Abstract

The invention relates to an energy system comprising: - a rotating body with a horizontal rotation axis, wherein the centre of gravity of the rotating body lies outside the rotation axis; - a generator driven by the rotating body; and - drive means for driving the rotating body, wherein a part of the energy generated by the generator is supplied to the drive means.

Description

ENERGY SYSTEM
The invention relates to an energy system which according to applicant can generate energy.
5 Such systems are described in different publications. An energy system is for instance described in JP 2003 227456. This prior art energy system has a pendulum suspended from a frame. The swinging movement of the pendulum drives a
generator. Energy generated by this generator can then be L0 stored. Part of the energy is however used to maintain the swinging movement of the pendulum. This is achieved with two electromagnets, each arranged on a side of the stroke of the pendulum. These electromagnets are controlled subject to the position of the pendulum and so attract the pendulum at the L5 correct moment so that the swinging movement is maintained.
Such a system is difficult to scale up for professional energy production.
It is now an object of the invention to provide an energy system which can be scaled more easily for energy production 10 on industrial scale.
This object is achieved according to the invention with an energy system comprising:
- a rotating body with a horizontal rotation axis, wherein the centre of gravity of the rotating body lies
15 outside the rotation axis;
- a generator driven by the rotating body; and
- drive means for driving the rotating body, wherein a part of the energy generated by the generator is supplied to the drive means .
50 Because the centre of gravity lies outside the rotation axis, when the rotating body is rotating some energy will be required to move the centre of gravity over the dead centre position for a subsequent rotation of the rotating body. This energy is supplied by the drive means, which assist the
35 rotating body to overcome the dead centre. The rotation of the body can be used to drive a generator. According to applicant, the energy generated with this generator can be used for the drive means and, in
addition, to provide other power consumers, such as for instance lamps, with energy.
A preferred embodiment of the energy system according to the invention comprises control means for activating the drive means when the centre of gravity of the rotating body is situated close to the lowest point, as seen in the direction of the force of gravity.
Using these control means energy is consumed only at the right moment for the purpose of controlling the drive means.
Another preferred embodiment of the energy system
according to the invention comprises an energy storage, such as a battery, for storing the energy generated by the
generator. An energy storage is preferably used as described in WO 9705685 .
Through the use of the energy storage the energy
production by the generator is separated from the energy requirement of users. If more energy is required than is being generated, it is hereby possible to nevertheless meet the demand, while if production is higher than the requirement the energy can be temporarily stored.
Another embodiment of the energy system according to the invention comprises a sensor for controlling the drive means subject to the position of the rotating body. Using this sensor it is easily possible to detect the moment at which the drive means must be controlled in order to move the rotating body over the dead centre.
The rotating body is preferably a wheel. A wheel can contain a large amount of rotation energy, while its
dimensions are limited. An energy system according to the invention can hereby be scaled up easily for industrial energy production.
In another preferred embodiment of the energy system according to the invention a local thickened portion is arranged on the tread of the wheel and the drive means
comprise a driven wheel which engages on the local thickened portion.
5 In this embodiment the driven wheel can be arranged
stationary adjacently of the wheel. The driven wheel only has contact with the rotating body at the position of the
thickened portion. By arranging the thickened portion at the right position along the periphery the driven wheel will 10 assist the rotating body over the dead centre at the correct moment .
Yet another embodiment of an energy system according to the invention comprises a transmission arranged between the rotating body and the generator.
L5 Using the transmission the rotation speed of the rotating body can be converted to a rotation speed at which the generator operates most efficiently.
These and other features of the invention are further elucidated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
.0 Figure 1 shows an embodiment of an energy system
according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a schematic cross-section of the embodiment according to figure 1.
Figure 1 shows an energy system 1 according to the
>5 invention. This energy system 1 has a frame 2 on which a wheel 3 is arranged for rotation. The wheel has a central axis 4 with which it is bearing-mounted in frame 2. A thickened portion 6 is arranged on peripheral surface 5 of wheel 3.
A drive 7 is provided adjacently of wheel 3. This drive 7 30 has an electric motor 8 and a driven wheel 9. Driven wheel 9 is placed at a distance from peripheral surface 5 of wheel 3 such that it can only make contact with thickened portion 6.
A generator 10 is further arranged on frame 2. This generator 10 is connected via a V-belt 11 to a pulley 12 on 55 central axis 4. Generator 10 is driven by wheel 3 via V-belt 11. The difference in diameter between pulley 12 and the axis of generator 10 ensures that generator 10 rotates at a higher rotation speed than wheel 3.
5 Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the embodiment
according to figure 1. Arranged in wheel 3 are a number of arms 13, 14, 15 with weights 16, 17, 18, 19 on either side.
Weights 16, 17, 18, 19 impart mass to wheel 3, whereby it can store rotation energy. In addition, the centre of gravity
L0 20 of the wheel is displaced by the uneven weight distribution of weights 18 and 19 on arm 15 so that it does not coincide with central axis . As a result, the wheel tends to take up a position in which the centre of gravity 20 is situated at the lowest point, although the rotation speed of wheel 3 is
L5 maintained by wheel 3 being repeatedly driven with drive 7 via thickened portion 6. The energy generated by generator 10 hereby remains constant.
Control of drive 7 at the correct moment and storing of the energy generated by generator 10 are controlled by a
10 control accommodated in a housing 21. Batteries can further be placed in this housing.
