Abstract

The underwater protective cover (1) representing universal protection of the part of the vessel (5) which is underwater and solving the problem of the formation of various deposits and algae, falls within the field of the nautical industry. The underwater protective cover (1) consists of the cover (2) and inflatable part (3) and is designed so as to be adjusted to various types of vessels (5) and the hull of the vessel (5). By using the underwater protective cover (1) and pumping the water between the cover (2) and the vessel (5) the same conditions are created for the vessel (5) as on dry land.

Description

UNDERWATER PROTECTIVE COVER
The subject of the invention is a underwater protective cover which falls within the field of the nautical industry.
In the field of nautics all owners of water crafts are always facing the issue of deposits formed on the part of the vessel which is in water. Due to the continuous formation of deposits, predominantly various algae on the part of the vessel which is under water, all owners have to maintain their vessels in order to increase their lifetime. Apart from the ordinary underwater cleaning of deposits on the hull of the vessel all owners have to lift the vessel from time to time to moor the vessel on dry land and clean and repaint it there. Zinc protectors have to be replaced, which represents a large expense for each owner of the vessel and increased ecological pollution due to the use of ecologically harmful materials.
Deposits being formed on the part of the vessel which is always under water make the vessel considerably slower, which can be seen as especially disturbing in sailing ships, since a clean sailing ship can be up to a couple of knots faster. In motor vessels, the consumption of petroleum or petrol for achieving the speed equal to that of a clean vessel increases with a larger amount of deposits.
This technical problem can be solved with an invention referred to as the underwater protective cover, which prevents the formation of various deposits, predominantly algae, after being fixed on the part of the vessel which is under water, and thus the vessel can always be clean as if it was moored on dry land when not used. By using this invention the vessel does not have to be protected with anti-vegetation paints, which reduces the maintenance costs and environmental pollution considerably.
The zinc protectors on the vessel do not become worn out, since the invention prevents the production of galvanic current and the chemical process of osmosis. The vessel is, additionally, protected against any entry of water through damaged valves or seals on the axis of the propeller.
The applicant is not familiar with any other known solutions for this issue except for the classical maintenance method described.
Hereinafter, the invention is presented with images of the basic form of the underwater protective cover:
Image 1 The basic form of the underwater protective cover
The underwater protective cover 1, which is the subject of the invention, consists of the cover 2 and the inflatable part 3 and represents universal protection for the part of the vessel 5 which is in the water.
Lead weights 4, sinking the underwater protective cover 1 below the lowest point of the vessel 5, are attached to the lower section of the inflatable part 3. The number and position of lead weights 4 is adjusted to the lower section of the inflatable part 3 if necessary, according to the size and shape of the underwater protective cover 1. The underwater protective cover 1 is placed under the vessel 5 by means of ropes 6 fixed securely to the edge of the inflatable part 3. The tube for inflating and sucking out the air 8 is connected to the inflatable part 3 by means of an air compressor placed anywhere in the vessel and an air connection 7, in order to suck the air out of the inflatable part 3 or for inflating it. The air connection 7 corresponds to the standard connection for air compressors. By lifting the inflatable part 3 to the water's surface, the cover 2 is wrapped around the vessel 5. The cover 2 can be fixed to the vessel 5 additionally by tying it with ropes 6 to the rails of the vessel 9.
The shape of the underwater protective cover 1 is adjusted to various types of vessels 5 and to the hull of the vessel 5. Different light and durable materials suitable for this purpose are used in the production of the cover.
An automatic submersible pump for pumping water with a tube for pumping water 11 attached to it is fixed to the lowest point of the cover 10 on the cover 2. All water between the cover 2 and the vessel 5 is pumped out and thus the vessel 5 in the water is in the same condition as if it was on dry land.
Prior to using the ship again the underwater protective cover 1 is removed by untying the ropes 6 used for fixing it to the rails of the vessel 9, sucking out the air from the inflatable part 3, then the underwater protective cover 1 is submerged by means of lead weights 4 and can be removed easily by using the ropes 6.
