Abstract

 白金触媒の代替材料として有用な高い酸素還元能を有する電極触媒を用いた電極触媒層ならびにその用途を提供すること。  本発明の電極触媒層は、金属有機化合物を熱分解して得られる金属酸化物からなる電極触媒を含むことを特徴とする。前記電極触媒を構成する金属元素は、ニオブ、チタン、タンタルおよびジルコニウムからなる群より選ばれた一種の金属元素であることが好ましい。
