Abstract

　取付金具２と、絶縁碍子３と、中心電極４と、接地電極５とを備えた内燃機関用のスパークプラグ１。接地電極５は、取付金具２に固定されるとともに、接地電極５における中心電極４側の面である対向面５１において中心電極４に向かって接地電極５の一部を突出させてなる凸部５１０と、接地電極５における対向面５１と反対側の面である接地電極背面５２から対向面５１に向かって形成された凹部５２０とを有する。凸部５１０は、軸芯の延長線が凹部５２０が形成されている領域を通過するよう配置されている。凹部５２０の開口部の面積をＳ１、スパークプラグ１の軸方向に直交する凸部５１０の断面の平均断面積をｓとしたとき、Ｓ１≧ｓの関係が成り立つ。
