Abstract

A device for a sash (2) for an insulated glass window (1), the sash (2) being formed of a plurality of sash profiles (11a, 11b, 12, 13), each provided with a first window-abutting surface (141) which is arranged to abut the edge portion (311) of a first window surface (312), and a groove bottom surface (142) arranged to support ingly abut, at least at points, a side edge surface (314) of an insulating glass unit (3), and - the sash profile (11a, 11b, 12, 13) including a groove (14) which is arranged to receive a side edge surface (314) of the insulating glass unit (3); - a lip (15) projecting from the groove (14), forming a groove side surface (143) opposite the first window- abutting surface (141); and - the lip (15) forming a putty seat (134).

Description

DEVICE FOR A WINDOW FRAME
The invention relates to a window sash device, more particularly a raised abutting surface for a triangular putty fillet against an insulating glass unit, a portion of the window sash extending in over the window glass in order thereby to provide for the spacer strip of the insulating glass unit, seen from the outside of the window, to be covered by said portion of the window sash and the triangular putty fillet.
For example, when rehabilitating old buildings which have re- quirements from antiquarian authorities regarding appearance, but in which the builder wants to implement modern functions in the form of a satisfactory insulating property (u-values) , mountings which are functional in relation to requirements for the positioning and closure of operable windows, sealing means which provide satisfactory wind tightness etc., it is difficult to find technical solutions which meet all the requirements .
Coupled windows with puttied-in single glazing in an outer sash and an extra sash on the inside with insulated glazing are often used. This type of window meets the requirements for facade form, but is demanding as far as operation and maintenance are concerned.
Common insulated windows with glazing strips of wood and a bottom strip of aluminium do not manage to combine antiquar- ian and building-technical requirements. If the spacer strips along the periphery of an insulating glass unit are to be covered completely, the puttying-in of insulating glass in a prior art window sash will result in the triangular putty fillet being too large, up to 14 x 14 mm, so that it will not look like the old windows, in which the triangular putty fillet does not exceed about 8 x 9 mm.
The same problem arises when glazing bars are used, whereby the total width may exceed 36 mm to provide satisfactory cov- ering of spacer strips between the panes. Old windows seldom have a glazing bar width of more than 22 mm.
The invention has for its object to remedy or reduce at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art .
The object is achieved through features which are specified in the description below and in the claims that follow.
It is an object of the invention to provide a device for a sash for an insulated glass window, the window sash profiles having a shape which provides abutting surfaces, also called seats, for a triangular putty fillet, which is arranged a distance away from the side edge of the insulating glass unit along an outer window surface, for the triangular putty fillet to cover only part of the edge portions of the insulating glass unit. This is provided by the edge portions of the insulating glass unit being inserted into a groove which ex- tends along the inner side surface of the sash profiles, that is to say the side surface which faces the opening of the window sash.
The invention relates in particular to a device for a sash for an insulated glass window, the sash being formed of a plurality of sash profiles, each being provided with a first window-abutting surface arranged to abut the edge portion of a first window surface, and a groove bottom surface arranged to supportingly abut, at least at points, a side edge surface of an insulating glass unit, characterized by the sash profile including a groove arranged to receive a side edge sur- face of the insulating glass unit; a lip projecting from the groove, forming a groove side surface opposite the first window-abutting surface; and the lip forming at putty seat. Thereby is achieved that a portion of the sash surrounding the insulating glass unit extends in over both window sur- faces and covers the edge portion of the insulating glass unit .
Out from the groove bottom surface, the groove side surface has an extent equalling at least a third of the height of an insulating glass spacer strip.
The putty seat of the lip is provided with a guide portion arranged to guide the insulating glass unit into the groove. The guide portion of the putty seat is preferably formed of a bevel which forms a transition portion between at least a portion of the groove side surface and the putty seat. The guide portion thereby provides better anchoring of the triangular putty fillet in the sash profile. There is also achieved simplified insertion of the insulating glass unit into the groove, in particular into the sash profile which is to receive a side edge surface which is moving perpendicu- larly to the longitudinal direction of the sash profile.
At least one stile profile is detachably connected to adjacent sash profiles. Thereby, simplified replacement of a damaged insulating glass unit is achieved.
The at least one detachable stile profile is provided with positioning means and securing means engaging the adjacent sash profiles. At least in a bottom rail profile, the sash is provided with draining passages which connect, in a fluid-communicating manner, the groove with an outer side surface of the sash profile .
In what follows is described an example of a preferred embodiment which is visualized in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a schematic front view of an insulated glass window according to the invention;
Figure 2 shows a front view of the insulated glass window in a dismounting or mounting phase, a stile profile being shown to have been detached and pulled away from the insulated glass window, and the insulated glass window not being provided with a triangular putty fillet between the window sash and window glazing;
Figure 3 shows a section III-III as it is indicated in figure 1 , and
Figure 4 shows an enlarged cross section of a bottom rail profile.
An insulated glass window 1 according to the invention includes a window sash 2 assembled from stile profiles 11a, lib, a top rail profile 12 and a bottom rail profile 13, the window sash 2 surrounding an insulating glass unit 3. The, in- sulated glass window 1 is provided with external and internal glazing bars 14a, 14b arranged on the outside of the insulating glass unit 3. In the transitions between the window sash 2 and the insulating glass unit 3 and between the external glazing bar 14a and the insulating glass unit 3 is arranged a sealing triangular putty fillet 19 of a suitable material known per se .
In an outer side surface 111, respectively 121, 131, that is to say on the side facing away from the insulating glass unit 3, the sash profiles 11a, lib, 12, 13 are provided with a se- ries of grooves 112, respectively 122, 132 providing, alone or by means of sealing means (not shown) fitted therein, sealing against a window frame (not shown) in a known manner.
In an inner side surface 113, respectively 123, 133 opposite the outer side surface 111, respectively 121, 131, there is arranged in each sash profile 11a, lib, 12, 13 an insulating glass groove 14 which forms a first groove side surface, also called a first window-abutting surface, 141, a groove bottom surface, also called a second window-abutting surface, 142, and a second groove side surface 143. The second groove side surface 143, a putty seat 134 and a portion of the external side surface 115, respectively 125, 135 of the sash profile 11a, respectively lib, 12, 13 form a lip 15.
From the groove 14 of the bottom rail profile 13 to the outer side surface 131 extend draining passages 16 arranged to drain any moisture penetrating into the groove 14.
In a manner known per se, the insulating glass unit 3 is made up of two panes 31 and intermediate spacer strips 32 which are arranged uninterruptedly along all of an edge portion 311 of the panes 31. The spacer strips 32 have a height H. The volume defined by the panes 31 and the spacer strips 32 is sealed in a gas-tight manner known per se with appropriate means arranged between the panes 31 and spacer strips 32. The insulating glass unit has internal and external window surfaces 312, 313 and a side edge surface 314.
At least one stile profile 11a, lib (here shown as the right stile profile lib) is detachably joined to the top rail pro- file 12 and the bottom rail profile 13, said sash profiles lib, 12, 13 being provided with corresponding first holes 116, 126, respectively 116, 136 which are arranged to receive a stabilizing joining means, here shown as a plug 17. The 5 sash profiles lib, 12, 13 are also provided with corresponding second holes 117, 127, respectively 117, 137 which are arranged to receive a fastening means, here shown as a screw 18. It is obvious to a person skilled in the art that any joining of craftsmanship of the art may be used in this con-o nection.
External and internal glazing bars 14a, 14b extend in a manner known per se transversally across the window surfaces 312, 313, respectively.
In all the transitions between sash profiles 11a, lib, 12, 135 and the outer window surface 313 of the insulating glass unit 3 and between the external glazing bar 14a and the outer window surface 313 of the insulating glass unit 3 has been laid a sealing triangular putty fillet 19 of a form known per se.
The transition zone between the second groove side surface0 143 and the putty seat 134 is preferably formed with a bevel 144. The purpose of this shape is partly to simplify the insertion of the insulating glass unit into the groove 14 but also to provide better anchoring of the triangular putty fillet 19 in the sash 2 on the lip 15. 5 As a window 1 according to the invention is joined together, a stile profile 11a, the top rail profile 12 and bottom rail profile 13 are assembled in a manner known per se, for example by plugging and gluing. Next, the insulating glass unit 3 is slid into the groove 14 of the incomplete window sash 2.o Then the second stile profile lib is joined to the top and bottom rail profiles 12, 13 and to the glazing bars 14a, 14b as the plugs 17 are inserted into the plug holes 117 of the stile profile lib and glazing bar attachments (not shown) , if any, engage the glazing bars 14a, 14b. The screws 18 are fitted and tightened.
Because of the lip 15 extending up along the outer window surface 313, part of the edge portion 311 of the insulating glass unit and thereby part of the spacer strips '32 are hidden out of view from the external side of the window. As it is desirable for the spacer strips 32 of an insulating glass unit 3 not to be visible and it is sought to cover them with the triangular putty fillet 19, this may be achieved with the present sash profile by applying a triangular putty fillet 19 with a smaller cross section than what is necessary on a prior art insulated glass window. The triangular putty fillet 19 is applied in such a way that the insulating glass unit 3 tightly abuts the first window-abutting surface 141 of the groove 14.
When replacing a glass unit 3 of a window according to the invention, the existing triangular putty fillets 19 are re- moved before the detachable stile profile lib is removed from the window sash 2. The glass unit 3 (or remains of the broken glass unit 3) is pulled out of the grooves 14 and the new glass unit 3 is inserted and the insulated glass window 1 is put together and puttied as described above.

1. A device for a sash (2) for an insulated glass window
(1) , the sash (2) being formed of a plurality of sash profiles (11a, lib, 12, 13) , each provided with a 5 first window-abutting surface (141) which is arranged to abut the edge portion (311) of a first window surface (312) , a groove bottom surface (142) being arranged to supportingly abut, at least at points, a side edge surface (314) of an insulating glass unit io (3), and the sash profile (11a, lib, 12, 13) including a groove (14) which is arranged to receive a side edge surface (314) of the insulating glass unit (3) , and a lip (15) which projects from the groove (14) and forms a groove side surface (143) opposite the first window- i5 abutting surface (141) , c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the lip (15) forms a putty seat (134) .
2. The device in accordance with claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that out from the groove bottom surface (142) , the groove side surface (143) has an
2o extent which equals at least one third of the height (H) of an insulating glass spacer strip (32) .
3. The device in accordance with claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the putty seat (134) of the lip (15) is provided with a guide portion (144) ar-

4. The device in accordance with claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the guide portion (144) is constituted by a bevel which forms a transition por- 0 tion between at least a portion of the groove side surface (143) and the putty seat (134) .
5. The device in accordance with claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that at least one stile profile (11a, lib) is detachably connected to adjacent sash profiles (12, 13) .
6. The device in accordance with claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the at least one detachable stile profile (11a, lib) is provided with positioning means (17, 116, 126, 136) and fastening means (117, 127, 18) engaging the adjacent sash profiles (12, 13) .
7. The device in accordance with claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that at least in a bottom rail profile (13) , the sash (2) is provided with draining passages (16) connecting, in a fluid- communicating manner, the groove (14) with an outer side surface (131, 135) of the sash profile (13) .
