Definitions
- the present invention relates to devices for packaging and applying a cosmetic composition and more particularly, but not exclusively, devices for packaging and applying a composition intended to be applied to the eyelashes and/or eyebrows.
- the devices conventionally used comprise, on the one hand, a container comprising a neck provided with a wiping member and, on the other hand, an applicator comprising a stem provided at one end with a brush and at the other end with a gripping member that also constitutes a container closure member.
- the various components of such devices are made from different materials. These devices are difficult to recycle in practice, since their components are made from materials that cannot be recycled together. In particular, materials that are not compatible for recycling because they originate from different molecular chains are often used, and also non-recyclable elastomers. Metal may also be used, especially for the application member, since most mascara applicators comprise a brush constituted of a twisted metal core which tightly encircles bristles.
- Application members have been developed in recent years that comprise application elements made by moulding one or more thermoplastics.
- the absence of a metal core makes it possible to produce the device entirely from plastics, which may render it recyclable provided that the components are sorted in order to group together those that are compatible for being recycled together.
- Patent US 6 200 051 describes a device with an applicator that does not have a metal core.
- Publication WO 2009/153761 describes a device comprising a wiping member and a container produced as a single piece from the same material.
- Application FR 2 931 643 describes an application device with a stem and brush that are made from plastics of different hardnesses.
- the rate of emptying of the container in the devices conventionally used is usually insufficient.
- the amount of product remaining in the container at the end of the use of the device is sometimes relatively excessive and is detrimental to the thorough recycling of the device.
- one subject of the invention is a device for packaging and applying a cosmetic product, especially to the eyelashes and/or eyebrows, comprising:
- a closure member for the container defining a gripping surface
- the device advantageously comprises a means that makes possible to have a rate of emptying of greater than 70%.
- the body of the container is produced with at least two parts that can be moved relative to one another, making it possible to mix the product in the container, or the application member has a transverse cross section that occupies at least 70% of the internal cross section of the container, at least in the storage configuration.
- thermoplastics the chemical nature of which renders their simultaneous recycling compatible.
- rate of emptying should be understood to mean the amount by weight of product removed by the applicator under normal conditions of use of the device, relative to the initial amount.
- the normal conditions of use do not involve shaking the device, and the stem of the applicator is always removed along its longitudinal axis.
- the container is positioned vertically, the applicator is removed vertically, the application member wiped, then the applicator is reintroduced vertically, and so on until the amount of product removed by the applicator is substantially zero.
- this action is carried out as many times as necessary in order to empty the container as best possible.
- the two moveable parts are moved relative to one another after each time the applicator is returned to the container, the removal and return of the applicator taking place vertically with a container that is also vertical.
- the packaging and application device may be easily recycled, without it being necessary to first separate its components.
- thermoplastics used for producing the components of the device may be chosen from materials belonging solely to the family of polyolefms, for example polypropylenes (PPs), or solely to that of poly formaldehydes (POMs), or solely to that of polyamides (PAs).
- PPs polypropylenes
- POMs poly formaldehydes
- PAs polyamides
- polystyrene foams use may be made, for certain components, of a polypropylene and for others, of a polyethylene, for example high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and/or low-density polyethylene (LDPE).
- a polyethylene for example high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and/or low-density polyethylene (LDPE).
- HDPE high-density polyethylene
- LDPE low-density polyethylene
- the body of the container, the stem of the applicator and the closure member are made of PP and the wiping member and the application member are made of LDPE.
- the materials from the family of polyamides are preferably used for devices intended for the application of a water-resistant cosmetic product.
- thermoplastic resin identification code which is a system of labelling by the type of plastic, which is used to help in the recycling thereof, and that can be spotted to date on packaging by a triangle of arrows, inside which a number is found that indicates the type of plastic used.
- the application member is non-metallic.
- the product applied is formed of an aqueous base and/or contains only ingredients of natural origin.
- the wiping member may be overmoulded onto the container or moulded with the container, but is preferably added onto the container.
- the application member may be added onto the stem or moulded with it, for example overmoulded onto it.
- the device is preferably structured so as to make possible a degree of emptying of greater than 80%, better still greater than 90%.
- the application member and the container have shapes and dimensions that make it possible to increase the rate of emptying.
- the container defines an internal space containing the product, having a height H preferably at least two times greater than the length L of the application member, and the largest transverse cross section of the surface envelope of the application member occupies at least 70%>, better still at least 75%, even better still at least 80%, 85%, 90% or 95%, of the internal cross section of the container, at least along a portion of the path covered by the application member as it is removed from the container, this portion preferably having a height at least equal to twice the length L of the application member.
- the application member may recover the product present on the inner surface of the container and the degree of emptying of the container is thereby improved.
- the container contains less residual product, which facilitates its recycling.
- the application member moves with a zero distance or with a distance between the side wall of the container and the application member of less than 3 mm, better still 2 mm, even better still 1.5 mm or 0.5 mm, over most of the height H of the internal space of the container, and preferably at least partially in the lower half of the container, better still over the entire height of the internal space of the container under the wiping member.
- the internal diameter of the container, under the wiping member is less than or equal to the largest diameter of the application member, so that the application member comes into contact with the inner surface of the container and rubs against it.
- the application member behaves as a mixer or scraper, inside the container, over one portion at least of the path for introducing or removing the applicator into/from the container, the product contained in the container is mixed, which may improve the characteristics of the product and the loading of the application member.
- the bottom of the container advantageously has a shape that substantially matches that of the surface envelope of the application member.
- the dead volume of product defined by the volume outside of the application member but inside the container, over the section of the container extending axially between the proximal end of the application member when the applicator is in the storage position in the container and the bottom of the container, may be less than or equal to the volume of the application member, for example less than or equal to 3 ⁇ 4 of this volume, better still 1 ⁇ 2 of this volume.
- volume of the application member denotes the volume defined by the surface envelope of the application member. This reduces the risk of accumulation, at the bottom of the container, of an amount of product that would not be able to be removed by the applicator.
- the container comprises a first part and a second part, the second part being able to be rotated by the user relative to the first part, and defining at least one surface in contact with the product inside the container, the application member and said surface being arranged so that a rotation of said surface exerts a pressure on the product causing a movement of product towards the application member.
- the two parts may define the body of the container when snap-fastened to one another.
- the second part may comprise a blade.
- the latter may be produced monolithically with the second part.
- the blade may comprise at least one portion added onto the second part.
- the aforementioned surface may extend up to a wall of the first part delimiting the internal space containing the product. This may for example make it possible, at a radially outer edge of the second part, to scrape the aforementioned wall and to improve the emptying of the container.
- Said surface may extend at least partially parallel to the axis of rotation of the second part.
- Said surface may also extend at least partially along a radial plane containing the axis of rotation of the second part.
- Said surface may extend along two radii at least.
- Said surface may or may not be secant to the axis of rotation.
- Said surface may especially have a certain warp, and especially have a shape suitable for improving the flow of the product over the entire height of the application member.
- Said surface may especially be configured to bring back up, as it rotates, the product that has a tendency to accumulate at the bottom of the container. Said surface may thus have a portion inclined downwards and in its direction of movement.
- Said surface may also have a lower edge that substantially matches the shape of a bottom wall of the container, so as to scrape the product deposited on this bottom wall.
- Said surface may comprise a radially inner edge, which is for example curved downwards and inwards, in order to substantially match the shape of the application member housed in the internal space.
- Said surface may have a radially outer edge that substantially matches the shape of a side wall of the container.
- Said surface may have a radially inner edge that substantially matches the profile of the application member.
- the first part may define a countersurface compared with which the aforementioned blade may come at least partially face to face, at the end of the rotation of the second part.
- This countersurface may extend substantially radially towards the centre of the container.
- the countersurface may be defined by a partition forming a projection in the internal space of the container containing the product.
- the container may or may not be monolithic.
- the capacity of the container is for example less than or equal to 10 ml, better still 5 ml.
- the application member, the stem and the closure member may be moulded as a single piece.
- the wiping member and the container may also be moulded as a single piece.
