Abstract

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de modifier l'énergie cinétique d'ions, lequel procédé consiste à piéger des ions dans une région de piégeage d'un piège à ions, puis à faire passer un faisceau gazeux au travers de la région de piégeage de façon à modifier l'énergie cinétique des ions ainsi piégés. L'invention concerne également un procédé de séparation d'ions consistant à faire entrer les ions dans une région de piégeage d'un piège à ions en passant par un premier axe de la région de piégeage, puis à faire cheminer un courant gazeux selon le premier axe, et enfin à appliquer un potentiel électrique respectant le sens du premier axe de façon à provoquer la séparation des ions sur la base de leur mobilité ionique. L'invention concerne enfin un piège à ions et un spectromètre de masse permettant de réaliser ce procédé.
