Definitions

  • TITLE HORSE-RIDING STIRRUP AND FOOTWEAR FOR USE THEREWITH
  • the present invention relates to a horse-riding stirrup and especially a horse-riding stirrup for keeping a rider's foot wear in a secure engagement with the stirrup.
  • the present invention also relates to the footwear used together with such a horse-riding stirrup.
  • a horse-riding stirrup is used as an aid for the rider to sit up on the horse and also during riding.
  • a horse-riding stirrup consists of a metal plate or bar adapted for receiving the sole of the rider's footwear. Furthermore, it often consists of two branches forming an upside down U connected to the base plate or bar. Where the two branches meet there is provided an opening or slot for connecting the horse-riding stirrup to the stirrup leather, which in turn is connected to the saddle.
  • stirrups that only have one branch. By only having one branch there is no risk that the foot will get stuck during a fall from the horse. On the other side, having only one branch will make it easier for the foot to disengage during the horse ride, which as described above is a problem.
  • the problem to be solved according to the present invention is to further improve a horse-riding stirrup for keeping a rider' s footwear in secure engagement with the stirrup and in which the foot cannot get stuck when the rider falls of the horse.
  • a horse-riding stirrup comprising a substantially rectangular base plate having a first side adapted for receiving the sole of the footwear, a branch having one end connected to the short side of the base plate and bhe other end to a stirrup leather.
  • the branch is extending in a direction away from the first side of the base plate and a magnet is integrated in the base plate of the stirrup.
  • the magnet is provided in a direction that is substantially diagonal to the first rectangular side of the base plate and the branch is extending away from the short side of the base plate with an angle ⁇ that is in the range of 20-60°.
  • the magnet is instead provided in the sole of the footwear and a metal plate is integrated in the base plate of the stirrup.
  • the base plate of the horse-riding stirrup comprises a holding portion and an insert portion adapted to engagingly fit in the holding portion.
  • the insert portion is provided with a diagonally slot for holding the magnet or the metal plate, depending on the embodiment.
  • the side of the insert portion that is facing the sole of the footwear is provided with a high frictional surface, and the magnet is preferable made in a rustproof material.
  • the range of the angle ⁇ is in a preferred embodiment of the present invention 25-50°, preferably 35°.
  • the present invention does according to yet another aspect disclose footwear for use together with a horse- riding stirrup as mentioned above.
  • the footwear is provided with a metal plate or a magnet that is integrated in the sole of the footwear.
  • the metal plate may be provided on the front sole of the footwear and has a thickness off 1-3 mm, preferably 2 mm.
  • the metal plate or magnet is according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention embedded in the front sole, 2-4 mm below the surface of the sole.
  • a horse-riding stirrup according to the present in- vention has several advantages. Not only is the stirrup safe, i.e. the foot of the rider cannot get stuck in the stirrup, since it only has one branch, but it also facilitates the engagement by providing the diagonal magnet in the stirrup and the metal plate in the footwear or the metal plate in the stirrup and the magnet in the footwear. Furthermore, the way the branch is provided with an angle ⁇ facilitates the alignment between the horse-riding stirrup and the footwear.
  • Figure 1 shows an exploded view of the horse-riding stirrup according to the present invention.
  • Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the horse-riding stirrup according to the present invention.
  • Figure 3 shows a top view of the horse-riding stirrup according to the present invention.
  • Figure 4 shows the sole of horse-riding footwear, indicating the place where the metal plate is integrated.
  • FIG. 1 shows an exploded view of the horse-riding stirrup according to the present invention.
  • the stirrup comprises a base plate, which in this embodiment consists of a holding portion 2 and an insert portion 4 adapted to engagingly fit in the holding portion 2.
  • the insert portion 4 is provided with a diagonally slot 6 for holding a magnet or a metal plate 8.
  • the magnet 8 is glued onto a small metal plate 10, which has a larger surface than the magnet 8. This prevents the magnet from leaving the slob 6 and it will be secured to the base plate during riding.
  • the magnet 8 may move a little in the slot 8 in order to follow the movement of the rider' s footwear during a ride.
  • FIG 1 also shows the one branch 12 of the stirrup.
  • the branch 12 is at one end connected to the short side of the base plate and the other end to a stirrup leather.
  • the connection with the stirrup leather is made through an opening 14 (see figure 2 ⁇ provided in the one end of the branch 12.
  • Figure 2 also shows that the insert portion 4 is provided with a high frictional material 16.
  • the purpose of the high frictional material is to further enhance the contact between the rider's footwear and the stirrup.
  • the branch 12 is extending away from the short side of the base plate with an angle ⁇ .
  • the angle ⁇ is typically in the range of 20-70°.
  • the reason for this design is that the opening 14 will be turned in relation to a traditional stirrup, in which the opening is perpendicular to the horse. The turning of the opening 14 in such a way that it is almost parallel with the horse will align the stirrup in its operational position. This is an advantage if the grip between the rider' s foot and the stirrup is lost during the horse ride, since it will be easier to get the foot back in place .
  • the sole 18 of the riding footwear is shown.
  • a metal, piece or metal plate is integrated in the sole.
  • the magnet could be integrated in the sole instead of the metal plate.
  • the metal plate or magnet is schematically shown with reference sign 20.
  • the position of the metal plate 20 is chosen in such a way that the position of the stirrup is optimized when the footwear and the magnet 8 are in engagement.
  • the metal piece is provided substantially in the middle of the front sole of the riding footwear.
  • the metal piece or magnet is preferably inserted into the outer sole from the inside of the footwear and thereafter is the inner sole inserted.
  • the metal plate 20 is preferably inserted 2-4 mm below the surface of the outer sole, most preferably 3 mm.
  • the metal piece 20 preferably has a size of 45x8x2 mm. However, the size could be varied considerably and is of course adapted to the size and strength of the magnet used in the stirrup.
  • the rider needs Lo enter the horse and thus puts his one foot in the stirrup to get support for his climb. Having only one branch will of course facilitate this step, since there are no problems for the rider to place the foot in the stirrup. Furthermore, the turning of the branch in such a way that the opening for the stirrup leather is parallel with the horse facilitates the alignment of the stirrup, which also makes it easier for the rider to insert the foot.
