Abstract

The body (1) of the bolt socket, on the side sunk in the window frame (3), is provided with a reinforcing insert (2), preferably a metal one, the reinforcing insert having a boss (21) fitted into the inner cavity (17) in the bolt socket body, open on the side of the socket sunk in the window frame, and the boss (21) together with the side surface of the inner groove constitute a shape connection, protecting the bolt socket from shifting in the direction of sash opening.

Description

Catch for handle bolt, particularly for roof windows
The subject of the invention is a catch for the handle bolt in the form of a bolt socket or a stopping block. The invented catch is being used mostly in roof windows.
Known are roof window bolt sockets made of plastics, sunk in the window frame, provided with an externally accessible bolt groove. The handle bolt mounted on the sash sinks into the bolt groove when closing the sash. The bolt sockets are provided also with additional bolt grooves, used when the sash is slightly opened for venting. The existing bolt sockets are fixed to the window frame by a single screw located in the central part of the groove. Known are also handle bolt catches in the form of a stopping block made completely of plastics, fixed by one or several screws to the window frame.
The essence of the invention consists in that the catch for the handle bolt, having the form of a bolt socket body sunk in the window frame, or of a stopping block fixed to the window frame, is provided with a reinforcing insert, preferably made of metal, placed in the socket body on its side sunk in the window frame, or in the stopping block at its side adhering to the window frame. In both variants of the handle bolt catch, the body of the bolt socket or the stopping block fixed to the window frame are preferably made of plastics. The bolt socket, or the stopping block are being fixed to the window frame by at least one threaded fastener, preferably a screw, passing especially through a hole in their bodies. At least one threaded fastener fixing the bolt socket or the stopping block to the window frame passes through the reinforcing insert, preferably through a hole concentric with the hole for that threaded fastener in the body of the bolt socket or the stopping block.
The catch according the first variant of the invention, in the form of the bolt socket, the body of which is sunk in the window frame, is provided with at least one externally accessible stopping grove (i.e. on the unsunk side of that body), which houses the handle bolt when the sash is in closed position. The body has a surrounding flange resting on the surface of the window frame, the flange preferably being monolithic with the body. The reinforcing insert placed in the groove body at its side sunk in the window frame has a boss led into an internal cavity in the socket body, the cavity being open on the side of the groove sunk in the window frame. The internal cavity is located near the bolt grove and the partition separating them serves as an abutment for the handle bolt in fully closed position of the sash. The boss of the reinforcing insert together with the side surface of the inner cavity in the socket body constitutes a shape connection, protecting the socket from moving in the sash opening direction. The reinforcing insert is preferably provided with a catching lug located in the furrow, which is a part of the groove for the bolt socket in the window frame. Together with the side surface of that groove, the catching lug constitutes a shape connection, protecting the socket from moving in the sash opening direction. The catching lug takes and transmits to the window frame the thrust of the bolt through the bolt socket, by the same relieving the thin wall in the window frame cross-section between the bolt socket and the window frame surface on the side facing the adhering sash. It is advantageous, when the reinforcing insert is also provided with a supporting lug aiming towards the external face of the window frame. The supporting lug is located between the surface of the bottom of the groove for the bolt socket in the window frame and the inner surface of the socket adjacent to the bottom of the groove.
The catch for the handle bolt, having the shape of the bolt socket, is fixed to the window frame preferably by at least two threaded fasteners, particularly being screws. It is preferable to place the threaded fasteners so that at least two of them are located at different spacings from the face surface of the window frame. This permits to transfer in the best way the load of the bolt pressure on the bolt groove through the threaded fastener located closer or farther from the face of the window frame. A supporting lug on the reinforcing insert is not necessary when the threaded fasteners are located at different spacings from the face surface of the window frame.
The bolt socket has, beside the bolt groove housing the handle bolt when the sash is completely closed, an additional bolt grove accessible from outside, which contains the handle bolt when the sash is slightly opened for venting purposes. Preferably, the additional grove has two inlets, which enables gradual, slight opening the sash for venting.
The catch according to the second version of the invention has the form of a stopping block made of plastics, mounted on the window frame, with one surface mating with the handle bolt, provided inside with a reinforcing insert, preferably made of metal. The threaded fastener fixing the catch to the window frame, particularly a screw, passes through a preferably concentric hole in the reinforcing insert for that threaded fastener. In the stopping block fixed to the window frame by several threaded fasteners, some of them may pass through a groove in one of the side walls of the spacing insert, particularly that one, which is located on the side opposite to insert wall, on which abuts the body of the stopping block pressed by the handle bolt in the direction of sash opening. The reinforcing insert is shaped on its surface facing the window frame preferably with an abutting offset, adhering to the offset on the window frame. An identical offset is made on body of the stopping block. Besides, the reinforcing insert is provided with at least one locating pin, which is mating with a hole in the window frame, preferably with interference fit.
The advantage of applying the invention consists in increased strength and stiffness of the catch in the form of a bolt socket or stopping block, while keeping a fine appearance and resistance to corrosion of the external parts of the catch made of plastics.

The subject of the invention is also presented in the examples of makes not shown in the drawing, described by comparison with other exemples of makes, which are depicted.
Example 1. The catch of the handle bolt in form of a bolt socket has its body 1 made of plasties and a metal reinforcing insert 2, which are fitted together into the frame 3 of a roof window. The body 1 is provided with a surrounding flange, monolithic with the body, resting on the surface of the window frame 3. In the body 1 of the bolt socket, on its side accessible from outside, there is a bolt grove 12 containing the bolt of the handle mounted on the sash when the window is closed. The bolt socket according this example is designed to operate in conjunction with a rotary bolt, therefore the abutting surface of the bolt grove 12 is made with two slantwise arranged homing sections 13 and a centrally placed crest section 14, which makes it possible to press down the seals of the sash to the abutting surfaces of the frame when closing the window. The bolt socket body 1 is made with the additional bolt grove 15, which has two inlets separated by the partition 16. The additional bolt grove 15 mates with the handle bolt when the window is slightly open for ventillation, and the possibility to place the the handle bolt on either side of the partition 16 enables selecting one of the two steps of slight opening.
The metal reinforcing insert 2 is placed in the part of the bolt socket body 1 sunk in the window frame 3, resting on the bottom of the groove 31, which contains both the reinforcing insert 2 and the body 1. The reinforcing insert has a boss 21 inserted into the inner cavity 17 of the socket body, open from the side sunk in the window frame. The inner cavity 17 is located near the bolt grove 12 and is separated from it by the wall which constitutes the abutting surface for the handle bolt. The boss 21 of the reinforcing insert adheres to that wall on its crest section 14, on the side of the inner cavity 17. On the other hand, the homing sections 13 of that wall are connected with the wall of the of additional bolt groove 15 by the ribs 18 located on both sides of the inner cavity 17.
The reinforcing insert 2 has a catching lug 22 located in the furrow 32, which is a deepened part of the groove 31 in the window frame for the bolt socket. Together with the side surface of the furrow 32, the catching lug 22 constitutes a shape connection, hampering the socket from being shifted in window opening direction. The reinforcing insert 2 has also a supporting lug 23 aiming at the external surface of the window frame. That lug is located between the bottom surface of the groove 31 in the window frame and the part of the body 1 containing the additional bolt grove 15.
The bolt socket is fixed to the window frame by two screws 4 located at different distances from the face surface of the window frame. The first screw 4 is located in the center of the body 1 , as in prior art devices, in the additional bolt grove 15. The second screw 4 is more distant from the face surface of the window frame, namely in the bolt grove 12. Both screws 4 pass through the open holes in the body 1 and through the holes 24 in the reinforcing insert concentric with them, the heads of the screws being sunk in the sockets 19, which enables unobstructed movement of the handle bolt. The screw holes in the body, on the side opposite to these grooves, are surrounded by a cylindrical rim each, mating with the shallow sockets 25 in the reinforcing insert.
Example 2. The catch of the handle bolt in form of a stopping block fixed to the window frame has a body 5 made of plastics and a metal reinforcing insert 6, which are together fixed to the window frame 7 by the screw 4 passing through the hole 61 in the reinforcing insert, concentric with the hole 51 in body of the stopping block. The hole 51 is provided at the inner side by a protruding rim, which mates with the socket 62 in the reinforcing insert.
The stopping block according this version of the invention is designed to operate in conjunction with a rotary bolt, therefore the abutting surface of the body 5 mating with bolt is made with slanted homing sections 52 and a centrally located crest section 53, permitting to press down the sash seals to the abutting surfaces of the window frame when closing the window. The reinforcing insert is formed fittingly to these surfaces of the body.
The stopping block mates with the offset 71 in the window frame, resting on it, which protects the block from being pushed under the pressure of the handle bolt. In order to mate with the window frame offset, the reinforcing insert is made with the offset 63. The reinforcing insert 6 has also two locating pins 64, set into the cylindrical holes 72 in the window frame.
Example 3. The catch of the handle bolt, in form of a bolt grove, has a body made of plastics, containing a metal reinforcing insert, which is shorter than in the first example of execution, not being provided with a supporting lug. The bolt socket is fixed to the window frame by two screws located as in the first example, while the first, centrally located screw passes only through the plastics body. The remaining features of that bolt socket are the same, as in the first example of execution.
Example 4. The catch of the handle bolt, in form of a bolt grove, has a body made of plastics, containing a metal reinforcing insert, both parts having the same shape and location as in the first example of execution. The bolt socket is fixed to the window frame by one screw located centrally in the bolt socket, passing through holes in the body and in the reinforcing insert, as in the first example of makes. The remaining features of that bolt socket are also the same, as in the first example of execution.
Example 5. The catch of the handle bolt, in form of a stopping block, has a body made of plastics containing, as in the second example, and a metal reinforcing insert. Differing from the second example, the stopping block is fixed to the window frame by two screws placed symmetrically in the stopping block, at equal distances from the face surface of the window frame. In the middle, the stopping block has a locating pin fitting into a cylindrical hole in the window frame.

Claims

Patent claims
1. Catch for handle bolt catch, particularly for roof windows, having especially the form of a bolt socket, mostly made of plastics, the body of which is sunk in the window frame, with at least one bolt grove accessible form outside of that body, containing the handle bolt when the window is closed, and having a preferably monolithic flange around the body resting on the surface of the window frame, the socket being fixed to the window frame by at least one treaded fastener, preferably being a screw, passing particularly through a hole in the body of the socket, characterized in that the body (1 ) of the bolt socket, on the side sunk in the window frame (3), is provided with a reinforcing insert (2), preferably a metal one, the reinforcing insert having a boss (21 ) fitted into the inner cavity (17) in the bolt socket body, open on the side of the socket sunk in the window frame, and the boss (21 ) together with the side surface of the inner groove constitute a shape connection, protecting the bolt socket from shifting in the direction of sash opening.
2. Catch according claim 1 , characterized in that the reinforcing insert (2) has a catching lug (22) located in the furrow (32) being part of the groove (31 ) in the window frame (3) for the bolt socket, and the catching lug (22) together with the side surface of the furrow (32) constitute a shape connection protecting the groove from shifting in the direction of sash opening.
3. Catch according claim 1 , characterized in that the reinforcing insert (2) has a supportng lug (23) located between the surface of the bottom of the groove (31 ) in the window frame for the bolt socket and the inner surface of that socket neighboring with the bottom of the grove.
4. Catch according claim 1 , or 2, or 3, characterized in that at least one threaded fastener (4) fixing the bolt socket to the window frame (3) passes through the reinforcing insert (2), preferably through the hole (24) in it, concentric with the hole in the body of the bolt socket provided for that threaded fastener.
5. Catch according claim 4, characterized in that at least two threaded fasteners (4) are located at different distances from the front surface of the window frame.
6. Catch according claim 1 , or 2, or 3, or 4, or 5, characterized in that the body (1 ) of the bolt socket is provided with an externally accessible additional bolt grove (15), containing the handle bolt when the window is slightly open for venting purposes.
7. Catch according claim 6, characterized in that the additional bolt socket (15) has two inlets, to enable gradual, slight opening of the window.
8. Catch for handle bolt catch, particularly for roof windows, having especially the form of a stopping block, preferably made of plastics, fixed to the window frame, one side of the block mating with the handle bolt when the window is closed, the stopping block being fixed to the window frame by at least one threaded fastener, preferably a screw, characterized in that in the body (5) of the stopping block at the side adhering to the window frame (7) is provided with a reinforcing insert (6), preferably a metal one, and the threaded fastener fixing the stopping block to the window frame passes through the hole (61 ) in the reinforcing insert concentric with the hole (51 ) in the body of the stopping block for that treaded fastener.
9. Catch according claim 8, characterized in that the reinforcing insert (6) has on its surface adhering to the window frame (7) a stopping offset (63) adhering to the offset (71 ) on the window frame.
10. Catch according claim 8, characterized in that the reinforcing insert (6) has at least one locating pin (62) fitting into the hole (72) in the window frame, preferably with interference.
