Abstract

A storage device for the storage of a medium, in particular of a pressurized medium, such as, for example, liquefied natural gas, having a single-walled or multi-walled storage container, is described. According to the invention, in the upper region of the storage space (3) a multiplicity of nozzles (6) are provided, these nozzles (6) being arranged in such a way that the medium discharged from these produces a downwardly directed curtain of mist (8), the mist curtain (8) being configured such that between its outer wall and the inner wall of the storage space (2) at least one convection roll (9) can be formed.

Storage device
The invention relates to a storage device for the storage of a medium, in particular of a pressurized medium, such as, for example, liquefied natural gas, having a single- walled or multi-walled storage container.
Storage devices of the generic type are sufficiently known from the prior art. According to their purpose of use, storage devices of this type are of single-walled or multi-walled, preferably double-walled construction. Especially in the storage of cryogenic gases or of liquefied natural gas, an insulation, preferably a perlite insulation, is provided between the walls of the storage devices - i.e. between the outer and the inner container.
Storage devices of the generic type must be run cold prior to the first filling and kept cold following filling and extraction of the stored medium. This cold-running and cold- keeping has hitherto been realized by introducing a suitable medium, for example liquefied natural gas or liquefied nitrogen, into the storage device and storage container when this cold-running and cold-keeping is first carried out. An even cooling of the storage device and storage (inner) container is unattainable, however, by means of the known cold-running and cold-keeping methods. The result of this is that the storage device and storage (inner) container are placed under uneven load and are cooled unevenly.
The object of the present invention is to define an inventive storage device for the storage of a medium, in which the aforesaid drawbacks can be avoided.
For the achievement of this object, a storage device of the generic type for the storage of a medium is proposed, which is characterized in that in the upper region of the storage space a multiplicity of nozzles are provided, these nozzles being arranged in such a way that the medium discharged from these produces a downwardly directed curtain of mist, the mist curtain being configured such that between its outer wall and the inner wall of the storage space at least one convection roll can be formed. According to the invention, within the storage space of the storage device according to the invention, a mist curtain is now generated, which, in turn, produces and maintains a convection roll. Due to this convection roll and the resulting high heat transfer between the sprayed medium and the inner wall of the storage device and storage (inner) container, an even cooling of the storage device and storage (inner) container can be realized.
The nozzles which are used are preferably so-called atomizer nozzles, which allow the medium used for the cold-running and cold-keeping of the storage device to be injected in such a way that fine mist droplets are obtained.
In accordance with the shape of the storage space of the storage device according to the invention, a nozzle arrangement should be chosen which allows at least one sufficiently large convection roll to be formed between the outer wall of the mist curtain and the inner wall of the storage space.
Further advantageous embodiments of the inventive storage device for the storage of a medium, which form the subjects of the dependent patent claims, are characterized in that
the nozzles are disposed on a nozzle ring,
the nozzles are disposed on a plurality of preferably concentrically arranged nozzle rings,
the sprayed medium is the medium stored in the storage device, or the sprayed medium is not the medium stored in the storage device,
the quantity of sprayed medium is variable, and
the nozzles and/or the nozzle ring(s) are configured such that they are variable in terms of their arrangement and/or alignment.
The inventive storage device for the storage of a medium, as well as further embodiments of the same forming the subjects of the dependent patent claims, shall be explained in greater detail below with reference to the illustrative embodiment represented in the figure.
The figure shows a non-scale, lateral sectional representation through a spherical storage device, as is used, for example, for the storage of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Storage devices 1 of this type are generally of double-walled construction, an insulation being provided between the inner and the outer container. The figure merely represents a container, specifically an inner container 2, which defines the actual storage space 3. The filling and extraction lines necessary for the operation of such storage containers 1 are not represented. The storage device 1 rests on a supporting structure, which is usually formed from a multiplicity of stays 4.
According to the invention, a multiplicity of nozzles 6 are now provided in the upper region of the storage space 3. These nozzles 6 are preferably disposed on a nozzle ring 5. Depending on the shape and/or size of the storage space 3, a plurality of preferably concentrically arranged nozzle rings 5 can also be provided. The medium sprayed via the nozzles 6 can here be identical to the medium stored in the storage device 1. Alternatively hereto, other mediums suitable for cold-running and cold- keeping may also be used.
The medium sprayed via the nozzles 6 - represented by the lines 7 illustrated in dashed representation - forms a mist curtain 8, in the case of a spherical storage container 1 as represented in the figure, a cylindrical mist curtain.
According to the invention, the nozzles 6 should be arranged such that the formed mist curtain allows the formation of a convection roll 9 between the outer wall of the mist curtain 8 and the inner wall of the storage space 3.

Patent Claims
1. Storage device for the storage of a medium, in particular of a pressurized medium, such as, for example, liquefied natural gas, having a single-walled or multi-walled storage container, characterized in that in the upper region of the storage space (3) a multiplicity of nozzles (6) are provided, these nozzles (6) being arranged in such a way that the medium discharged from these produces a downwardly directed curtain of mist (8), the mist curtain (8) being configured such that between its outer wall and the inner wall of the storage space (2) at least one convection roll (9) can be formed.
2. Storage device according to Claim 1 , characterized in that the nozzles are disposed on a nozzle ring (5).
3. Storage device according to Claim 2, characterized in that the nozzles (6) are disposed on a plurality of preferably concentrically arranged nozzle rings (5).
4. Storage device according to one of the preceding Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the sprayed medium is the medium stored in the storage device (1), or in that the sprayed medium is not the medium stored in the storage device (1).
5. Storage device according to one of the preceding Claims- 1 to 4, characterized in that the quantity of sprayed medium is variable.
6. Storage device according to one of the preceding Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the nozzles (6) and/or the nozzle ring(s) (5) are configured such that they are variable in terms of their arrangement and/or alignment.
