Abstract

The aim of the invention is to improve the quasi-periodically produced, dynamic load change with multiple nominal torque for example in rolling mill drives. In order to achieve this, a synchronous machine comprising a stator, a rotor which can be rotated about an axis in or about the stator, a rotor winding (10) comprising a high temperature super conductor, a stator winding and a damper device, the first part of said damper device being thermally insulated in relation to the rotor winding (10), is provided. In the first part, a damper shield (20) can be supplemented by additional damper elements (21) in the pole gaps. Alternatively and/or in addition thereto, a second part (21 ' and/or 30, 31, 32, 33) of the damper device is arranged without essential thermal insulation in relation to the rotor winding. The space in the cold rotor part is also used for a damper winding.
