Abstract

Disclosed is an oxidatively modified α-olefin polymer which is produced by oxidatively modifying a polymer of an α-olefin represented by the general formula: CH2=CH-CnH2n+1 [wherein n is an integer of 8 or greater] and satisfies the following requirements (A) to (E): (A) the stereoregularity index value M4 is 75 mol% or less; (B) the weight average molecular weight (Mw) is 500 to 5,000,000 and the molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) is 4.0 or less in terms of styrene content as measured by GPC method; (C) one melting peak appears in the melting point (Tm) measurement by DSC, the amount of heat absorbed upon melting (ΔH) as calculated from the area of the melting peak is 20 J/g or more, and the half-width value of the melting peak is 10°C or lower; (D) the acid value is 0.01 to 50 mg KOH/g; and (E) the amount of an extract with acetone is less than 0.1 mass%. The oxidatively modified α-olefin polymer is useful as an alternative material to a wax component. Also disclosed is a method for producing the oxidatively modified α-olefin polymer with high efficiency.
