Definitions
- Device for stacking flat objects on edge and postal sorting machine equipped with at least one such device
- the invention relates to a device for stacking flat objects on edge, and a postal sorting machine equipped with at least one such stacking device.
- a flat object designates in particular, but not exclusively, a postal item.
- the postal items capable of being stacked thanks to the device of the invention, may have variable dimensions, but also variable mechanical characteristics, particularly as regards their rigidity.
- This mailing can be, among other things, a simple letter, a magazine, an envelope with or without window, a newspaper, or a catalog presented in a plastic envelope or paper, with or without bellows.
- a stacking device can be used in particular in postal sorting facilities, for example to form a buffer receptacle of mail items at each sorting outlet of the installation.
- a sorting machine conventionally comprises a feed inlet with a magazine, as well as a destacker for the serial production on the edge of postal items. The latter are then usually conveyed to an acquisition system, then directed to sorting outlets aligned next to each other.
- a stacking device such as that targeted by the invention, equips each of these sorting outlets.
- this stacking device defines an area of variable size, allowing the reception of the stack of objects accumulating in a longitudinal direction.
- This zone is bordered transversely by a bank, called jogging, against which can stand the objects of the stack.
- jogging a bank
- the front end of this stack bears against a pallet, movable longitudinally under the effect of the accumulation of objects. This pallet exerts a return force on the latter, allowing the objects to be held in their singing position.
- the objects are supported, by their song, on a support range, along which they slide as and when they accumulate.
- a rotary actuator is set in motion upon the arrival of each object towards the receiving area. This actuator thus creates, periodically, a longitudinal thrust force, either directly on the pallet when the first objects arrive, or on the stack being formed.
- US Pat. No. 4,643,626 discloses a card-type flat-stacking device which comprises two motorized toothed belts.
- the latter which are movable according to the stacking direction, ensure a controlled progression of the pallet, as and when new cards arrive. These are locked between two successive notches of the belt, while sliding along fixed support areas, which are made in the form of strips and which extend along the path of the belts.
- the pallet is coupled to a guide bar with respect to which it can slide and rotate. The position of the field of the pallet between two teeth of one of the toothed belts makes it possible to synchronize the movement of the pallet with that of the toothed belts, the toothed belts being moreover
- a device for stacking flat documents on their edge with a support, inclined relative to the horizontal, on which the documents are stacked also comprises a toothed belt serving as a support range for the documents as they are stacked.
- a retaining element is coupled to this toothed belt, endless, via a clutch wheel, itself coupled to a spring thus urging the retention element towards the arrival of documents.
- the toothed belt is driven by a wheel mechanically linked to a ratchet wheel having pawls coupled to a counting circuit stacked documents. Whenever a determined number of stacked documents has been detected by the counting circuit, the toothed belt is moved a predetermined distance.
- this stacking device comprises a support pad formed by a conveyor belt guided by holding rollers and motorized directly or not.
- This conveyor belt is inserted into the bottom of the receptacle adapted to receive the boxes in which the documents are to be stacked.
- the motorization of the conveyor belt helps the insertion of documents in the receptacle and its advance is preferably controlled at the position of the top of the stack.
- the stack of documents is held by a pallet carried by a rail by means of a trolley and constantly recalled by a spring towards the arrival of the documents. The lower edge of the pallet rests on the conveyor belt. Its displacement is thus linked to that of the conveyor belt.
- the conveyor belt is replaced by a set of smooth bars forming the support range. The support range is therefore fixed.
- US Pat. No. 7,344,134 discloses a flat document stacking device having a fixed support area traversed by grooves receiving a belt coupled to a retaining element.
- the belt is motorized and able to move the retaining element according to the size of the detected battery by means of detectors.
- DE 58 754 discloses a booklet stacking device comprising a conveyor belt, driven by wheels, the brochures being received, on their field, on the conveyor belt.
- the conveyor belt is coupled to a ratchet wheel arranged to, when the stack has reached a certain thickness, block the advance of the conveyor belt.
- the battery can thus be evacuated.
- the battery is also maintained, during the stacking of the brochures, by a plate permanently solicited by means of return to the area of introduction of the brochures.
- patent FR 2 526 772 discloses a stacking device of garment parts having a hemmed edge. With this stacking device, the pieces are received on their edge, by flexible ribbons guided by pulleys. A vertical support is mounted integral flexible tapes and permanently solicited by a drum towards the arrival of the parts to maintain the stack.
- the French patent FR 1 399 480 describes a device for stacking flat documents in transportable boxes comprising a support pad adapted to receive the boxes in which the documents are to be stacked.
- This support range is in the form of two endless belts of flexible material having a low coefficient of friction.
- This stacking device also comprises a retaining element disposed in the box to be filled to hold the documents as and when stacking. The bottom edge of this retainer is attached to endless belts that are free. The retaining element is free.
- This device does not make it possible to form piles of flat objects on edge while avoiding the collapse of this pile.
- the invention aims to remedy the various disadvantages of the prior art presented above. It aims in particular to provide a device that allows the formation of flat objects on edge, according to a stack of great length, while avoiding the collapse of the latter. The invention also aims at providing such a device which is of a reasonable cost price, a simple structure and a convenient implementation.
- a device for stacking flat objects on edge comprising a frame supporting a support surface on which is formed a stack of said flat objects as the flat objects are introduced and pushed on edge, one by one, in a main direction against a cell retainer, provided at the front end of this stack, this retaining element being movable relative to the frame and associated with means arranged so that it exerts a restoring force on the object stack so as to ensure retention, characterized in that the support range is free mounting in translation relative to the frame in said main direction and is synchronized in displacement with the retaining element in this direction.
- the idea underlying the invention is to synchronize the respective displacements, on the one hand the edge of the folds resting on the support surface and, on the other hand, the retaining element. This makes it possible to avoid accumulating excess displacement between these folds and this element, which confers a great stability on the stack thus created.
- a synchronizing member separate from the support pad, which is translationally connected in the main direction to both the retaining element and the support pad;
- the support surface comprises at least one smooth belt
- the or each smooth belt is wound around a series of rollers mounted idle on the frame;
- the synchronizing member is a toothed belt mounted idle on the frame, and the retaining member has a proper pin to cooperate with two adjacent notches of the toothed belt;
- the synchronizing member is a chain adapted to cooperate with a lug or pinion of the retaining member
- both the synchronizing member and the support range are devoid of motor means.
- the invention also relates to a postal sorting machine comprising sorting outlets, characterized in that each sorting outlet comprises a stacking device as above.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stacking device according to the invention.
- Figure 2 is a front view of the stacking device shown in Figure 1;
- Figure 3 is a side view of the unstacking device, illustrating more particularly the formation of a battery
- Figure 4 is a side view, similar to Figure 3, illustrating the formation of a battery in the case of a device of the prior art. Description of the embodiments
- the stacking device first comprises a fixed frame, designated by reference 10. There is also an inlet E, corresponding to the arrival of flat objects. Typically, this input is placed in communication with a conveyor device, not shown, belonging to a sorting machine of conventional type.
- This stacking device further defines a zone Z for receiving flat objects, which is bordered laterally by a jogging edge 11, against which the objects bear, as well as by a retaining bank 12.
- D the longitudinal direction of the device, along which the stack of objects moves as it is formed.
- a plate 13 is used to guide, according to the arrow F1, the flow of objects admitted from the entrance E towards the zone Z.
- An actuator 14, capable of being rotated along the arrow fi, is placed at a first longitudinal end of the zone Z. It is equipped with actuating elements 16, able to push the formation stack along the direction D, namely according to the arrow F2 as shown in Figure 3.
- This actuator of conventional type, is shown very schematically.
- the longitudinal end of the receiving zone, opposite the actuator, is defined by a pallet 18, forming a retaining element in the usual way.
- This pallet is movable relative to the chassis, in the direction D, by being mounted on a guide 20. It can be retracted in known manner, by rotation around the guide according to the arrow h- Moreover, means not shown, of the type reel or counterweight, are associated with the pallet so that it exerts a restoring force on the stack of objects, so as to ensure retention.
- the frame also supports two sets of rollers, arranged symmetrically with respect to a median longitudinal axis of the device.
- One of these sets of rollers is illustrated in FIG. 3, it being understood that the other set is analogous.
- These rollers, labeled 22i to 22 n, Ai have rotational axes to A n which extend perpendicularly to the direction D.
- the rollers are idly mounted on the chassis, i.e. they are devoid of any operator to rotate them.
- the surface of this belt 24 is therefore able to move in the direction D, simultaneously with the rotation of the rollers about their axis.
- a toothed belt 26 further extends between the two smooth belts 24 and 24 ', approximately in the middle thereof, namely substantially along the median longitudinal axis. As will be seen hereinafter, this belt 26 makes it possible to synchronize the respective displacements, in the direction D, of the smooth support belts 24, 24 'and of the pallet 18.
- This toothed belt is mounted idly on the chassis by any suitable means such as rollers, similar to those described above.
- Means 28 make it possible to mutually link the different belts in translation, along the direction D.
- These connecting means are illustrated diagrammatically in FIG. 2. It will also be noted that, again with reference to this Figure 2, the support plane of the smooth belts extends above that of the toothed belt. In other words, it does not support the flat objects, such as O shown in this figure.
- the pallet 18 has a lug 18 ', which enters into service between two adjacent notches of the belt 26. This allows to link, at least in translation in the direction D, this pallet and this belt.
- the belt can be replaced by a chain, which then cooperates with a pin or a pinion carried by the pallet.
- the stacking device is empty of any flat object.
- the pallet 18 is recalled in the vicinity of the actuator 14. Then, when the arrival of the first object is detected, this induces a rotation of the actuator, which pushes the pallet directly, according to the arrow F2 in Figure 3.
- This first object is thus interposed between the actuator and the pallet, while abutting against the jogging edge January 1. Moreover, a possible rebound of this object is limited by the retaining bank 12.
- the movement of the pallet 18 in the direction D, induced by the actuator, is accompanied by a corresponding displacement of the toothed belt 26, because of the cooperation of the latter with the lug 18 '.
- the smooth belts 24 and 24 ' are also set in motion.
- Figure 3 illustrates the movements of the various mechanical members, mentioned above.
- the stack P of flat objects Oi to O n we find the stack P of flat objects Oi to O n , while the arrow F2 materializes the advance of the stack opposite the actuator.
- the arrows F3 materialize the movement of each smooth belt, in particular the displacement of its upper face under the effect of the advance of the battery P.
- Figure 4 illustrates a conventional stacking device, for which the mechanical elements similar to those of Figures 1 to 3 are assigned the same reference numbers, increased by 100.
- the invention allows a synchronous movement between the edge of the objects, resting on the smooth belts, and the pallet connected to the toothed belt. This makes it possible, therefore, to avoid accumulating shifts between the respective displacements of the pallet and the edge of the objects, which are responsible for the collapse of the stack in the prior art. It has thus been found that the invention allows the formation of piles of great length, for example greater than 30 centimeters, of flat objects that are not rigid such as magazines.
- the stacking device according to the invention is of great mechanical simplicity.
- it is advantageous to provide an object support member, which can be driven by them during the formation of the stack. Indeed, it is not necessary to provide a specific drive member that induces overweight, additional manufacturing costs, and a clean order.
