- the present invention relates to a new simplified fronto-sagittal and two-dimensional echography apparatus. Indeed, it is preconceived only for the exploration of Temporomandibular joints (ATM) in the case of stomatological and traumatological examinations.
- ATM Temporomandibular joints
- the device allows to obtain directly and instantly images of the ATM at rest but especially during their movement.
- the other imaging uses X-ray (ionizing radiation) which is not the case of an ultrasound examination. This point is essential because it allows the ATM examination repetition to better study the topography of the region in different mandibular movements (functional examination of ATM), without any inconvenience for the patient, especially for pregnant women who should not be exposed to the X-ray.

- the device is composed of 5 elements:
- a double ultrasonic probe (right and left ') extraoral ⁇ fig.l, No. l) sending high frequency molecular shock waves (low wavelength) in the sagittal plane.
- These are acoustic waves that are not perceptible to the ear, as for conventional ultrasound machines but pre-set only for the region of temporal mandibular joints (TMJ) in the sagittal plane;
- the double probe is mandatory because the mandible has a double joint (right ATM and left ATM);
- a telescopic extra-oral flexible semicircular support (FIG. 1, No. 2) on which the two probes are fixed. It fits around the patient's head because it is flexible. The probes are articulated on this support at their junction. They are placed in front of the two external auditory conduits while keeping skin contact.
- the semicircular support is adjustable in height and therefore must be telescopic;
- a double intra-oral ultrasonic probe (right and left) in contact with the mucosa of the retromolar region of the upper jaw (Fig.2, n ° 1) linked by a flexible intra-oral flexible semicircular support adaptable to the upper jaw sending high frequency (low wavelength) molecular shock waves into the frontal plane.

- the reflected waves (radar principle) are then transformed into electronic signals to visualize the region concerned (principle of conventional two-dimensional ultrasound devices).
