Abstract

 入力画像信号の画像信号レベルに関わらず、十分な動画品質を得ることができる画像表示装置である。本発明の画像表示装置は、一画面分の画像信号に対応するフレーム期間ごとに、各画素の画像信号に基づいて画像を表示する画像表示装置において、一つのフレーム期間を、少なくとも一つのサブフレームA期間と、少なくとも一つのサブフレームB期間とを含んだ複数の期間に分けるタイミングコントローラと、各画素に対する入力画像信号の画像信号レベルを、予め規定される下限値と予め規定される上限値との範囲内に収まるように変換する画像信号事前変換部と、サブフレームA期間において各画素の変換後の画像信号に対して平滑化処理を施す第1の画像処理部と、サブフレームB期間において各画素の変換後の画像信号に対して強調処理を施す第2の画像処理部と、各画素に対する画像信号に基づき画像を表示する画像表示部と、を備えている。
