Description

SYSTEME DE PROTECTION POUR OUVERTURE DE BOITE A GANT PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR GANTRY BOX OPENING
DESCRIPTIONDESCRIPTION
DOMAINE TECHNIQUE La présente invention concerne un système de protection pour ouverture de boîte à gant contenant des éléments radioactifs.TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a protection system for opening a glove box containing radioactive elements.
ÉTAT DE LA TECHNIQUE ANTÉRIEURESTATE OF THE PRIOR ART
Différents systèmes de protection pour ouverture de boîte à gant sont connus dans l'art antérieur .Different protection systems for opening the glove box are known in the prior art.
Des écrans de protection biologiques 3 sont placés autour de l'ouverture 0.FIG. 1A represents a glove box 1 in which there is radioactive material 2. The glove box 1 is provided with an opening 0 on which is fixed a circular ring 4, commonly called a round of glove. A protective glove is attached to the glove ring. Biological shields 3 are placed around the opening 0.
Figs. 1B and 1C show, respectively, a sectional view and a front view of the closure system of the glove box shown in Fig. 1A. The closure system comprises a hollow cylindrical cover 6 provided with a flat bottom on which is fixed a protective disk 7. The hollow cylindrical cover 6 is made of aluminum and the protective disk 7 is in gammastop. The hollow cylindrical cowl is adapted to the dimensions of the opening 0 so as to be able to plug in the opening. When the cover is plugged into the opening 0, the protective disc 7 protects the outside of the glove box particles that are emitted by the material 2 located inside the glove box.
Such a protection system, if effective when the glove box is closed by the hood, is not effective during an intervention. Indeed, during an intervention, it is necessary to remove the cover to be able, after donning the glove g, work in the glove box. No protection is then no longer ensured at the level of the opening 0. Moreover, the obligation that systematically put in place and remove the hood during successive interventions leads to degrade, by friction, the round of glove.
Another known protection system is disclosed in US Pat. No. 4,251,123. The protection system comprises three rigid flaps which are fixed by screws between two holding pieces. To ensure the desired protection, the flaps overlap partially. During an intervention, the rigid flaps must be moved, which leads the agent who intervenes to be no longer protected. The invention does not have the disadvantages mentioned above.
EXPOSÉ DE L'INVENTIONSTATEMENT OF THE INVENTION
Indeed, the invention relates to a protective system for opening the glove box, characterized in that it comprises a set of parallel flexible strips placed side by side and which form, at the opening, a screen for radiation emitted by a radioactive material placed inside the glove box.
According to a further feature of the invention, the material constituting the straps is gammastop or a material having a high density, consisting of heavy nuclei such as tungsten or lead.
According to another additional feature of the invention, the strips are held in a structure consisting of two elements pressurized against each other.
According to yet another additional characteristic of the invention, the two elements are pressurized against each other by rivets and magnets, the magnets serving to maintain the protection on the glove box.
According to yet another additional characteristic of the invention, the opening is circular and the two elements are half-rings placed at the periphery of the circular opening.
BRÈVE DESCRIPTION DES DESSINSBRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear on reading a preferred embodiment with reference to the appended figures among which:
- les figures 1A-1C représentent une structure de protection pour ouverture de boîte à gant selon l'art antérieur ; - la figure 2 représente une structure de protection pour ouverture de boîte à gant selon 1' invention ;- Figures 1A-1C show a protective structure for opening the glove box according to the prior art; FIG. 2 represents a protective structure for opening a glove box according to the invention;
- les figures 3A et 3B représentent la structure de protection respectivement avant et pendant une intervention.FIGS. 3A and 3B show the protective structure respectively before and during an intervention.
Figures 1A-1C have been previously described. It is therefore useless to return to it. FIG. 2 represents a protective structure for opening a glove box according to the invention. The protective structure comprises a set of flexible strips L and a holding structure 8. The flexible strips L are parallel to each other and located, side by side, at the opening of the glove box. The parallel flexible strips thus form a curtain which shields and protects the outside of the glove box from radioactive radiation emitted by radioactive material contained in the glove box. In a particular embodiment, the strips are arranged in such a way that two adjacent strips overlap over a certain width. The holding structure 8 consists of, for example, two half-rings between which are inserted the strips L. The two half-rings are held against each other, for example using rivets and magnets A. The strips L are preferably made using a material consisting of heavy nuclei (Tungsten, Lead ...). The use of tungsten instead of lead avoids the problems that management raises radioactive waste. However, it is possible in the context of the invention to use straps made of a material containing lead such as, for example, gammastop. In the absence of intervention, the strips L form a perfect screen which protects radiation coming from the inside of the glove box.
During an intervention, the intervening agent introduces his arm into the glove box through the screen constituted by the strips L. Due to their flexibility, the strips L deform essentially at the arm of the agent , leaving a large part of the screen without deformation. High level protection thus continues to be advantageously ensured. The dose rate measured outside the glove box can thus be reduced by approximately 80% compared to a situation where the glove box is devoid of straps.
Le maintien des lanières par deux demi- anneaux maintenus l'un contre l'autre à l'aide de rivets et d'aimants permet de changer facilement, lorsque cela s'avère nécessaire, une ou plusieurs lanières .Maintaining the strips by two half-rings held against each other by means of rivets and magnets makes it easy to change, when necessary, one or more strips.
The protective structure has, for example, a circular geometry as shown in FIG. 2. The overall diameter D of the circle defined by the protective structure is, for example, equal to 30 cm, the strips have a substantially equal width. at 2.5 cm and the magnets are circular magnets of diameter substantially equal to 2 cm. Figures 3A and 3B illustrate the use of the protection system of the invention. Figure 3A illustrates the situation in which the strips constitute a total screen (in case there is no intervention in the glove box). Figure 3B illustrates the situation in which an intervention takes place.
