Abstract

 マルチフレームメモリ(504)に記憶された参照ピクチャの画素データを用いて、符号化対象ピクチャを構成するマクロブロックの動き検出を行う動き検出装置であって、前記マルチフレームメモリ(504)から読み出された参照ピクチャの画素データのうち、第1の動き検出時の探索範囲である第1範囲に含まれる画素データを記憶しているローカルメモリ(702)と、前記ローカルメモリ(702)に記憶されている画素データを用いて、前記第1の動き検出を行う通常の動き検出部(704)と、前記第1範囲を含み、かつ当該第1範囲よりも広い第2範囲に含まれる前記参照ピクチャの画素データを用いて、前記第1の動き検出と異なるアルゴリズムを用いた第2の動き検出を行うダイレクト予測器(108)とを備える。
