Definitions
- the present invention relates to a rubber analysis method (hereinafter, also simply referred to as “analysis method”), and more specifically, molecular weight, branching and gel fraction of ultra high molecular weight components and natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber having many branches.
- analysis method also simply referred to as “analysis method”
- the present invention relates to a rubber analysis method for evaluating the higher order structure of rubber.
- Non-Patent Documents 1 to 3 describe that a field flow fractionation (hereinafter also referred to as “FFF”) apparatus, FFF and multi-angle light scattering (for the structural analysis of natural rubber and diene synthetic rubber)
- FFF field flow fractionation
- multi-angle light scattering for the structural analysis of natural rubber and diene synthetic rubber
- the average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution information of natural rubber and diene-based synthetic rubber obtained by conventional GPC analysis methods are not compatible with processed physical properties such as Mooney viscosity. There was concern that it might not have been obtained. This is because among the solvent-soluble components constituting natural rubber and diene-based synthetic rubber, the ultra-high molecular weight component is excluded by a filter (pore size: 0.45 ⁇ m) during filter filtration, which is a pretreatment of GPC, This is probably because it is not included in the molecular weight distribution obtained by GPC.
- an object of the present invention is to solve the above problems and provide a rubber analysis method capable of analyzing natural rubber and diene-based synthetic rubber within a range including ultrahigh molecular weight components that could not be analyzed by conventional methods. There is.
- the present inventor conducted ultracentrifugation of a solution obtained by dissolving natural rubber and / or diene-based synthetic rubber in an organic solvent at a centrifugal acceleration in the range of 10,000 G to 1,000,000 G. It has been found that by using a technique for separating a soluble component and an insoluble component, it is possible to extract and analyze only a soluble component containing an ultra-high molecular weight component, and the present invention has been completed.
- the rubber analysis method of the present invention comprises a dissolving step of dissolving natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber in an organic solvent, and a solution of the dissolved natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber is subjected to a centrifugal acceleration of 10,000. And a separation step of separating a soluble component and an insoluble component in the solution by centrifugation at G to 1,000,000 G.
- the soluble component in the separated solution can be analyzed by an FFF apparatus. More specifically, an FFF apparatus (hereinafter referred to as an FFF apparatus) connected to a MALS detector for measuring the molecular weight and the radius of rotation is measured. , Also referred to as “FFF-MALS”).
- the FFF device is a device capable of molecular weight fractionation by passing a sample solution through a gap (channel) of 100 ⁇ m to 500 ⁇ m and applying a field when passing through the channel.
- centrifugal force, temperature difference, electric field, and the like as a method for applying the field, but an asymmetric flow FFF apparatus in which one wall of the gap is a semipermeable membrane and the solvent is sucked from the wall with a syringe pump is preferable.
- the FFF device a solution in which either one or both of a MALS detector or a single angle light scattering device and a viscosity detector are connected to each other is used.
- the molecular weight and branching index of the soluble component can be analyzed.
- the centrifugation is preferably performed by an ultracentrifuge capable of bringing the centrifugal site into a vacuum state, and is preferably performed by a metal centrifuge tube.
- the centrifugal acceleration of the centrifugal separation is preferably 30,000 to 500,000 G, more preferably 100,000 to 200,000 G.
- at least 1 sort (s) selected from tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, toluene, and a cyclohexane can be used conveniently, More preferably, tetrahydrofuran is used.
- the above configuration realizes a rubber analysis method capable of analyzing natural rubber and diene-based synthetic rubber within a range including ultra-high molecular weight components that could not be analyzed by conventional methods. Became possible.

It is a graph which shows the Log-Log plot of the turning radius and molecular weight of natural rubber obtained by FFF-MALS, (A) is a thing of natural rubber, (B) is a straight line obtained from a linear standard reference material .
- 3 is a graph showing the number of branch points / molecule distribution of natural rubber measured by FFF-MALS.
- FIG. 2 is a graph showing an elution curve (A) of natural rubber obtained by GPC-MALS and a molecular weight (B) at each point of the elution curve. It is a graph which shows the Log-Log plot of the turning radius and molecular weight of natural rubber obtained by GPC-MALS, (A) is a thing of natural rubber, (B) is a straight line obtained from a linear standard reference material . It is explanatory drawing which shows a Debye plot.
- a natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber to be analyzed is dissolved in an organic solvent (dissolution step), and the dissolved natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber is analyzed.
- a centrifugal acceleration of 10,000 G to 1,000,000 G a centrifugal acceleration of 10,000 G to 1,000,000 G, a soluble component and an insoluble component in the solution are separated (separation step).
- Centrifugation is a common separation technique, but in the present invention, a so-called ultracentrifugation technique with a centrifugal acceleration of 10,000 G to 1 million G is used, so that natural rubber and / or diene-based synthetic rubber can be used. Only soluble components including ultra-high molecular weight components in solution can be taken out, and analysis of natural rubber and / or diene-based synthetic rubber in a state including ultra-high molecular weight components, which could not be analyzed in the past, can be performed. It has become possible.
- natural rubber is rubber having a main skeleton of polyisoprene obtained from sap produced from plant species such as para rubber tree.
- the diene synthetic rubber is a synthetic rubber containing a main polymer skeleton obtained by polymerizing a monomer composed of a diene hydrocarbon such as butadiene and isoprene.
- IR isoprene rubber
- BR butadiene rubber
- SBR butadiene rubber
- THF tetrahydrofuran
- chloroform chloroform
- toluene cyclohexane
- cyclohexane cyclohexane
- the amount (dissolution amount) of the natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber added to the organic solvent is, for example, 0.001 to 1% by mass as the concentration of the natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber in the solution. can do. If this amount is too large, the natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber will not dissolve sufficiently, while if it is too small, it will not be detected by a RI (differential refractive index) detector used as a concentration detector.
- RI differential refractive index
- natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber is put into an organic solvent, and then left for 12 hours or more to completely dissolve the natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber.
- an antioxidant such as BHT (dibutylhydroxytoluene) may be added in order to suppress deterioration of the natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber.
- the dissolved natural rubber and / or diene-based synthetic rubber solution is centrifuged at 10,000 G to 1 million G, preferably 30,000 to 500,000 G, more preferably 100,000. Centrifuge at ⁇ 200,000 G, for example, 10 minutes to 300 minutes. Thereby, the soluble component and insoluble component in a solution are separable. If the centrifugal acceleration is less than 10,000 G, separation is insufficient. On the other hand, since it is considered that the durability of the container is insufficient for centrifugal acceleration exceeding 1 million G, it is not realistic to use centrifugal acceleration exceeding 1 million G.
- the above-mentioned centrifugal separation container is preferably a metal container having a solvent resistance to THF, and a stainless steel container is preferably used in terms of durability.
- the centrifugation is preferably performed by using an ultracentrifuge capable of rotating the sample container at an ultrahigh speed while the centrifugal site is in a vacuum state.
- a soluble component containing an ultrahigh molecular weight component is obtained by collecting a supernatant.
- the analysis of this soluble component is performed by the FFF apparatus which is a separator by molecular weight, and the MALS detector or LALLS (Low angle laser light scattering), RALLS (Right angle laser light scattering) which is a molecular weight and branching detector.
- a single angle light scattering detector such as the above and a viscosity detector can be used.
- FFF is a technology capable of fractionating the components in a solution based on the difference in diffusion rate, and does not require filter filtration as a pretreatment for a solution to be analyzed, as in conventional GPC.
- the components in the solution are eluted sequentially from low molecular weight molecules having a high diffusion rate. Therefore, by using an FFF device in place of the conventional GPC, it became possible to analyze soluble components in a range including ultrahigh molecular weight components that were conventionally excluded without performing filter filtration.
- the FFF device it is particularly preferable to use an asymmetric flow FFF device.
- the molecular weight distribution of the soluble component is obtained by a Debye plot by measuring each molecular weight component separated by FFF using a MALS detector (see FIG. 7).
- M w molecular weight K * is the optical parameter
- c is the concentration
- R (theta) is the Rayleigh ratio of the excess scattering
- r g represents the rotation radius.
- the concentration of the soluble component is usually measured using a differential refractive index (RI) detector.
- RI differential refractive index
- the weight average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution can be calculated by this process.
- the rotation radius (r g ) is obtained from the slope of the Debye plot, and the branch index g of each molecular weight component can be calculated.
- the branch index is 1 if the molecular structure of the sample is a linear polymer, and becomes smaller than 1 as the degree of branching increases.
- ⁇ Rg branch > 2 is the mean square of the rotation radius of the sample
- ⁇ Rg Linear > 2 is the mean square of the rotation radius of the linear standard reference material.
- the branch index g when the branch point is tetrafunctional is as follows.
- the molecular weight distribution and the weight average molecular weight can be obtained by measuring each molecular weight component separated by the FFF using both a single angle light scattering device such as a RALLS device and a LALLS device and a viscosity detector. Is possible. In this case, since the intrinsic viscosity is obtained by the viscosity detector, the branch index g is obtained from the intrinsic viscosity by the following formula.
- g b [ ⁇ ] branch / [ ⁇ ] Linear
- [ ⁇ ] branch is the intrinsic viscosity of the sample
- [ ⁇ ] Linear is the intrinsic viscosity of the linear standard reference material
- Specific calculation methods for this branching index include (I) a method using actual linear standard reference material data, and (II) a sample conformation plot (Log-Log plot of rotation radius and molecular weight).
- the branch index is a structural factor that cannot be obtained by analysis by GPC-MALS in natural rubber and diene-based synthetic rubber containing many branches.
- the precipitated insoluble component corresponding to the crosslinked gel is dried and weighed, so that the natural rubber and / or The gel fraction of the diene synthetic rubber can be evaluated.
- the rubber analysis method of the present invention structural factors such as molecular weight distribution, branching, and gel fraction of natural rubber and / or diene-based synthetic rubber can be evaluated within a range including ultrahigh molecular weight components that could not be analyzed conventionally. Therefore, it is possible to clarify the relationship between the processing properties and the structure of natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber and contribute to the development and quality control of natural rubber and / or diene synthetic rubber.
- Example 2 A sample of natural rubber (using a natural rubber made with PT Bridgestone Sumata Rubber Este) was prepared, and this sample was added to THF so that the concentration of the natural rubber in the solution was 0.4% by mass. After being left for 24 hours, this solution was ultracentrifuged at a centrifugal acceleration of about 150,000 G for 1 hour using a stainless centrifuge tube to separate soluble and insoluble components in the solution. The weight of the insoluble component was 8.9 mass% with respect to the original natural rubber when the precipitate was dried and weighed.
- the supernatant corresponding to the soluble component in the separated solution was collected, diluted twice with THF, and analyzed by FFF-MALS.
- FFF-MALS As an FFF device, AF2000 manufactured by Postnova was used, as a MALS detector, Dawn Heleos II manufactured by Wyatt, and as a RI detector, PN3140 manufactured by Postnova was used. At this time, the pipe connection of the apparatus was connected in the order of FFF apparatus-MALS detector-RI detector.
- FIG. 1 shows the elution curve (A) of natural rubber obtained by FFF-MALS measurement and the molecular weight (B) at each point of the elution curve. From these, natural rubber as shown in (A) in FIG. A differential molecular weight distribution curve of rubber is obtained. Further, in the FFF-MALS measurement, since the turning radius at each point of the elution curve is obtained, a Log-Log plot (conformation plot) of the turning radius and the molecular weight as shown in FIG. 3A is obtained.
- the straight line (B) corresponding to the linear polymer obtained by extrapolating the slope of the conformation plot of the low molecular part of natural rubber to the polymer side
- the degree of branching can be compared. As shown in FIG. 3, the higher the polymer, the lower the value of (A) from the straight line (B). Therefore, the higher the polymer, the greater the degree of branching.
- the branch point number / molecule distribution as shown in FIG. 4 is obtained by formula (b).
- FIG. 5 shows the elution curve (A) of natural rubber obtained by GPC-MALS and the molecular weight (B) at each point of the elution curve.
- the molecular weight is not a straight line but a downwardly convex curve with respect to the dissolved amount. This is because, in the case of natural rubber, an abnormal elution phenomenon occurs in which a linear low molecule and a branched polymer are eluted simultaneously.
- 0.45 ⁇ m filter filtration is performed as a pretreatment, so that no ultra-high molecular weight component dissolved in THF has been measured.
- FIG. Compared with the result of GPC-MALS (FIG. 2A), it is a differential molecular weight distribution curve with no high molecular weight side, which is different from the original molecular weight distribution.
- the log-log plot (A) of natural rubber has many portions on the straight line (B) obtained from a linear standard reference substance. From now on, the number of branch points cannot be calculated.

本発明において、この可溶成分の分析は、分子量別分離機であるFFF装置と、分子量及び分岐検出器であるMALS検出器またはLALLS(Low angle laser light scattering)、RALLS(Right angle laser light scattering)などの単角度の光散乱検出器と、粘度検出器とを接続した装置により行うことができる。
g=<Rgbranch>2/<RgLinear>2・・・・・・・・・・(a)
g=[(1+B/7)1/2+4B/9π]-1/2・・・・・・・・・・(b)
g=[(1+B/6)1/2+4B/3π]-1/2
gb=[η]branch/[η]Linear
