Abstract
The invention is designed for a headlight system of a motor vehicle. By means of a revolving fitting and power unit a defect bulb moves away from the centre and the spare bulb (or a bulb with another colour/intensity) turns into the centre and can be activated. So, the problem of a defect bulb during the driving is in the past.
Description
Lighting system for a vehicle headlight
The present invention concerns a lighting system for a headlight of a motor vehicle. An example of a motor vehicle is a car, truck, moped or a motorcycle.
This invention is designed to eliminate the inconvenience and potentially dangerous situations caused by headlight bulb failure in all forms of motor vehicle.
This system includes a head reflector 2, see fig. 1A, designed for beam focusing.
The invention incorporates an electrically operated revolving fitting, mounted with two or more bulbs. In the event of the main bulb Bl failure, see fig. 1A, the fitting is automatically rotated to allow the reserve bulb B2, see fig. 1A, to take its place. A power unit 1, see fig. 1A, automatically rotates the fitting when the bulb is defective, this is effected by means of a measuring device which reacts to deviations in resistance. The system is supplied with a memory to record which bulb is defective. The driver can then replace the defect bulb at his or her convenience.
The revolving fitting and power unit 1 can be fabricated as one unit.
Fitting configurations are: 180° and 90° rotation.
180° rotation, see fig. 2A, 4A and 4B.
90° rotation, see fig. 3A, 5A and 5B.
In fig. 2A bulb B2 is placed under bulb Bl, but can be placed at any position around bulb Bl. see fig.4B. In case of the 180° rotation bulb B2 can be used as a spare bulb. In theory the spare bulb can be another type of bulb (left and right side)- other color/intensity. The reserve bulb can be of different designation than the main bulb, but both left and right sides must be identical. The vehicle must also be stationary during the operation as momentarily no light is emitted. Two switches operate the system.
Instead of 180° rotation, 90° rotation is also possible (see fig. 3A, 5A and 5B). In case of a 90° rotation also bulb Bl and bulb B2 can be the same type of bulb. In the event of the main bulb Bl failure, the reserve bulb B2 take its place, left or right side only. This system allows switching from main to reserve bulb, either right or left, whilst the vehicle is in motion. The bulbs can be of identical designation, or specific types to suit adverse driving conditions. The switching possibilities are divers. These include switching from bulb Bl to bulb B2 and vice versa on left and right sides or both sides simultaneously.
A 90° rotation can be constructed in a way that a 180° rotation will be also possible however, when only a 180° rotation will be possible (see fig. 2A, 4A and 4B) the radius along which the bulbs moves will be more than 25% smaller compared with the 90° rotation (see fig.3A,5A and 5B).
Good tuning by means of configuration of the headlight reflector 2, the front reflector 3 and the
position of the bulbs takes care that there is negligible effect from bulb B2 on bulb Bl. In a special construction an extra reflector 4 (see fig.6A) is used.
In all cases the fitting can be easily removed from the rear of the headlight unit.
It is advisable to operate the unit from time to time in order to prevent any seizure of the mechanism, due to prolonged inactivity, as could be the case if a xenon lighting system is installed.
Claims
1. A Lighting system for a headlight of a motor vehicle with battery include:
A headlight with a head reflector(2), designed for beam focusing;
A revolving fitting incorporating at least two bulbs, one centrally positioned, partially located within the headlight reflector;
A power unit(l)connected to the battery of the motor vehicle for revolving the bulbs in case to change the central bulb, preferably the revolving fitting and power unit should be fabricated as one unit;
A switch to activate the central bulb using the battery of the motor vehicle as power source;
A bulb failure detector, enabling automatic rotation of the fitting;
A memory device to indicate the position of the defect bulb.
2. Lighting system as claim 1, and include 180° rotation construction, left and right sides individually driver operated whilst the vehicle is stationary.
3. Lighting system as claim 1, and including 90° rotation construction, left and right sides individually driver operated whilst the vehicle is in motion.
4. Lighting system as claim 1, and including 90° rotation construction, left and right sides simultaneously driver operated whilst the vehicle is in motion.
5. Lighting system as claim 1 and 2, constructed with extra reflector(4 ).
