Nachteilig hierbei ist, dass die Verwendung eines solchen Anschlages eine in unmittelbarer Nähe (üblicherweise maximal 10 bis 20 cm) und parallel zum gewünschten Schnitt verlaufende Kante des zu bearbeitenden Werkstückes voraussetzt, was in vielen Fällen nicht gegeben ist. Ist eine solche Kante vorhanden, ergibt sich ein weiteres Problem. Anders als bei Handkreissägen, welche sich aufgrund des großen Durchmessers der Sägeblätter recht problemlos geradeaus führen lassen, ist das geradlinige Führen einer Stichsäge trotz Verwendung eines Parallelanschlages problematischer.
