Definitions

  • the invention relates to a wall element for buildings, the wall element comprising on both sides thereof vertical wooden first and second ver- tical bars and, between the vertical bars, horizontal wooden horizontal bars, whereby the vertical and horizontal bars have been fastened to one another in order to constitute the element.
  • An object of the present invention is to provide a wall element which is simple and efficient to manufacture industrially and which may be used as such either as a whole or by cutting in a process of building a house for constructing a wall such that openings for windows and doors may be easily provided as necessary after the frame of the wall of the actual building has been installed in its place.
  • the wall element according to the invention is characterized in that at least the first vertical bars have been provided with grooves for the horizontal bars in a thickness direction of the wall element such that when the horizontal bar has been installed in its place in the groove, the upper and lower longitudinal sides of the horizontal bar are in a tight contact with the corresponding surfaces of the grooves of the first vertical bars, and that each horizontal bar has been fastened to the first vertical bars by fastening members such that they are incapable of moving with respect to the vertical bar.
  • the wall element is formed from two vertical bar systems, one of which is inside it when the element has been installed and the other outside it, and from horizontal bars provided between the vertical bars, for which grooves have been made in vertical bars at least on one side with such accuracy according to the dimensions of the horizontal bars that when the horizontal bars have been installed in the grooves, the upper and lower longitudinal surfaces thereof are in a tight contact with the surfaces of the grooves such that the vertical bars equipped with grooves and the horizontal bars are incapable of turning with respect to one another but become unturnably and rigidly locked with one another.
  • the horizontal bars have been fastened by means of fastening members, such as nails or nail plates, to vertical bars provided on both sides.
  • an essential idea of an embodiment of the invention is that the horizontal bars provided in the upper and lower edges of the wall element are stronger than the rest of the horizontal bars, i.e. in practice they are thicker and wider bars, so that they constitute the load-bearing and stiffening top and bottom booms of the wall element.
  • An advantage of the invention is that the wall element may be manufactured efficiently by using mechanical machining of the grooves and by making the elements cut-to-size standard elements to be used either as such or by cutting them into an appropriate length of the element according to the building. This enables the walls of the building to be made from inexpensive standard elements and the wall frame to be erected in advance as well as the necessary door and window openings to be made therein only after the wall frame has been assembled in its place.
