Definitions
- the invention relates to a symbol indicator, in particular for rail-bound traffic routes, with LED modules for pixel-wise visualization of the symbol and the LED modules associated with optical elements, which are arranged on a front panel.
- Railroad safety symbol displays consist of a large number of light points arranged in grids - the pixels.
- the symbols to be displayed for example numbers or letters, form a meaningful arrangement of defined individual pixels.
- an electrical driver assembly is used for driving the symbol.
- the radiation behavior of the symbol indicators in particular light distribution, axle light intensity, color and phantom protection, is subject to the field-tested requirements of railroad operation.
- the pixels of the symbol indicator are illuminated by different optical methods.
- incandescent lamp technology the light from a central signal lamp is coupled into a light conductor bundle, distributed via its fibers and transported to the front lenses of the pixels.
- LED technology predominantly uses several LED light sources per pixel, but at least one LED light source per pixel.
- LED modules and the associated lenses are usually arranged in a compact design directly on the front panel of the symbol indicator.
- symbol indicators are used to transmit information to approaching rail vehicles. These are often safety-relevant information that must by no means be falsified visually or blended by extraneous light.
- the phantom effect can lead to a false display as a result of an untimely illumination of at least one pixel or a color shift. Particularly disturbing occurs this effect when using LED modules as a light source, as LEDs can be excited by incident light to shine or LED reflectors often rear reflectors are used.
- LED modules as a light source, as LEDs can be excited by incident light to shine or LED reflectors often rear reflectors are used.
- the reflection protection against extraneous light is realized in the symbol display mainly by the fact that the lens body of the single pixel has an elongated shape, wherein an opaque shell is provided, which the penetrating radiation absorbs. Due to the geometrical construction of the elongated lens body, it can be achieved that approximately all external light rays penetrating from outside at an angle of at least 10 ° are conducted onto the light-absorbing underside of the lens body.
- the front panel in known symbol displays is provided with openings, which correspond to the light exit surface of a pixel.
- symbol-dependent front panels do not provide optimal phantom protection, since the symbol to be displayed is impressed by the corresponding arrangement of the front lenses in the front panel, so that the phantom effect is symbol-dependent and reflected by an illuminated, d. H. activated symbol, even though the symbol indicator is deactivated.
- the invention has for its object to provide a symbol indicator of the generic type, in which an impairment of safety due to the phantom effect is largely avoidable.
- the object is achieved in that the LED modules are arranged inclined to the front panel at an angle and that the optical elements are formed as Kollimatorlinsen.
- the collimator lens effects the parallel direction of the light beams generated by the LED and incident at an inclination angle, for example 7 °, of the LED module to the collimating lens obliquely to the optical axis of the collimator lens.
- an inclination angle for example 7 °
- unwanted phantom light can penetrate the collimator lens largely unhindered even at angles of incidence of less than 10 ° and can be absorbed by housing parts of the LED module.
- the LED Its inclination itself does not influence phantom light in its luminous behavior, or is affected by phantom light.
- the LED modules are equipped with opaque encapsulated housings. This results in optimal absorption of flat incident phantom light.
- the length of the collimator lens is smaller than its diameter.
- the phantom light is mainly produced by housing parts in the area of the rear of the lens, i. H. preferably of housing parts, which belong to the LED module, and not absorbed by the lateral surface of the lens. A complete encapsulation of each individual collimator lens can thus be dispensed with.
- the collimator lenses have Eingrauept.
- the Eingrauung improves phantom control, especially when it is feared that, for example, due to the location, despite inclination angle between the LED module and front panel extraneous light reflections can occur.
- the ratio between phantom control and light intensity of the pixels can be optimized in a simple manner by determining the degree of incorporation.
- a scattering disk or a gray filter disk can also be used.
- the front panel is fully loaded with collimator lenses.
- the phantom light detection is improved because of the lens surface reflected phantom light affects the entire surface of the icon indicator equally and affects not only the symbol specific pixels.
- the symbol-specific unnecessary pixels can be covered according to claim 6 but also with light-absorbing caps.
- different symbols can thereby be realized with a symbol indicator, whereby according to need the pixels not required in each case are covered by repositioning the light-absorbing caps and LED modules without LEDs are plugged in at these locations.
- the LED modules are advantageously according to claim 7 attachable by snap connection to the front panel.
- the collimator lenses can also be plugged or pressed onto the other side of the front panel. This results in a simple, tool-free installation of the individual pixels of the symbol indicator.
- the invention will be explained below a figurative representation.
- the figure shows the essential components for a light spot or pixel of a symbol indicator according to the invention on the basis of a vertical sectional view.
- an LED module 1 with a single LED 2 with an inclination angle a which is approximately 10 °, is arranged relative to a front plate 3.
- a plurality of the LED modules 1 associated collimator lenses 4 are used, which directs the obliquely incident on the collimator lens 4 LED light in a substantially horizontal propagation direction parallel.
- the light points or pixels not required for the respective symbol, for example a number or a letter, are covered with light-absorbing caps.
- the LED modules 1 which are not required at these locations are replaced by dummy modules, ie by LED housings 5 without LEDs 2.
- the LED modules 1 required for the symbol pixels are connected via connecting wires 6 to a driver module, not shown, for actuating the symbol indicator.
- Each LED module 1 is equipped with the light-absorbing housing 5, which has openings in the region of an LED lens 7. Furthermore, the LED module 1 is provided with a snap connection 8 for attachment to the front panel 3. As a result, a simple, tool-free installation of the LED modules 1 is possible. Also, the collimator lens 4 can be removably attached to the front panel 3 in a similar manner.
- This structure is characterized by very effective external light suppression. Also very flat incoming extraneous light, z. B. at low sun, is absorbed to the LED housing 5. In addition to the inclination between LED module 1 and front panel 3 with the angle ⁇ contributes to the flat design of the collimator lens 4 at. Extraneous light can predominantly penetrate the collimator lens 4, without affecting the very short one
- the extraneous light intensity can be further reduced by embedding the lens material.
- the claimed concept of pixel generation allows a very extensive protection against extraneous light, the so-called phantom effect, by combining the angled arrangement between LED module 1 and front panel 3, with encapsulated LED housing 5, flat lens design, lens material, full assembly of the front panel 3 and attaching plastic caps on the pixels not involved in the symbol to be displayed.
