Abstract

 高画質の動画表示も可能であり、かつ色純度が向上される表示装置と、その表示装置に用いられる照明装置とを提供する。第1の色を発する第1の光源(31G)と、第1の色に対して補色関係にある第2の色の光を発する第2の光源(31RB)とを備えた照明装置(3)と、0.5フレーム周期で各走査線GLを順次選択するゲートドライバ(24)と、1フレーム期間の前半において前記第1の色の画素へデータ信号を書き込み、後半において他の2色の画素へデータ信号を書き込むデータドライバ(23)と、1フレーム期間の前半において前記第1の光源を点灯させると共に前記第2の光源を消灯し、前記期間の後半において前記第2の光源を点灯させると共に前記第1の光源を消灯するスイッチ回路(26)とを備える。
