Definitions
- the present invention relates to a link loss forwarding technique for notifying the opposite device of the occurrence of link disconnection when a link disconnection occurs in a network device such as a network relay device or a media converter.
- link loss forwarding When a link disconnection occurs in a network device such as a network relay device or media converter, the occurrence of the link disconnection is notified to the opposite device, and the link between the opposite device and its subsequent device is forcibly disconnected.
- a link loss forwarding Such control is called link loss forwarding.
- link loss forwarding The reason why link loss forwarding is performed is to cause subsequent devices to recognize the occurrence of link disconnection, to stop useless data transfer to be discarded, or to transfer data via a detour path.
- the network relay device 100 when a link disconnection a occurs between the network relay device 100 and the L2SW (layer 2 switch) 101, the network relay device 100 is connected to the network relay device 200 that is the opposite device. Notifies the occurrence of link disconnection a. Upon receiving this notification, the network relay device 200 forcibly generates a link disconnection b with the L2SW 201. Furthermore, the network relay device 200 notifies the network relay device 100 that is the opposite device that the link disconnection b has occurred. By this notification, the network relay device 100 recognizes that the link disconnection b has occurred on the opposite device side. Therefore, even if the link failure a that is the original failure is recovered, the link disconnection a is forcibly performed. Will be generated. Therefore, the network relay devices 100 and 200 fall into a deadlock state in which they wait for link recovery on the partner device side.
- the frame may be discarded.
- the network relay devices 300 and 400 arranged opposite to each other in the first stage send part of the frames input from the L2SWs 303 and 403 to the opposite device via the inter-device interface 500, respectively.
- the rest is sent to the second-stage network relay devices 301 and 401 via the lines 304 and 404.
- the second-stage network relay devices 301 and 401 send part of the frames sent via the lines 304 and 404 to the opposite device via the inter-device interface 501, respectively, and the rest via the lines 305 and 405 To the network relay devices 302 and 402 of the network.
- the third-stage network relay devices 302 and 402 send the frames sent via the lines 305 and 405 to the opposite device via the inter-device interface 502, respectively.
- the load can be distributed to each inter-device interface, reducing the risk of frames being discarded due to insufficient capacity of the inter-device interface. Can do.
- the network relay devices 401 and 402 notify the network relay devices 301 and 302, which are opposite devices, that the link disconnection c has occurred. .
- the network relay devices 301 and 302 forcibly generate link disconnection d, and further notify the opposite devices 401 and 402 of the occurrence of link disconnection d.

- the device 2 detects the link up of the line L3, sets the lower line termination unit 2-e as the link up in the extension header information, and transmits it to the device 3.
- the device 3 recognizes the link up of the lower circuit end of the opposite device 2 from the extension header information, and changes the load balance. As a result, the devices 5 to 8 are incorporated in a multistage configuration, and load balancing using the lines L8 and L10 can be performed.
- load balancing can be performed by link loss forwarding even if a failure occurs in any line in a multistage connection configuration. Even when multiple failures occur, the existence of a load balance destination is determined based on the link status between the interface between the devices and the lower line termination, and separation and incorporation from the multistage configuration is realized.
- a three-stage configuration is taken as an example, but the number of stages is not limited and can be expanded.
- the number of line terminations is four.
- the number of lines is not limited and can be expanded because of the free bandwidth of the interface between devices.

There is nothing.
- the present embodiment includes a load balance function unit that determines the load balance destination of the Ethernet frame from the host device 2 according to the state of the lower line termination unit 5-E of the own device 5 and the inter-device interface L9. Therefore, communication can be continued even if a failure occurs.
- the links of the lines 2-a to 2-d that are terminated by the line termination units 2-A to 2-D of the own device 2 that are necessary for performing link loss forwarding Since the information is set in the header part of the Ethernet frame sent to the opposite device 3 and sent to the opposite device 3, the bandwidth can be used effectively.
