Abstract

 植物カートリッジ(10)は、培養液(17)により植物(5)を栽培するものであり、培養液(17)を貯留するための培養液貯留部(12)と、植物(5)を育成する土台となるスポンジ(16)と、培養液貯留部(12)と横並びに配置されスポンジ(16)を配するための植物育成部(11)と、培養液貯留部(12)と植物育成部(11)とを一部を開口してそれぞれに仕切る仕切り壁(13)とを備えている。これにより、小型化することができ、確実に培養液(17)を、栽培している植物に供給することができる植物栽培容器を提供することができる。

Description

植物栽培容器、及び植物栽培システム
 本発明は、植物を水耕栽培により生育を行うための植物栽培容器、及び植物栽培システムに関する。
 従来から、家庭で植物を栽培することが盛んに行なわれている。しかし、土を使った植物の栽培では、例えば、シャベルやスコップ、軍手、ジョウロ等の道具を揃え、使用する必要があり、手間がかかる。また、例えばプランター等の容器に土を入れて植物を栽培すると重量や衛生面で問題が生じ、特に室内での栽培には適さない。
 そこで、近年、培養液を用いた植物栽培方法が開発されている。しかし、このような植物栽培方法では、培養液から養分を得るため、培養液の影響が大きく、培養液の液量をしっかり調整する必要がある。このため、頻繁に培養液の補給を行う必要があり、培養液の調整に手間がかかるという課題が生じる。
 特許文献1には、貯留された培養液の上方に、植物を栽培する培養土が配され、吸水部材又は吸水ひもにより、上記培養液を吸い上げることで、上記培養土に培養液を供給する簡易式溶液栽培容器が開示されている。
 図9は、特許文献1の簡易式溶液栽培容器の構成を表す図である。
 図9に示すように、特許文献1の簡易式溶液栽培容器では、培養液110を貯留する貯留部102を内部に有する容器外殻部103と、容器外殻部103内の上部に、栽培植物111を定植又は播種するための培養土112が収容された栽培ベッド104が着脱自在に配置されている。
 さらに、栽培ベッド104は、下方に突出し、天然樹脂のチップやピートモス等の吸水部材113が収容されている突起部104iを有している。培養土112は、吸水部材113を覆って配置されている。突起部104iは、容器外殻部103内に培養液110が最上位まで貯留されると、突起部104iの根本付近まで浸漬されるようになっている。
 これにより、培養液110を、突起部104iの吸水部材113を介して、培養土112に供給することができる。
 また、栽培ベッド104には、吸水ひも105が挿通されて設けられている。この吸水ひも105により、培養液110が、浸透圧の作用により、栽培ベッド104に収容された培養土112に供給される。これにより、培養液110の水位が低い場合にも、培養液110を培養土112に供給することができる。
 さらに、栽培ベッド104の底面から流下した水は、貯留部102に落下することなく、栽培ベッド104を支持する桶状部103cに流入するようになっている。これにより、貯留部102に貯留した培養液110に、栽培ベッド104から流下する水が流入することを防止している。

 しかしながら、特許文献1の簡易式溶液栽培容器では、下方に配置された培養液110を、突起部104iに収容された吸水部材113、又は、吸水ひも105によって吸水することで、汲み上げて、培養土112に供給する構成なので、培養土112に充分に培養液110を行き渡らせることができない。
 さらに、植物を栽培する培養土112と、培養液110以外に、培養液110を培養土112に供給するための吸水部材113、及び、吸水ひも105からなる培養液供給手段を設ける必要があるので、簡易式溶液栽培容器が大型化するという課題が生じる。
 本発明は、上記の問題点を解決するためになされたもので、その目的は、小型化することができ、確実に培養液を、栽培している植物に供給することができる植物栽培容器、及びそれを備えた植物栽培システムを提供することである。
 上記の課題を解決するために、本発明の植物栽培容器は、培養液により植物を栽培するための植物栽培容器であって、培養液を貯留するための培養液貯留部と、上記植物を育成する土台となる多孔質部材と、上記培養液貯留部と横並びに配置され、上記多孔質部材を配するための植物育成部と、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る仕切り壁とを備えていることを特徴とする。
 上記構成によると、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る仕切り壁が設けられている。そして、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とは、横並びに配置されている。このため、上記培養液貯留部に貯留された培養液は、水圧により、上記開口を通って、上記植物育成部に配された多孔質部材に供給される。これにより、上記培養液が、上記多孔質部材に吸収される。
 さらに、上記植物育成部には、上記植物を育成する土台として、多孔質部材が配される。これにより、上記多孔質部材は、毛細管力により、吸収した培養液を保持することができると共に、当該多孔質部材内に拡散させることができる。
 ここで、毛細管力(毛管力)とは、毛細管現象によって発生する力のことである。上記多孔質部材には、多数の微小な孔が形成されている。この多数の孔によって、上記多孔質部材に吸収された培養液に毛細管力が働くことになる。なお、毛細管の管径が小さいほど、すなわち、上記多孔質部材の孔の大きさ(孔径)が小さいほど、毛細管力は大きくなる。
 このため、上記多孔質部材を土台として栽培される植物に、必要な培養液の養分を供給することができる。
 また、上記構成によると、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とは、横並びに配置され、上記開口を通って、上記培養液貯留部に貯留された培養液は、上記植物育成部に導かれる。このため、例えば、上記培養液を、上記多孔質部材に供給するための供給手段等を設ける必要は無く、植物栽培容器を小型化することができる。また、充分に、上記培養液を、上記多孔質部材に行き渡らせることができる。
 このように、上記構成によると、小型化することができ、確実に培養液を、栽培している植物に供給することができる。
 本発明は、培養液により植物を栽培するための植物栽培容器であり、培養液を貯留するための培養液貯留部と、上記植物を育成する土台となる多孔質部材と、上記培養液貯留部と横並びに配置され、上記多孔質部材を配するための植物育成部と、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る仕切り壁とを備えている。
 これにより、小型化することができ、確実に培養液を、栽培している植物に供給することができるという効果を奏する。

 〔実施の形態1〕
 以下、本発明の第1の実施形態について説明する。
 (植物栽培システムの構成)
 まず、図2の(a)(b)を用い、本発明の植物栽培システムの構成について説明する。
 図2の(a)は、本発明の植物栽培システムの構成を表す斜視図であり、(b)は本発明の植物栽培システムの構成を表す側面図である。
 植物栽培システム1は、土を用いず、水耕栽培によって植物を栽培するものであり、特に、家庭で植物を栽培するためのものである。
 図2の(a)(b)に示すように、植物栽培システム1は、家庭用栽培機(外部装置)2と、家庭用栽培機2に着脱可能な植物カートリッジ(植物栽培容器)10とを備えている。
 家庭用栽培機2は、植物カートリッジ10と接続可能に設けられており、当該接続された植物カートリッジ10から培養液を供給されるための、又は上記接続された植物カートリッジ10に培養液を補給するためのものである。
 植物カートリッジ10は、植物5栽培用の培養液を内部に入れることができ、簡易的な栽培容器の役割を果たすものである。植物カートリッジ10は、家庭用栽培機2と接続せず、単体でも一定期間は植物5を枯死させず栽培することができるように構成されている。なお、植物カートリッジ10の詳細な構成は後述する。
 家庭用栽培機2の表面には、植物カートリッジ10を接続するための複数の接続部3が配されている。接続部3に、植物カートリッジ10を嵌め込んで、家庭用栽培機2の表面に植物カートリッジ10を載置することで、家庭用栽培機2と、植物カートリッジ10とを接続することができる。
 接続部3は、チューブ形状や、Oリングを用いることによって、後述する植物カートリッジ10の底板に設けられた開口と嵌合するように形成されている。これにより、家庭用栽培機2と、植物カートリッジ10との間で、培養液のやり取りを、液漏れを起こすこと無く行うことができる。
 接続部3を構成するチューブや、Oリングとしては、例えば、一般ゴムやシリコーンゴム等を用いることができる。
 このように、植物カートリッジ10を家庭用栽培機2と接続することで、家庭用栽培機2から植物カートリッジ10に、培養液を補給することができる。これにより、植物カートリッジ10の培養液の液量の管理を容易に行なうことができる。
 又は、植物カートリッジ10を家庭用栽培機2と接続することで、植物カートリッジ10から家庭用栽培機2に、培養液を供給することができる。これにより、家庭用栽培機2を介して、家庭用栽培機2に接続された他の植物カートリッジ10に培養液を供給したりすることができる。これにより、家庭用栽培機2に複数の植物カートリッジ10を接続することで、複数の植物5を栽培することができるので、効率よく植物5を栽培することができる。
 また、植物栽培システム1では、複数の植物カートリッジ10を備え、家庭用栽培機2に複数の植物カートリッジ10が接続される。そして、複数の植物カートリッジ10のそれぞれで植物5を栽培することができる。このため、複数の植物カートリッジ10により、複数の植物5を栽培することができる。
 また、複数の植物カートリッジ10のそれぞれは家庭用栽培機2から取り外しが可能であるので、栽培が終わった植物5など、栽培が不要となった植物5を栽培していた植物カートリッジ10を、家庭用栽培機2から取り外すことができる。このように、植物栽培システム1によると、複数の植物5を効率よく栽培することができる。
 (家庭用栽培機の構成)
 次に、図3を用いて、家庭用栽培機2の構成について説明する。
 図3は、家庭用栽培機2の構成を表す斜視図である。
 家庭用栽培機2は、接続部3と、制御回路31と、培養液タンク32と、給水ポンプ33と、チューブ34と、供給部35と、表示画面36と、攪拌機37とを備えている。
 制御回路31と、培養液タンク32と、給水ポンプ33と、チューブ34とは、家庭用栽培機2の内部に設けられている。接続部3と、供給部35とは、一部が、家庭用栽培機2の表面から突出して設けられている。表示画面36は、家庭用栽培機2の側面に設けられている。
 制御回路31は、給水ポンプ33や、その他の家庭用栽培機2が備える各回路を制御するためのものであり、家庭用栽培機2が備える各回路の動作を制御するものである。
 培養液タンク32には、その内部に培養液17を貯留するためのものである。培養液タンク32と、給水ポンプ33とは、複数のチューブ34によって接続されている。
 また、培養液タンク32内には、攪拌機37が配されている。この攪拌機37によって、培養液タンク32に貯留されている培養液17が攪拌されている。これにより、培養液タンク32に貯留されている培養液17に、多くの空気を溶かすことができ、栽培する植物5の根が培養液17によって窒息することを防止することができる。このため、栽培する植物5の根の成長を促進することができる。
 さらに、図示しないエアポンプ又は液体の流れを利用したディフューザ等を、培養液タンク32内に設けており、これら、エアポンプ又はディフューザによって、培養液タンク32に貯留されている培養液17への空気の供給量を増やすようにしてもよい。これにより、培養液17に、さらに多くの空気を溶かすことができる。
 供給口35は、培養液タンク32に空気を供給するための供給口である。供給口35の基部は培養液32と接続されており、先端部は、家庭用栽培機2の表面から突出するように設けられている。この供給口35から、直接、培養液タンク32に培養液17を供給してもよい。
 給水ポンプ33は、接続部3に接続された植物カートリッジ10から培養液17を培養液タンク32に供給するための、又は接続部3に接続された植物カートリッジ10に培養液17を培養液タンク32から補給するためのポンプである。
 給水ポンプ33は、培養液タンク32と、複数のチューブ34で接続されていると共に、家庭用栽培機2に設けられている複数の接続部3のそれぞれとも、チューブ34で接続されている。
 表示画面36は、家庭用栽培機2を使用して作業を行なう作業者に対して、各種の情報を表示するためのものである。例えば、表示画面36には、家庭用栽培機2が備える各種センサによって測定した数値を表示したりする。
 このように、植物栽培システム1の家庭用栽培機2は、培養液17を貯留するための培養液タンク32と、接続部3に接続された植物カートリッジ10から培養液17を培養液タンク32に供給するための、又は接続部3に接続された植物カートリッジ10に培養液17を培養液タンク32から補給するための給水ポンプ33とを備えている。
 これにより、給水ポンプ33によって、接続部3に接続された植物カートリッジ10から培養液17を培養液タンク32に供給する、又は、接続部3に接続された植物カートリッジ10に培養液17を培養液タンク32から補給することができる。このため、家庭用栽培機2に接続された複数の植物カートリッジ10の培養液17の液量を、家庭用栽培機2により、一括して管理することができるので、植物カートリッジ10の培養液17の液量の管理の手間を低減することができる。
 (植物カートリッジの構成)
 次に、図1の(a)(b)(c)、図4の(a)(b)を用いて、植物5を栽培する植物カートリッジ10の構成について説明する。図1の(a)は、植物カートリッジ10の構成を表す斜視図であり、(b)は(a)のAの矢視図であり、(c)は(b)のB‐B線矢視断面図である。
 図4の(a)は、植物カートリッジ10で、植物5を栽培している様子を説明する図であり、(b)は、家庭用栽培機2の接続部3に接続されている植物カートリッジ10の断面図である。
 植物カートリッジ10は、上述したように、培養液17により植物5を栽培するものである。
 植物カートリッジ10は、2つの領域(エリア)に区切られており、培養液17を貯留するための培養液貯留部12と、培養液貯留部12と横並びに配置され、多孔質材料からなるスポンジ(多孔質部材)16を配するための植物育成部11とを備えている。
 植物カートリッジ10は、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とをそれぞれを塞ぐ天板15を備えていることで、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とに存在する培養液17の乾燥を防止している。
 天板15は、培養液貯留部12上と、植物育成部11上とのそれぞれに開口を有する。すなわち、天板15は、培養液貯留部12上に開口15bを有し、植物育成部11上に開口15aを有する。植物育成部11上に、天板15は、開口15aを有するので、植物育成部11に配されたスポンジ16で育成する植物5を播種し、植物5を育成することができる。また、開口15aは、植物5の通風孔も兼ねることができる。
 天板15は、スポンジ16の上面と離間して配されている。すなわち、天板15と、スポンジ16との間に空間が設けられている。このため、例えば、作業者が植物カートリッジ10を取り扱っている際に、スポンジ16の上面を圧縮し、また、植物カートリッジ10を傾けたり、逆さまにしたりしたとしても、スポンジ16が吸収している培養液17の液漏れを抑制することができる。
 また、開口15aの近傍では、天板15は、テーパー形状となるように折れ曲っている。これにより、小さい種を扱う場合でも、スポンジ16に、植物を播種し易くしている。
 また、培養液貯留部12上に、天板15は、開口15bを有するので、開口15bから、培養液貯留部12に培養液17を供給することができる。このため、培養液17の追加を簡単に行うことができる。この開口15bには、通常は、培養液キャップ19により蓋がされている。そして、培養液貯留部12に培養液17を供給する際に、培養液キャップ19が、開口15bから外される。
 仕切り壁13は、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切るものである。仕切り壁13は、植物カートリッジ10の底板14から離間して配されることで、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る。このように、仕切り壁13と、底板14とが離間している部分が開口13aである。
 スポンジ16は、植物5が播種され、育成される側の面である上面と、植物育成部11の底板14と接する側の面である下面とを有する。
 スポンジ16は、吸収した培養液17を保持することができる多孔質材料からなり、植物5を育成する土台となるものである。スポンジ16は、植物育成部11に充填して配されている。スポンジ16の側面により、開口13aは覆われている。
 また、植物育成部11と、培養液貯留部12とに共通する植物カートリッジ10の底板14のうち、植物育成部11の底板14には、家庭用栽培機2に培養液17を供給する、又は家庭用栽培機2から培養液17を補給するために、家庭用栽培機2と接続するための開口14aが形成されている。
 培養液貯留部12の側面には、培養液貯留部12に充填されている培養液17の水位を確認するための窓18が設けられている。これにより、培養液貯留部12に充填されている培養液17の液量の管理が容易となる。
 このように、植物カートリッジ10によると、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る仕切り壁13が設けられている。具体的には、仕切り壁13は、植物カートリッジ10の底板14から離間して配されることで、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る。このように、仕切り壁13が設けられていることで、開口13aが構成されている。
 そして、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とは、横並びに配置されている。このため、培養液貯留部12に貯留された培養液17は、水圧により、開口13aを通って、植物育成部11に配されたスポンジ16に供給される。これにより、培養液17が、スポンジ16に吸収され、漏れなく保持される。
 さらに、植物育成部11には、植物5を育成する土台として、多孔質材料からなるスポンジ16が配されている。これにより、スポンジ16は、毛細管力により、吸収した培養液17を保持することができると共に、スポンジ16内に拡散させることができる。
 このため、スポンジ16を土台として栽培される植物5に、必要な培養液17の養分を供給することができる。
 このように、植物カートリッジ10によると、スポンジ16に植物5を播種することで、播種した植物5を育成することができるので、植物5を育成するために、土を用いる必要はない。このため、土を用いて植物を栽培する場合と比べて、衛生的で、手軽に植物を栽培することができ、また、植物カートリッジ10を軽量化することができる。
 また、上記構成によると、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とは、横並びに配置され、開口13aを通って、培養液貯留部12に貯留された培養液17は、植物育成部11に導かれる。
 このため、植物カートリッジ10では、図7の吸水部材113及び吸水ひも105のような、培養液17を、植物5を育成する土台となるスポンジ16に供給するための供給手段等を設ける必要は無く、植物カートリッジ10を小型化することができる。また、充分に、培養液17を、スポンジ16に行き渡らせることができる。
 このように、植物カートリッジ10によると、衛生的で、小型化及び軽量化することができ、確実に培養液17を、栽培している植物5に供給することができ、手軽に植物5を栽培することができる。
 また、植物カートリッジ10では、植物育成部11に配されている多孔質部材が、スポンジ16からなるので、毛細管力により、植物育成部11に供給された培養液17を保持することができると共に、スポンジ16は比較的軟らかい材料なので、スポンジ16の内部で、植物5の根を、阻害することなく成長させることができる。
 本実施の形態では、植物5を育成するために植物育成部11に配する多孔質部材としてスポンジ16を用いるものとして説明した。スポンジ16として、例えば、ポリウレタン、ポリエチレン、シリコンゴムなどの材質からなる発泡材を用いることができる。
 また、上記多孔質部材は、多孔質材料から構成されていればよく、上記発泡材以外にも、例えば、ロックウールなどの繊維から構成されるブロックや不織布であってもよい。さらに、上記多孔質部材は、粒状のセラミックスを詰めた焼結体などを用いてもよい。このように、多孔質部材を用いることで、毛細管力により、植物育成部11に供給された培養液17を保持することができる。
 なお、仕切り壁13は、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る構成であればよい。例えば、仕切り壁13は、底板14と、天板15との両方に接して配され、その仕切り壁13に、開口13aが形成されていてもよい。
 また、図1の(c)、図4の(b)に示すように、培養液貯留部12の仕切り壁13と対向する内壁の側面12a・12bのうち、上部の側面12aは、天板15と直角に接続されており、下方向(鉛直下方)に延びる。すなわち、上部の側面12aは、仕切り壁13と略平行となっている。そして、仕切り壁13の、開口13aと対向する近傍の内壁の側面である下部の側面12bは、底板14に近づくにつれ、開口13aに近づく方向に傾斜する傾斜面となっている。そして、培養液貯留部12の内壁の側面12a・12bは、傾斜面である側面12bによって、底板14と接続されている。
 すなわち、培養液貯留部12の仕切り壁13と対向する側面12a・12bは、仕切り壁13の開口13aより上方の側面12aは、仕切り壁13と平行に配されており、仕切り壁13の開口13aと対向する近傍の領域である側面12bは、上方から下方にかけて開口部13aと近づくような傾斜面となっている。
 このように、培養液貯留部12の内壁の側面12a・12bのうち、開口13aと対向する近傍である側面12bは、開口13aに近づく方向に傾斜する傾斜面となっているので、培養液貯留部12に貯留された培養液17を、開口13aを通って、効率よく植物育成部11に導くことができる。
 植物カートリッジ10の底板14には、家庭用栽培機2に培養液17を供給する又は家庭用栽培機2から培養液17を補給するために、家庭用栽培機2と接続するための開口14aが形成されている。
 これにより、底板14に形成された開口14aにより、図4の(b)に示すように、家庭用栽培機2と接続することができる。これにより、家庭用栽培機2から培養液17を補給したり、家庭用栽培機2を介して、家庭用栽培機2に接続された他の植物カートリッジ10に培養液17を供給したりすることができる。
 このため、容易に、培養液17の液量を管理することができる。さらに、家庭用栽培機2に複数の植物カートリッジ10を接続することで、複数の植物5を栽培することができるので、効率よく植物5を栽培することができる。
 また、植物カートリッジ10は、家庭用栽培機2の表面から突出して形成されている接続部3を、底板14の開口14aに嵌め込むことで、家庭用栽培機2と接続される。このため、植物カートリッジ10と、家庭用栽培機2とが接続されているとき、スポンジ16は、接続部3の高さによって、下から押されて、圧縮されている状態となる。スポンジ16のうち、接続部3と接触している近傍が、特に圧縮された状態となる。
 このように、スポンジ16は、接続部3によって押されて圧縮されると、スポンジ16を構成する材質の単位体積あたりの密度が向上する。すなわち、スポンジ16に形成されている多数の孔径が小さくなるので、スポンジ16の毛細管力が向上することになる。特に、スポンジ16のうち、接続部16と接触している近傍の毛細管力が向上し、植物カートリッジ10内の培養液17を、接続部3に集めることができる。
 このため、植物カートリッジ10と、家庭用栽培機2との間での培養液17のやり取りを、速やかに行なうことができる。
 また、上述したように、スポンジ16は、毛細管力を有するので、植物カートリッジ10を、家庭用栽培機2の接続部3と接続する際に、培養液17が液漏れしないように、ある程度保持することができ、また、液漏れしたとしても流出速度を遅くすることができる。
 さらに、図4の(b)に示すように、開口部14aに、蓋38を設けてもよい。蓋38は、簡単な弁の構造となっており、接続部3によって押し上げることで、植物カートリッジ10と、家庭用栽培機2とを接続する。これにより、植物カートリッジ10を、接続部3と接続する際の液漏れを防止することができる。
 また、植物カートリッジ10は、家庭用栽培機2と接続されず、単体で使用されている場合は、開口14aに設けられた蓋38によって開口14aは閉じられ、スポンジ16が保持している培養液17が、外部に流出したり、蒸発したりすることを防止することができる。
 (スポンジへの培養液の供給)
 次に、図5の(a)(b)を用いて、培養液17が、スポンジ16に供給される様子について説明する。
 図5の(a)は、スポンジ16内の培養液17の水位が高い場合を説明する図であり、(b)はスポンジ16内の培養液17の水位が低い場合を説明する図である。
 上述したように、仕切り壁13は、植物カートリッジ10の底板14から離間して配されることで、培養液貯留部12と、植物育成部11とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る。
 すなわち、開口13aは、仕切り壁13が、植物カートリッジ10の底板14から離間して配されることで構成されている。
 このため、図5の(a)に示すように、スポンジ16が保持する培養液17の水位、すなわちスポンジ16内水位が、開口13aより高い場合、開口13aは培養液17により密閉された状態となり、培養液貯留部12からスポンジ16に培養液17は供給されない。
 一方、図5の(b)に示すように、植物5による吸収及び蒸発等により、スポンジ16が保持する培養液17の水位が下がり、スポンジ16内水位が仕切り壁13より下となり、開口13aが露出すると、スポンジ16から開口13aを通って、空気21が培養液貯留部12に供給される。そして、空気21と同量の培養液17がスポンジ16に供給される。これにより、スポンジ16内水位が再び上昇する。
 このように、植物カートリッジ10によると、容易に、植物育成部11に配されたスポンジ16を、湿潤状態に保つことができる。また、培養液貯留部12の培養液17の水位を管理することで、スポンジ16で育成している植物5に必要な培養液17の液量を管理することができる。
 このため、植物カートリッジ10によると、培養液貯留部12の培養液17の水位を管理することで、植物5の水遣りを管理することができる。
 〔実施の形態2〕
 次に、図6~8を用いて、第2の実施形態に係る植物カートリッジについて説明する。なお、説明の便宜上、実施の形態1にて説明した図面と同じ機能を有する部材については、同じ符号を付記し、その説明を省略する。
 図6は、第2の実施形態に係る植物カートリッジ20の構成を表す断面図である。
 本実施の形態に係る植物カートリッジ20は、スポンジ16に替えて、スポンジ26を備えている点で、植物カートリッジ10と相違する。
 スポンジ26は、スポンジ16と同様に、植物育成部11に配されている。
 スポンジ26は、植物5が育成される側の面である上面から、植物育成部11の底板14と接する側の面である下面にかけて、密度に勾配を有するように形成されている。
 ここで、密度とは、スポンジ26等の多孔質部材の単位体積あたりの重量のことである。
 一般的に、多孔質部材の密度が大きくなると多孔質部材の孔径は小さくなる。そして多孔質部材の孔径が小さくなると、毛細管力は大きくなる。なお、多孔質部材がスポンジ26等、発泡材からなる場合、当該発泡材を製造するときの体積比(倍率)のことを発泡率と称する場合がある。発泡率が高いほど、密度は低く、孔が占める体積が大きい。
 ここで、スポンジ26に吸収された培養液17は、スポンジ26のうち、毛細管力の強度が小さいところから、毛細管力の強度が大きいところへ引き込まれることになる。これにより、スポンジ26のうち、毛細管力の強度が高いところ近傍の含水率を、毛細管力の強度が低いところ近傍の含水率と比べて、高くすることができる。
 ここで、含水率とは、上記多孔質部材の単位体積あたりに水分(すなわち培養液17)が占める割合のことである。すなわち、毛細管力の強度が大きいと、含水率も高くなる。
 含水率が高いと、スポンジ26で育成している植物5の根に、多くの培養液17を供給することができる。しかし、スポンジ26が全体的に含水率が高くなると、スポンジ26で育成している植物5の根は、酸素不足で窒息することになる。
 このため、スポンジ26、あるいは培養液17中に、適度に酸素が存在している必要がある。その上で、例えば、スポンジ26で育成している植物5の根の先に近いところなど、植物5の育成に必要なところのスポンジ26が、培養液17によって湿っていることが好適な栽培条件となる。
 例えば、一般的に、植物は、茎に近い部分は水に弱く、根の先のほうは水に強いという特性を有する場合が多い。
 このような植物5を育成する場合は、上面から下面にかけて毛細管力が大きくなるように、上面と下面との間で、密度に勾配を有するようにスポンジ26を形成することで、植物5の根の生え際に充分に酸素を供給することができる。
 また、スポンジ26内水位は、培養液17の水位にもよるが、徐々に下がっていくため、スポンジ26の上面は乾燥してくる。
 それに加え、スポンジ26のうち、上記上面から上記下面にかけて、スポンジ26の密度を高くすることで、上記上面から上記下面にかけて、毛細管力を高くする。これにより、スポンジ26のうち、上記上面近傍は、培養液17の含水率を低くし、下面にかけて、培養液17の含水率を高くすることができる。
 これにより、植物5の茎の部分の培養液17の液量を少なくし、植物5の根の先の部分の培養液17の液量を多くすることができる。
 このため、植物5の茎に近い部分は水に弱く、植物5の根の先は水に強いという特性を活かす事ができ、植物5を健康に、効率よく栽培することができる。
 一方、植物5の種類によっては、水に強い種類も存在する。このような植物5を育成する場合は、スポンジ26の下面、又は中層から、上面にかけて、毛細管力が強くなるように、上面と下面との間で、密度に勾配を有するようにスポンジ26を形成することで、多くの培養液17を、植物5の根に供給することができる。このため、植物5の育成を促進することができる。
 スポンジ26のように、上面から下面にかけて、密度に勾配を有していることで、毛細管力の強度が勾配を有するようになる。これにより、スポンジ26で育成する植物5に応じて、スポンジ26内の含水率を調整することができる。このため、スポンジ26で育成する植物5を酸素不足にさせることなく、植物5に有効に培養液17を供給することができる。このため、健康に、かつ効率よく植物5を育成することができる。
 このような、上面から下面にかけて密度に勾配を有する多孔質部材は、単一の材質の密度に勾配を有するように構成してもよいし、後述するように、密度が異なる複数の材質を張り合わせることで構成してもよい。なお、親水性が強いほうが、毛細管力は大きくなる。
 次に、図7、図8を用いて、密度が異なる複数の材質からなる多孔質部材の構成について説明する。
 図7は、上層の密度が低く、下層の密度が高い材質からなる多孔質部材を備える植物カートリッジの構成を表す図である。
 図7では、植物カートリッジ20は、密度が異なる複数の材質からなる多孔質部材27を、植物育成部11内に備えている。
 多孔質部材27は、上層に配された、密度が相対的に小さい材質からなる多孔質部材(第1の多孔質部材)27aと、下層に配された、密度が相対的に大きい材質からなる多孔質部材(第2の多孔質部材)27bとからなる。多孔質部材27aと、多孔質部材27bとは貼りあわされている。
 多孔質部材27aとしては、例えば、密度が15~45kg/m程度のウレタンスポンジを用いることができる。また、多孔質部材27bとしては、例えば、密度が50~100kg/m程度のロックウールを用いることができる。
 多孔質部材27bの高さは、開口14aの高さ、すなわち、底板14から仕切り壁13までの距離と同程度とし、多孔質部材27aは、植物5の根を覆う程度の高さとしている。
 このように、多孔質部材27を構成することで、多孔質部材27には、下向き(上面から下面にかけて)に毛細管力が働く。これにより、多孔質部材27に吸収された培養液17は、速やかに下方へ移動することになり、水はけがよい土と同様の効果を得ることができる。
 このため、植物5の根近傍では比較的乾燥し、植物5の根に充分な酸素を供給することができる。これにより、比較的水に弱い植物5であっても、充分に酸素及び培養液を供給することができる。
 一方、上述したように、植物5の種類によっては、水を好む植物も存在する。すなわち、多くの培養液17を根に供給しても、酸素不足になり難い植物も存在する。このような酸素不足になり難い植物5の根には、多くの培養液17が供給される構成にすることが好ましい。
 図8は、中層の密度が低く、上層及び下層の密度が高い多孔質部材を備える植物カートリッジの構成を表す図である。
 図8では、植物カートリッジ20は、植物育成部11内に、多孔質部材28が配されている。
 多孔質部材28は、密度が異なる上層、中層、及び下層の3種類の多孔質部材から構成されている。すなわち、多孔質部材28は、中層に配された、密度が相対的に小さい多孔質部材(第3の多孔質部材)28bと、上層及び下層に配された、密度が相対的に大きい多孔質部材(第4の多孔質部材)28a・28cとからなる。
 多孔質部材28aとしては、例えば、密度が50~100kg/m程度のロックウールを用いることができる。多孔質部材28bとしては、例えば、密度が15~45kg/m程度のウレタンスポンジを用いることができる。また、多孔質部材28cとしては、例えば、密度が75~150kg/m程度のウレタンスポンジを用いることができる。
 このような多孔質部材28の構成によると、中ほどから、上面及び下面にかけて、毛細管力が強くなる。
 多孔質部材28は、中層の多孔質部材28bが、上層の多孔質部材28aおよび下層の多孔質部材28cより密度が小さければよく、多孔質部材28aと、多孔質部材28cとの密度が同じであってもよい。
 多孔質部材28cの高さは、開口14aの高さ、すなわち、底板14から仕切り壁13までの距離より小さくなる程度としている。多孔質部材28aは、植物5の根を覆う程度の高さとしている。
 このように、多孔質部材28を構成することで、多孔質部材28には、中層の多孔質部材28bから、多孔質部材28の上面にかけて、及び、中層の多孔質部材28bから、多孔質部材28の下面にかけて毛細管力が働く。これにより、植物5の根近傍に充分に培養液17を供給することができると共に、中層である多孔質部材28bより下方では、水はけがよくなり、培養液17の家庭用栽培機2への供給サイクルを速くすることができる。
 このように、多孔質部材27・28によると、多孔質部材27・28を構成する材質の密度が異なる複数の多孔質部材から構成することで、多孔質部材27・28で育成する植物5の種類によって、多孔質部材27・28内の含水率を調整することができる。このため、多孔質部材27・28で育成する植物5を酸素不足にさせることなく、植物5に有効に培養液を供給することができる。このため、健康に、かつ効率よく植物5を育成することができる。
 本発明は上述した各実施形態に限定されるものではなく、請求項に示した範囲で種々の変更が可能であり、異なる実施形態にそれぞれ開示された技術的手段を適宜組み合わせて得られる実施形態についても本発明の技術的範囲に含まれる。
 以上のように、本発明の植物栽培容器は、培養液により植物を栽培するための植物栽培容器であって、培養液を貯留するための培養液貯留部と、上記植物を育成する土台となる多孔質部材と、上記培養液貯留部と横並びに配置され、上記多孔質部材を配するための植物育成部と、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る仕切り壁とを備えていることを特徴とする。
 上記構成によると、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る仕切り壁が設けられている。そして、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とは、横並びに配置されている。このため、上記培養液貯留部に貯留された培養液は、水圧により、上記開口を通って、上記植物育成部に配された多孔質部材に供給される。これにより、上記培養液が、上記多孔質部材に吸収される。
 さらに、上記植物育成部には、上記植物を育成する土台として、多孔質部材が配される。これにより、上記多孔質部材は、毛細管力により、吸収した培養液を保持することができると共に、当該多孔質部材内に拡散させることができる。
 ここで、毛細管力(毛管力)とは、毛細管現象によって発生する力のことである。上記多孔質部材には、多数の微小な孔が形成されている。この多数の孔によって、上記多孔質部材に吸収された培養液に毛細管力が働くことになる。なお、毛細管の管径が小さいほど、すなわち、上記多孔質部材の孔の大きさ(孔径)が小さいほど、毛細管力は大きくなる。
 このため、上記多孔質部材を土台として栽培される植物に、必要な培養液の養分を供給することができる。
 また、上記構成によると、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とは、横並びに配置され、上記開口を通って、上記培養液貯留部に貯留された培養液は、上記植物育成部に導かれる。このため、例えば、上記培養液を、上記多孔質部材に供給するための供給手段等を設ける必要は無く、植物栽培容器を小型化することができる。また、充分に、上記培養液を、上記多孔質部材に行き渡らせることができる。
 このように、上記構成によると、小型化することができ、確実に培養液を、栽培している植物に供給することができる。
 また、上記仕切り壁は、上記植物栽培容器の底板から離間して配されることで、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切ることが好ましい。
 上記構成により、上記多孔質材料が保持する培養液の水位が、上記開口より高い場合、当該開口は上記培養液により密閉された状態となり、上記培養液貯留部から多孔質材料に上記培養液は供給されない。
 一方、上記多孔質材料が保持する培養液の水位が下がり上記開口が露出すると、上記多孔質材料から上記開口を通って、空気が上記培養液貯留部に供給される。そして、当該空気と同量の培養液が上記多孔質材料に供給される。これにより、上記多孔質材料の水位が再び上昇する。
 このように、上記構成によると、容易に、上記植物育成部に配された上記多孔質材料を、湿潤状態に保つことができる。また、上記培養液貯留部の培養液の水位を管理することで、上記多孔質材料で育成している植物に必要な培養液の量を管理することができる。
 また、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とをそれぞれを塞ぐ天板を備えていることが好ましい。上記構成により、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とに存在する培養液の乾燥を防止することができる。
 また、上記天板は、上記培養液貯留部上と、上記植物育成部上とのそれぞれに開口を有することが好ましい。上記構成により、上記植物育成部上に、上記天板は、開口を有するので、上記植物育成部に配された上記多孔質材料で育成する植物を播種し、当該植物を育成することができる。また、上記植物の通風孔も兼ねることができる。
 また、上記構成により、上記培養液貯留部上に、上記天板は、開口を有するので、当該開口から、上記培養液貯留部に培養液を供給することができる。このため、培養液の追加を簡単に行なうことができる。
 また、上記植物栽培容器の底板には、外部装置に培養液を供給する又は外部装置から培養液を補給するために、当該外部装置と接続するための開口が形成されていることが好ましい。
 上記構成によると、上記植物栽培容器の底板に形成された上記開口により、上記外部装置と接続することができる。これにより、上記外部装置から培養液を補給したり、上記外部装置を介して、上記外部装置に接続された他の植物栽培容器に培養液を供給したりすることができる。このため、容易に、培養液の液量を管理することができる。
 さらに、上記外部装置に複数の植物栽培容器を接続することで、複数の植物を栽培することができるので、効率よく植物を栽培することができる。
 また、上記多孔質部材は、上記植物が育成される側の面である上面と、上記植物育成部の底板と接する側の面である下面とを備え、上記多孔質部材は、上記上面から上記下面にかけて、密度に勾配を有していることが好ましい。
 ここで、上記多孔質部材の単位体積あたりに水分(すなわち培養液)が占める割合のことを含水率と称する。毛細管力の強度が大きいと、含水率も高くなる。
 上記構成によると、上記多孔質部材は、上記上面から上記下面にかけて、密度(上記多孔質部材の単位体積あたりの重量)に勾配を有しているので、毛細管力の強度が勾配を有するようになる。
 これにより、上記多孔質部材で育成する植物の種類に応じて、上記多孔質部材内の含水率を調整することができる。
 このため、上記多孔質部材で育成する植物を酸素不足にさせることなく、当該植物に有効に培養液を供給することができる。このため、健康に、かつ効率よく植物を育成することができる。
 また、上記多孔質部材は、密度が異なる複数の材質から構成されていることが好ましい。
 上記構成によると、上記多孔質部材で育成する植物の種類によって、当該多孔質部材内の含水率を調整することができる。このため、上記多孔質部材で育成する植物を酸素不足にさせることなく、植物に有効に培養液を供給することができる。このため、健康に、かつ効率よく植物を育成することができる。
 また、上記多孔質部材は、上層に配された、上記密度が相対的に小さい材質からなる第1の多孔質部材と、下層に配された、上記密度が相対的に大きい材質からなる第2の多孔質部材とからなることが好ましい。
 上記構成によると、上記多孔質部材には、下向き(上面から下面にかけて)に毛細管力が働く。これにより、上記多孔質部材に吸収された培養液は、速やかに下方へ移動することになり、水はけがよい土と同様の効果を得ることができる。
 このため、植物の根近傍では比較的乾燥し、植物の根に充分な酸素を供給することができる。これにより、比較的水に弱い植物であっても、充分に酸素及び培養液を供給することができる。
 また、上記多孔質部材は、中層に配された、上記密度が相対的に小さい第3の多孔質部材と、上層及び下層に配された、上記密度が相対的に大きい第4の多孔質部材とからなることが好ましい。
 上記構成により、上記多孔質部材には、上記中層の第3の多孔質部材から、上記上層に配された上記第4の多孔質部材の上面にかけて、及び、上記中層の第3の多孔質部材から、上記下層に配された第4の多孔質部材の下面にかけて、毛細管力が働く。これにより、植物の根近傍に充分に培養液を供給することができると共に、中層である第3の多孔質部材より下方では、水はけをよくすることができる。
 また、上記多孔質部材はスポンジであることが好ましい。上記構成によると、毛細管力により、上記植物育成部に供給された培養液を保持することができる。また、スポンジは比較的軟らかい材料なので、内部で、植物の根を、阻害することなく成長させることができる。
 また、上記培養液貯留部の上記仕切り壁と対向する内壁の側面のうち、上記仕切り壁の開口と対向する側面は、上記底板に近づくにつれ、上記仕切り壁の開口と近づくような傾斜面となっていることが好ましい。
 上記構成によると、上記培養液貯留部に貯留された培養液を、上記仕切り壁の開口を通って、効率よく上記植物育成部に導くことができる。
 本発明の植物栽培システムは、上記植物栽培容器と、上記植物栽培容器と接続可能に設けられており、当該接続された植物栽培容器から培養液を供給されるための、又は上記接続された植物栽培容器に培養液を補給するための外部装置とを備えていることを特徴としている。
 上記構成によると、上記植物栽培容器を上記外部装置と接続することで、上記外部装置から培養液を補給することができる。これにより、培養液の液量の管理を容易に行なうことができる。
 又は、上記植物栽培容器を上記外部装置と接続することで、上記外部装置に培養液を供給することができる。これにより、上記外部装置を介して、上記外部装置に接続された他の植物栽培容器に培養液を供給したりすることができる。
 これにより、上記外部装置に複数の植物栽培容器を接続することで、複数の植物を栽培することができるので、効率よく植物を栽培することができる。
 また、上記外部装置は、上記植物栽培容器を接続するための接続部を複数備えていることが好ましい。
 上記構成により、上記外部装置に、複数の上記植物栽培容器を接続することができる。このため、上記外部装置に接続された複数の上記植物栽培容器により、複数の植物を栽培することができる。
 また、上記複数の植物栽培容器のそれぞれは上記外部装置から取り外しが可能であるので、栽培が終わった植物など、栽培が不要となって植物を栽培していた植物栽培容器を、外部装置から取り外すことができる。このように、上記構成によると、複数の植物を効率よく栽培することができる。
 また、上記外部装置は、培養液を貯留するための培養液タンクと、上記接続部に接続された植物栽培容器から培養液を上記培養液タンクに供給されるための、又は上記接続部に接続された植物栽培容器に培養液を上記培養液タンクから補給するための給水ポンプとを備えている。
 上記構成により、上記給水ポンプによって、上記接続部に接続された植物栽培容器から培養液を上記培養液タンクに供給する、又は、上記接続部に接続された植物栽培容器に培養液を上記培養液タンクから補給することができる。
 これにより、上記外部装置に接続された複数の植物栽培容器の培養液の液量を、上記外部装置により、一括して管理することができるので、植物栽培容器の培養液の液量の管理の手間を低減することができる。
 上記培養液タンク内には、攪拌機が配されていることが好ましい。上記構成によると、上記攪拌機によって、上記培養液タンクに貯留されている培養液を攪拌することができる。
 これにより、培養液タンクに貯留されている培養液に、多くの空気を溶かすことができ、栽培する植物の根が培養液によって窒息することを防止することができる。このため、栽培する植物の根の成長を促進することができる。
 本発明は、水耕栽培によって植物を栽培するための植物栽培容器、及び植物栽培システムに適用することができる。

Claims (15)

  1.  培養液により植物を栽培するための植物栽培容器であって、
     培養液を貯留するための培養液貯留部と、
     上記植物を育成する土台となる多孔質部材と、
     上記培養液貯留部と横並びに配置され、上記多孔質部材を配するための植物育成部と、
     上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切る仕切り壁とを備えていることを特徴とする植物栽培容器。
  2.  上記仕切り壁は、上記植物栽培容器の底板から離間して配されることで、上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とを、一部を開口して、それぞれに仕切ることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の植物栽培容器。
  3.  上記培養液貯留部と、上記植物育成部とのそれぞれを塞ぐ天板を備えていることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の植物栽培容器。
  4.  上記天板は、上記培養液貯留部上と、上記植物育成部上とのそれぞれに開口を有することを特徴とする請求項3に記載の植物栽培容器。
  5.  上記植物栽培容器の底板には、外部装置に培養液を供給する又は外部装置から培養液を補給するために、当該外部装置と接続するための開口が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1~4の何れか1項に記載の植物栽培容器。
  6.  上記多孔質部材は、上記植物が育成される側の面である上面と、
     上記植物育成部の底板と接する側の面である下面とを備え、
     上記多孔質部材は、上記上面から上記下面にかけて、密度に勾配を有していることを特徴とする請求項1~5の何れか1項に記載の植物栽培容器。
  7.  上記多孔質部材は、密度が異なる複数の材質から構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1~5の何れか1項に記載の植物栽培容器。
  8.  上記多孔質部材は、上層に配された、上記密度が相対的に小さい材質からなる第1の多孔質部材と、下層に配された、上記密度が相対的に大きい材質からなる第2の多孔質部材とからなることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の植物栽培容器。
  9.  上記多孔質部材は、中層に配された、上記密度が相対的に小さい第3の多孔質部材と、上層及び下層に配された、上記密度が相対的に大きい第4の多孔質部材とからなることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の植物栽培容器。
  10.  上記多孔質部材はスポンジであることを特徴とする請求項1~5の何れか1項に記載の植物栽培容器。
  11.  上記培養液貯留部の上記仕切り壁と対向する内壁の側面のうち、上記仕切り壁の開口と対向する側面は、上記底板に近づくにつれ、上記仕切り壁の開口と近づくような傾斜面となっていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の植物栽培容器。
  12.  請求項1~11の何れか1項に記載の植物栽培容器と、
     上記植物栽培容器と接続可能に設けられており、当該接続された植物栽培容器から培養液を供給されるための、又は上記接続された植物栽培容器に培養液を補給するための外部装置とを備えていることを特徴とする植物栽培システム。
  13.  上記外部装置は、上記植物栽培容器を接続するための接続部を複数備えていることを特徴とする請求項12に記載の植物栽培システム。
  14.  上記外部装置は、
     培養液を貯留するための培養液タンクと、
     上記接続部に接続された植物栽培容器から培養液を上記培養液タンクに供給するための、又は上記接続部に接続された植物栽培容器に培養液を上記培養液タンクから補給するための給水ポンプとを備えていることを特徴とする請求項13に記載の植物栽培システム。
  15.  上記培養液タンク内には、攪拌機が配されていることを特徴とする請求項14に記載の植物栽培システム。
