Abstract

La présente invention a pour objet une association d'un élément cathodique composite et d'un diaphragme ainsi que son procédé de fabrication. L'invention vise également l'utilisation de cette association dans une cellule d'électrolyse de solutions aqueuses d'halogénures de métaux alcalins. L'association d'un élément cathodique composite et d'un diaphragme selon l'invention est caractérisée par le fait qu'elle comprend une cathode élémentaire recouverte d'une précathode consistant en une nappe volumique de fibres comprenant au moins des fibres de carbone ou de graphite liées par un polymère fluoré, ladite nappe étant rendue plus conductrice à l'aide d'un agent électrocatalytique et par le fait que la précathode est recouverte d'un diaphragme consistant en une nappe de fibres de polymère fluoré dans laquelle sont imbriquées des particules d'un matériau réfractaire inorganique finement divisé et insoluble dans l'eau.
