Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an air cushion. More specifically, the present invention relates to an air cushion with improved usability.
  • the air cushion is designed to easily enable partial replacement or repair of damaged or functionless air cells of the air cushion.
  • a conventional air cushion is configured with a plurality of air cells, and these air cells are interconnected through a plurality of communicating tubes, such that air can flow between the individual air cells.
  • the air cushion is a very expensive product in terms of constituent material and structural characteristics.
  • a conventional air cushion has a structure where a plurality of air cells are integrally interconnected to one another by means of communicating tubes. Therefore, such a structure suffers from disadvantages in that repair or replacement of the air cells should be done on a large scale even when some of the air cells are partially damaged or decreased in cushionability. As a consequence, large-scale replacement or repair of the air cells will take a long period of time, thus leading to significantly decreased usability of the device.
  • the air cushion is very expensive which makes it difficult to furnish a spare for emergency purposes, so patients may be exposed to very dangerous conditions if the replacement or repair process is delayed or takes long.
  • the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide an air cushion which is capable of minimizing damage or injury of air cells through the protection of the air cells by an upper plate and a lower plate.
  • the air cushion is configured such that two or more adjacent air cells are modularized into a given number of component modules and the resulting air cell modules can be partially replaced or repaired.
  • an air cushion with a plurality of air-filled cells including:
  • an upper plate having a plurality of integrally-formed air cell-receiving protrusions, each protrusion having an air cell-receiving space therein;
  • a lower plate being detachably attached to a lower part of the upper plate.
  • the plurality of air cells are formed into one or more air cell modules by the communication connection of two or more adjacent air cells.
  • the upper plate has first attaching/detaching portions on a lower surface of the edge thereof, the lower plate has second attaching/detaching portions on an upper surface of the edge thereof, and the second attaching/detaching portions are detachably interlocked to the first attaching/detaching portions.
  • the upper plate, the air cells and the lower plate are inserted in an assembled state into a cushion case.
  • An upper surface of the cushion case is formed of an air-permeable material, and a lower surface of the cushion case is formed of a waterproof material.
  • the air cell is formed to have a narrow-top, wide-bottom profile such that a cross-sectional area at the top is smaller than the bottom.
  • a surface of the upper plate is coated with an antimicrobial layer.
  • an air cushion in accordance with the present invention is configured in a manner that only the damaged air cell modules out of multiple air cell modules can be partially disassembled and then replaced or repaired. As a result, a period of time required to replace or repair the damaged one can be minimized.
  • the usability of the air cushion is advantageously greatly enhanced since the function of the air cushion can be continuously maintained even when some of air cell modules are partially disassembled.
  • the present invention is advantageously capable of preventing damage or injury of air cell modules caused by external force and is also capable of preventing potential contamination of air cell modules by foreign materials.
  • FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of an air cushion in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention
  • FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line A-A of FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line B-B of FIG. 1.
  • FIGS. 1 through 3 show an air cushion in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention.
  • the air cushion of the present invention includes an upper plate 11, a lower plate 12, a plurality of air cells 21 disposed therebetween, and a cushion case 30.
  • the upper plate 11 is formed of a rubber, synthetic resin, cloth, paper, or the like, and is provided with a plurality of integrally-formed air cell-receiving protrusions 11a, each of which has an air cell-receiving space 11c therein into which each air cell 21 of the air cell module 20 can be detachably inserted.
  • a lower surface of the edge portion of the upper plate 11 has first attaching/detaching portions 11b made of pressure-sensitive adhesives or hook-and-loop fasteners, e.g. Velcro fasteners.
  • the air cell-receiving protrusions 11a are spaced at regular intervals to ensure proper airflow.
  • a surface of the upper plate 11 may be coated with nano-silver, charcoal, or any antimicrobial layer to secure antimicrobial or sterile properties.
  • the lower plate 12 is formed of a rubber, synthetic resin, cloth, paper, or the like, and has a flat surface.
  • An upper surface of the edge portion of the lower plate 12 is provided with second attaching/detaching portions 12b made of pressure-sensitive adhesives or hook-and-loop fasteners, e.g. Velcro fasteners.
  • the second attaching/detaching portions 12b are detachably attached to the first attaching/detaching portions 11b of the upper plate 11, so that the lower plate 12 is detachably attached to the lower surface of the upper plate 11.
  • a plurality of air cells 21 may take a structure where all of the air cells 21 are in communication connection by means of the communicating tubes 22.
  • only a portion of air cells 21 may be interconnected through the communicating tubes 22, thereby forming a modularized air cell module 20.
  • the air cell module 20 may be composed of a single air cell 21 or otherwise may be composed of a communication connection of two or more adjacent air cells 21 out of multiple air cells 21 through the communicating tubes 22.
  • the air cells 21 are filled with air and may be formed of a light and damage-resistant material, such as ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).
  • EVA ethylene vinyl acetate
  • the air cells 21 in the transverse direction are interconnected through the communicating tubes 22 to form one air cell module 20, thus showing an example of a communication connection of the air cells 21 in any one direction.
  • the air cell module 20 is partitioned from other neighboring air cell modules 20 in the longitudinal direction, so it is possible to carry out independent replacement of the target air cell module 20.
  • the air cells 21 can be modularized into a predetermined number of the air cell modules 20 by interconnection of a given number of the air cells 21 in the transverse and/or longitudinal direction through the communicating tubes 22.
  • a given number of adjacent air cells 21 may also be interconnected in various directions by means of communicating tubes 22. That is, the air cell module 20 is a configuration modularized by interconnecting some air cells 21 out of the total air cells 21 via the communicating tubes 22, whereby, among the plurality of air cell modules 20, only the functionless air cell modules 20 which were damaged or lost air-filling capacity can be partially replaced or repaired. Therefore, the configuration of the present invention advantageously enables long-term use of an expensive air cushion, consequently with improved usability thereof.
  • each air cell 21 has a narrow-top, wide-bottom profile such that a cross-sectional area at the top is smaller than the bottom.
  • the air cell-receiving space 11c of the air cell-receiving protrusion 11a is formed to conform to the shape of the air cell 21.
  • the air cell modules 20 can be isolated and protected from the outside. As a consequence, possible damage of the air cell modules 20 due to external force can be prevented and potential contamination of the air cell modules 20 due to various kinds of foreign materials can also be avoided.
  • the air cushion of the present invention may further include a cushion case 30.
  • the cushion case 30 has a space 35 therein for receiving an air cushion assembly. Into the space 35 are inserted the upper plate 11, the lower plate 12 and the air cell module 20 in an assembled state.
  • the upper surface 31 of the cushion case 30 is formed of an air-permeable material, and the lower surface 32 of the cushion case 30 is formed of a waterproof and/or anti-slip material.
  • One side of the cushion case 30 is provided with a cover 33, and the cover 33 is finished with the formation of an interlocking device such as zipper or Velcro fastener.
  • Provision of the cushion case 30 in accordance with the present invention enables more effective protection of the air cell modules 20 against external force or foreign materials.
