Description
"IMPROVEMENT IN INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR BRACKET ASSEMBLY"
The present descriptive specification refers to a patent of invention for an interior rearview mirror bracket assembly belonging to the field of automotive accessories that has been improved to be able to perform one more function in addition to the usual function.
Interior rearview mirrors for automotive vehicles are already known in the art and comprise essentially: the mirror itself; usually, an anti-glare mechanism supporting the mirror; electric-electronic devices, such as courtesy lamp, displays and others; a housing lodging the mirror, the mechanism and the electric-electronic devices; and an interior rearview mirror bracket assembly formed essentially by: a supporting arm at whose lower end the interior rearview mirror housing is hingedly mounted; a base hingedly mounted at the upper end of the supporting arm; and a pad glued to the windshield where the base is received.
The power supply of the mentioned electric- electronic devices is usually provided by means of a wiring connected to contacts included in the windshield and extended outwards next to the base and supporting arm, which enters the interior rearview mirror housing, where it connects to electric-electronic devices. This solution meets the requirement of supplying power to the electric-electronic devices, but it is
not the most suitable way from an esthetic point of view.
Therefore, the objective of the present patent of invention is to provide an interior rearview mirror bracket assembly featuring a power supply conductive means for the electric-electronic devices housed inside the interior rearview mirror, which overcomes the aforementioned problem shown by conventional supports and electric power supply means.
Another object is to provide an interior rearview mirror bracket assembly, which while overcoming the above problem does not require for this very same reason high levels of construction or manufacture complexity, which would cause it to become uninteresting when compared to conventional mirrors.
Therefore, in view of the aforementioned problems and with the purpose of overcoming them and an aim at meeting the related objectives, the improvement in interior rearview mirror bracket assembly, object of the present patent of invention, has been developed, which is of the type essentially formed by: a pad glued to the windshield; a base sheltered in the pad; and a supporting arm at whose upper end the base is mounted, and at whose lower end the interior rearview mirror housing is mounted; and according to the present improvement the pad is made of or features an electric conductive material, which contacts the respective contacts of an
electric power supply circuit incorporated inside the windshield glass; the base is sheltered in the pad in the usual way, and incorporates in its inside an electric circuit formed by: spherical contacts, which when the base is mounted in the pad, contact the pad electric conductive material; and wires connected to said contacts which are routed through the base passage; the supporting arm features an inner passage communicating with the base passage, which opens inside the interior rearview mirror housing, and through which the wires of the base circuit are routed, and enter the housing where they are connected to electric-electronic devices; said pad electric conductive material and the base electric circuit are arranged in such way as to provide a path for the electricity between the windshield contacts and electric terminals of the electric-electronic devices housed inside the interior rearview mirror housing.
Such construction provides that the bracket assembly, besides its usual function of supporting the interior rearview mirror, is able to perform the additional function of providing the electric connection between the windshield contacts and the electric-electronic devices inside the interior rearview mirror without the need of an apparent external wiring, thus solving the esthetic problem of conventional electric power supply of said electric-electronic devices, as mentioned above.
On the other hand, the construction and
manufacture levels of complexity and cost of the present interior double- function rearview mirror bracket assembly do not cause it to become uninteresting when compared to usual, similar bracket assemblies.
The attached drawing refers to the improvement introduced in interior rearview mirror bracket assembly, object of the present patent, in which the bracket is shown by a non-restrictive illustration of a single schematic figure, wherein the bracket supports a rearview mirror in a windshield of an automotive vehicle.
According to what is shown in the above- mentioned drawings, the bracket assembly 1, object of the present patent of invention is only originally intended to mounting an interior rearview mirror 30 in the windshield 40 of an automotive vehicle, and according to the present improvement, the bracket assembly is able to perform the additional function of providing a path for the electricity between the contacts of a circuit 41 incorporated inside the windshield glass 40 and the terminals of the electric-electronic devices 31 usually mounted inside the interior rearview mirror 30.
Thus, the referred to bracket assembly 1 is formed essentially by: a pad 2 having a top surface 3 for gluing to the windshield 40 and opposite side guides 4; a base 10, which is sheltered and fixed to the pad 2, formed by: an interior block 11 provided with opposite side guides; a
spring (not shown) provided with folds which are adjustable inside the guides, and the guides and spring folds are sheltered in the guides 4 of pad 2, providing stable fastening means, the referred to base being further formed by a finish housing 12; said bracket assembly being also formed by a supporting arm 20 whose upper and lower ends incorporate respective fitting parts, wherein corresponding parts of the base 10 and the interior rearview mirror 30 fit and articulate, respectively.
The interior rearview mirror 30 is formed essentially by: the mirror itself 32; usually, an anti-glaring mechanism 33, where the mirror 32 is seated, and which after the driver actuates a lever moves the mirror between its normal positions and displaced position, wherein the headlight beam of a vehicle following behind is deviated in order not to glare the driver's eyes; said interior rearview mirror 30 is further formed by: electric-electronic devices 31, as courtesy light, displays and others; and a housing 34 which lodges the mirror 32, the mechanism 33 and the devices 31 and which features a rear fitting part, where the corresponding part of the supporting arm 20 is fit and articulated.
The electric circuit 41 incorporated inside the windshield glass 40 is formed by a pair of wires whose ends extend outwards the glass and connect to the electric circuit of the vehicle connected to the battery 50 and the opposite ends of said wires connect to
the electric contacts, which project outwards the glass surface.
According to the present improvement, the pad 2 is of or features an electric conductive material, and when mounted in the windshield 40, its electric conductive material stays in contact with the electric circuit contacts 41 incorporated inside the windshield glass 40; the base 10 is crossed by an electric circuit 13, which when the base 10 is mounted in the pad 2, contacts the electric material of the pad; the supporting arm 20 is crossed by the electric circuit 13, which enters the housing 34 and connects the terminals of the electric connection of the electric-electronic devices 31; said electric conductive material of the pad 2 and the electric circuit 13 of the base 10 are arranged one in respect of the other to provide a path for the electricity between the electric circuit contacts 41 of the windshield 40 and the contacts of the electric-electronic devices 31 inside the housing 34 of the interior rearview mirror 30 without using an apparent wire outside the bracket assembly 1 and the interior rearview mirror 30.
According to the basic construction described above, the interior rearview mirror bracket assembly object of the present patent may show modifications related to materials, dimensions, constructive details and/or functional and/or ornamental configuration without departing from the scope of the protection requested.
Therefore, the bracket assembly may have several constructive solutions. For example, particularly its pad 2 may incorporate two tracks of electric conductive material isolated from each other, which cross the pad of their interface with the windshield 40, where they contact the electric circuit contacts 41 of the windshield 40 up to the interface with the base 10, where they contact the electric circuit contacts 13 of said base 10. In the body surface 11 of the base 10 of the interface with the pad 2 the electric circuit contacts 13 are arranged, and their wires cross the passage 14 of said body 11. The supporting arm 20 features an interior passage 21 communicating with the passage 14 of the body 11 of the base 10 and with the inside of the housing 34 of the interior rearview mirror 30 and the electric circuit wires 13 cross it, and connect the electric-electronic devices 31 located inside the housing 34.
