Definitions
- the present invention relates to a moving image encoding / decoding method and apparatus, and in particular, an effect of improving image quality can be obtained by setting and transmitting filter coefficient information of a loop filter on the encoding side and using it on the decoding side.
- the present invention relates to a moving image encoding / decoding method and apparatus.
- FIG. 34 shows a block diagram of an encoding / decoding device provided with a deblocking filter in “Deblocking filter for 4x4 based coding”.
- the deblocking filter is also called a loop filter because it is used in the loop of the encoding and decoding apparatus like the deblocking filter processing unit 901 in FIG.
- the loop filter By using the loop filter, block distortion of a reference image used for prediction can be reduced, and there is an effect of improving encoding efficiency particularly in a high compression bit rate band in which block distortion is likely to occur.
- the deblocking filter is a process for reducing visually noticeable deterioration by blurring the block boundary, and it does not necessarily reduce the error from the input image. May decrease. Furthermore, since the image after filter processing is used as a reference image for prediction of the next image to be encoded, there is a problem that the influence of image quality degradation due to the filter propagates to the predicted image.
- Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2001-275110 provides a moving picture decoding method that dynamically switches between using a deblocking filter as a loop filter or a post filter on the decoding side.
- FIG. 35 shows a block diagram of an encoding / decoding apparatus provided with the loop / post-filtering switching method disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2001-275110.
- a deblocking filter processing unit 902 provided in the moving image decoding apparatus in FIG. 35 generates a decoded image to which a deblocking filter is applied, and outputs the decoded image as an output image.

- Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2001-275110 does not perform the same process on the encoding side, and thus there is a problem that a mismatch occurs between the encoding side and the decoding side.
- the image quality of the reference image is not improved on the encoding side, the effect of improving the encoding efficiency cannot be obtained.
- FIG. 36 shows a block diagram of a moving image encoding / decoding device in “Post-filter SEI message for 4: 4: 4 coding”.

- the filter coefficient information is set on the encoding side so as to reduce the error between the decoded image and the input image. It is possible to improve the image quality of the output image to which the post filter is applied on the decoding side.
- the method of “Post-filter SEI message for 4: 4: 4 coding” does not use an image with improved image quality as a reference image, and can obtain an effect of improving encoding efficiency on the encoding side. Can not.
- the method disclosed in “Deblocking filter for 4 ⁇ 4 based coding” does not necessarily improve the image quality, and there is a problem that the image quality degradation caused by the filter propagates to the predicted image.
- the method disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-275110 performs loop / post-filtering switching only on the decoding side, and there is a problem that a mismatch occurs between the encoding side and the decoding side.
