 表示装置は,複数の第1の電極が並行に設けられた第1の基板と,第1の電極と交差して画素を形成する複数の第2の電極が並行に設けられた第2の基板と,第1及び第2の基板間に形成され書き込み状態に応じて所定の波長の光を反射または透過もしくは吸収する材料層とを有する表示パネルと,第1,第2の電極をそれぞれ駆動する第1,第2の駆動回路と,第1,第2の駆動回路の駆動制御を行う駆動制御回路を有する。第1または第2の駆動回路が,表示画像の書き換え時において,第1または第2の電極の隣接する複数本の電極群にリセットパルスを印加しながら,当該複数本の電極群を走査して当該電極群の画素をリセットし,さらに,駆動制御回路は,第1または第2の駆動回路による複数本の電極群の走査方向を変更制御する。
