match each other.
- the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b are fused and integrated in a state of being arranged along the longitudinal direction. Accordingly, the seed light emitted from the seed light source 10 and the excitation light emitted from the excitation light source 20 are incident on the core 31 and the clad 32 from the one end 36 side of the amplification optical fiber 30, respectively.
- the fiber laser device 1 is a so-called forward pumping type fiber laser device in which pumping light is incident from the seed light incident side of the amplification optical fiber 30.

- a part of the pumping light propagating in the clad portion 32a in the optical coupling portion 61 has its propagation mode disturbed while propagating through the clad portion 32a, and further, the one end 36 side (excitation light source 20 side) of the amplification optical fiber 30.
- the optical coupling portion 61 is emitted from the clad portion 32a side.
- light reaching the optical coupling unit 61 as skew light is emitted from the optical coupling unit 61 as normal excitation light due to the disturbance of the propagation mode.
- a part of the excitation light that has passed through the optical coupling portion 61 from the clad portion 32a side propagates through the loop portion 71 from the one end 36 side to the other end 37 side of the amplification optical fiber.
- the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b are coupled, another part of the excitation light propagating through the clad portion 32a in the optical coupling portion 61 propagates from the clad portion 32a to the clad portion 32b. At this time, the other part of the pumping light propagates between the clad portions 32a and 32b so that the propagation mode is disturbed and propagates. Furthermore, as described above, in the optical coupling portion 61, the direction of the outer shape of the cladding portion 32a is different from the direction of the outer shape of the cladding portion 32b.
- the light propagation conditions in the clad portion 32a are different from the light propagation conditions in the clad portion 32b, and the excitation light propagating from the clad portion 32a to the clad portion 32b is light from the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b.
- the propagation mode is further disturbed by the difference in propagation conditions.
- the excitation light propagating from the clad part 32a to the clad part 32b is disturbed in the propagation mode and exits the optical coupling part 61 from the clad part 32b side.
- light reaching the optical coupling unit 61 as skew light is emitted from the optical coupling unit 61 as normal excitation light due to the disturbance of the propagation mode.
- the other part of the pumping light emitted from the optical coupling portion 61 from the clad portion 32b side amplifies the loop portion 71 because the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b face each other as described above.
- the optical fiber 30 propagates from the other end 37 side to the one end 36 side.
- a part of the excitation light propagating from the loop part 71 to the clad part 32b of the optical coupling part 61 propagates through the clad part 32b and the other part propagates from the clad part 32b to the clad part 32a.
- a part of the excitation light propagating from the loop portion 71 to the cladding portion 32a of the optical coupling portion 61 propagates through the cladding portion 32a, and the other portion propagates from the cladding portion 32a to the cladding portion 32b.
- the propagation mode of the excitation light is disturbed, and the skew light is reduced.
- the excitation light with reduced skew light passes through the core 31, it is absorbed by the active element added to the core 31 and excites the active element.
- the excited active element causes stimulated emission, the seed light propagating through the core 31 is amplified by this stimulated emission, and is emitted from the other end 37 of the amplification optical fiber 30 as emitted light.
- the clad portions 32a and 32b are integrated so as to be optically coupled.
- the propagation conditions of the 32 excitation light are different from the propagation conditions of the excitation light of the clad other than the optical coupling portion 61. Therefore, the propagation mode of the excitation light propagating through the clad 32 is greatly disturbed in the optical coupling part 61 both in the case of traveling only in the clad part 32a and in the case of propagating from the clad part 32a to the clad part 32b. For this reason, the propagation mode of the skew light of the excitation light is also disturbed, and the skew light is reduced. Therefore, according to such an optical component 51, it is not necessary to make the outer shape of the clad 32 special throughout the length direction of the amplification optical fiber 30, and skew light can be reduced with a simple configuration. The excitation light can be absorbed efficiently.
- the skew light is reduced as described above, and the amplification optical fiber 30 can efficiently absorb the pumping light. Therefore, the optical fiber amplifier 6 is the pumping light source 20 having the same power. However, the amplification factor can be higher, and the fiber laser device 1 can increase the amplification efficiency of the seed light.
- FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a fiber laser device according to the second embodiment of the present invention.
- the fiber laser device 2 of this embodiment differs from the fiber laser device 1 of the first embodiment in that an optical fiber amplifier 7 is provided instead of the optical fiber amplifier 6 of the first embodiment. - the optical component 52 includes an optical coupling unit 62 instead of the optical coupling unit 61 in the amplification optical fiber 30 of the first embodiment.
- the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b are integrated so as to face opposite sides, whereas in the optical coupling portion 62 of the present embodiment, the cladding portion 32a is integrated.
- the portions 32a and 32b are integrated in the same direction. That is, in the optical coupling part 61 of the first embodiment, the directions of the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b from the one end 36 side to the other end 37 side of the amplification optical fiber 30 are opposite to each other.
- the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b are separated from the one end 36 side of the amplification optical fiber 30.
- the directions toward the end 37 are aligned and integrated in the longitudinal direction in a state where they face the same direction.
- the integrated state of the clad portions 32a and 32b in the optical coupling portion 62 is the same as the integrated state of the clad portions 32a and 32b in the optical coupling portion 61 of the first embodiment. Therefore, when the optical coupling portion 62 is enlarged, the clad portions 32a and 32b face the same direction as the optical coupling portion 61 unlike the optical coupling portion 61 of the first embodiment, but look similar to the state shown in FIG.
- the structure in the cross section of FIG. 4 looks similar to the structure in the cross section of the optical coupling portion 61 shown in FIG.
- the cladding portion 32a and the cladding portion 32b are integrated along the longitudinal direction, so that a part of the amplification optical fiber 30 is a loop portion 72 from the cladding portion 32a to the cladding portion 32b. It is said.
- the loop portion 71 of the amplification optical fiber 30 of the first embodiment is connected to the one end 36 side of the optical coupling portion 61, whereas the loop portion 72 of the amplification optical fiber 30 of the present embodiment is Since the clad portion 32a and the clad portion 32b face each other in the same direction, they are connected so as to sandwich the optical coupling portion 62 therebetween.
- the cladding portions 32a and 32b are connected to face in the same direction, so that the excitation light is propagated from the cladding portion 32a to the cladding portion 32b.
