Abstract

 本発明は、液晶表示装置に関し、特に、パネルの背面にバックライトを備える透過型の液晶表示装置に関する。  RGB画像信号に基づいて各色についての輝度レベル分布を取得する入力画像輝度レベル解析回路(120)と各色についての輝度レベル分布に基づいて補正係数を算出する補正係数算出回路(140)と補正係数に基づいてRGB画像信号の示す輝度レベルを補正する画像信号補正回路(160)とを含む階調信号生成部(100)と、補正係数に基づいて各色用のLEDの発光量を調整するバックライト光量制御回路(600)とを備える。補正係数算出回路(140)では、輝度レベルの補正によってRGB各色間の輝度レベル分布の差異が小さくなるように、補正係数の算出が行われる。バックライト光量制御回路(600)では、輝度レベルの変化と発光量の変化とが相殺されるように、各色の発光量の調整が行われる。
