Abstract
A surveillance camera and a surveillance camera control method capable of smoothly tracking a subject even if the subject passes near the point directly below the imaging means. The direction in which a person passes below a camera (12) can be often limited to that vertically crossing a line. On the basis of this fact, a position-below-camera crossing line (Lc) is previously set in the camera (12). When a person being tracked approaches the position-below camera crossing line (Lc), the orientation of the camera is set to be aimed at the position to which the person is predicted to advance and which is line-symmetrical with respect to the position-below-camera crossing line (Lc). The camera captures the person having passed directly below the camera and resumes tracking the person. With this, automatic tracking a person near and at the position directly below the camera can be smoothly tracked.
