Abstract
A jig for a stress test includes two flanges having depressions for holding opposite ends of a test piece and produces compressive stress or tensile stress in the test piece by causing a compressive load or a tensile load to act on the test piece from either or both of the flanges. The jig has at least two guide members arranged parallel to the direction in which stress is applied to the test piece. In a stress test in which compressive stress or tensile stress is applied to a test piece taken from a metal material such as a steel pipe, the longitudinal direction of the test piece and the direction of stress application are always matched with each other to prevent an occurrence of buckling.
