Definitions
- the present invention relates to a fire barrier door.
- the invention relates to a fire barrier door with a vertical or horizontal opening, consisting of fireproof materials joined to each other by components (such as synthetic glues, for example), which provide such mechanical characteristics as to allow the door to also be used intensively, said components, in the case of fire, progressively dissolving, for example by sublimation, evaporation, melting, ' carbonization, leaving the fireproof materials in position and suitable for guaranteeing the fire barrier effect for a certain period of time.
- components such as synthetic glues, for example
- the fire barrier doors generally consist of single panels or various panels flanked and/or joined to each other.
- materials are normally used which, together, form a barrier which resists fire for a certain period of time before melting or collapsing.
- the flame resistance is provided by the resistance of the plate exposed to fire and intermediate fireproof and insulating material, which only transmits a minimum part of the heat to the other side.
- fire barrier doors are in fact only used as a fire barrier and in the case of the contemporaneous necessity of continually opening and closing the opening protected by the fire barrier door, a second door or rapid door for intensive use is contemporaneously applied to said opening, whereas the fire barrier door remains static, open, and is only closed in the case of fire alarm or another alarm or specific command.
- said fire barrier doors are produced with lateral sliding, in order to sustain their considerable weight on an upper rail and to allow the door to be closed in the case of alarm by pulling a simple counterweight, which is unhooked by the alarm.
- An objective of the present invention is therefore to overcome the drawbacks specified above and, in particular, to provide a fire barrier door with a vertical or horizontal opening which is substantially light and which does not undergo significant dilations if subjected to fire.
- a further objective of the present invention is to provide a fire barrier door with a vertical or horizontal opening, which is suitable for being constructed in a single piece or in sections, with an horizontal or vertical opening, also in areas with a reduced side or upper space .
- figure 1 is a vertically sectional perspective view, illustrating only the part corresponding to the opening, of a first embodiment of a fire barrier door with a vertical or horizontal opening, according to the present invention
- figure 2 is a partial cross-section, exploded and perspective view of a fire barrier door with a horizontal opening, according to the present invention
- - figure 3 shows a partial perspective view of a first preferred but non-limiting embodiment of one of the panels of which the fire barrier door object of the present invention consists;
- - figure 4 shows an intermediate vertical section of the panel according to figure 3, in accordance with the present invention;
- FIG. 5 shows a vertical section of a second embodiment of one of the panels of which the fire barrier door, object of the present invention, consists;
- FIG. 6 shows a horizontal sectional view of a fire barrier door with a vertical opening, according to the invention
- FIG. 7 is a vertical section of a second embodiment of a fire barrier door with a vertical opening, according to the present invention.
- FIG. 8 is an enlarged view of a technical- constructive detail of the door of figure 7, according to the present invention.
- the fire barrier door PO object of the invention, consists, as shown in detail in figure 1, of one or more panels PAl, PA2, PA3, each consisting of at least two sides FACl, FAC2, joined to each other by at least two joining sectors SEl, SE2, SE3 , SE4 , with at least one chamber CAl, CA2 , CA3 between the sides FACl, FAC2.
- the terminal sectors SEl, SE2 are formed so as to allow each panel, for example PA2, to be coupled by insertion with possible adjacent panels, for example PAl, PA3 , with a sector (for example the sector SE5 of the panel PA2) which is penetrated by the sector SEl of the adjacent panel PAl (in this way, the sector SE6 of the panel PA2 is also constructed so as to penetrate the sector SE7 of the panel PA3) , thus forming as a whole a labyrinth and/or a nest connection, and/or a connection which does not allow the penetration of liquids towards the other side, if one of the two sides is exposed, for example, to water.
- each panel PAl, PA2, PA3 is fireproof, for example glass fibre and/or rock wool, with the fibres preferably positioned so as to form a protection, i.e. in a crossed arrangement.
- fireproof materials can be held together and reinforced by natural or chemical components, such as for example animal or vegetable or chemical glues, or by plastic products, in order to make the panels PAl, PA2, PA3 strong and stable in their dimensions, at temperatures considered normal (from -30 0 C to +7O 0 C) , allowing also an intensive use of the door PO, but at the same time maintaining its lightness.
- natural or chemical components such as for example animal or vegetable or chemical glues, or by plastic products
- Each of the panels PAl, PA2 , PA3 thus formed, in the case of exposure to fire on one side and/or on the other, progressively loses, by sublimation or melting or evaporation, for example, starting from the side exposed to the flames, part or all of the above components which give it mechanical solidity, but it keeps in position the fireproof fibres, which constitute the fire barrier, whereas the side not exposed to the flames reaches melting and/or sublimation or evaporation temperatures only after a certain period of time, which increases in relation to the formation of the panels, as follows, thus keeping the structure of the side exposed to the flames stable for the established time, even without the binder of the fireproof fibres.
- each of the panels PAl, PA2 , PA3 can be used as such, in a single piece or in various flanked panels, inserted or not inserted in a framework TE, as shown in detail in figure 2.
- each of the panels PAl, PA2, PA3 can be further reinforced in its fireproofing using one or more of the following technical solutions, indicated in detail, for illustrative and non-limiting purposes, in figures 3, 4 and 5 respectively, in which a preferred embodiment of a panel PA is shown.
- a filling is envisaged of the chambers CAl, CA2, CA3 with an expanding fireproof material of the known type, which allows the maximum lightness to be maintained and filling the chambers with fireproof foam which blocks the air and heat circulation, if a certain temperature is reached.
- the chambers CAl, CA2 CA3 with a more consistent but heavier fireproof material, such as for example, rock wool, which blocks the air circulation and limits (more or less depending on the consistency) the heat diffusion; in this case, as the material is heavier, it is necessary to add a perimetric and/or infra-perimetric frame COR, CORl, COR2 , made of a fireproof material, preferably of the type already described for the formation of the panels PA, outside the side FACl, maintaining the formation of the chamber CA4 with the outer superimposition of the frame COR of a further fireproof sheet Fl.
- a more consistent but heavier fireproof material such as for example, rock wool, which blocks the air circulation and limits (more or less depending on the consistency) the heat diffusion
- a perimetric and/or infra-perimetric frame COR, CORl, COR2 made of a fireproof material, preferably of the type already described for the formation of the panels PA, outside the side FACl, maintaining the formation of the chamber CA4
- the chamber CA4 is filled with another fireproof material LR, for example rock wool or known thermo-expanding fireproof materials.
- another fireproof material LR for example rock wool or known thermo-expanding fireproof materials.
- the fire-seal can be further reinforced with the application of a fireproof sheet F2 directly on the side, for example FAC2 , of the panel PA.
- a modular system is produced (see figures 3, 4 and 5) which allows exposure to fire of the panel PA with the simple sides FACl, FAC2 alone, or with the sides FACl, FAC2 protected by one or more of the devices indicated above, such as the use of the empty frame COR, positioned in the space which is created between the side FACl and the sheet Fl, added to the outside of the frame COR, the use of the frame COR with the fireproof material LR in the above-mentioned space, or the use of the simple fireproof sheet F2, positioned directly against the side FAC2 of the panel PA.
- the aim of adding further fireproof materials as described is to offer the fire, by possible disintegration with time under the action of the flames, an outer panel (for example the sheets Fl, F2 and optionally further sheets F3 , F4, visible in the embodiment of figure 5) , which isolates and protects until its possible disintegration and fracturing, the underlying part which is thus exposed integral to the fire, only after the possible disintegration and/or fracturing of the more external part, obtaining the desired prolonged fire barrier action with time.
- an outer panel for example the sheets Fl, F2 and optionally further sheets F3 , F4, visible in the embodiment of figure 5
- Figure 5 shows a vertical section of the panel PA, illustrating one of the possibilities offered by this system of creating further insertion labyrinths between each panel, by applying to the panel PA further sheets of fireproof material, Fl, F3 and F2, F4 , respectively, off- axis and positive and/or negative-stepped, also asymmetrically between the two sides and also in different quantities between the two sides .
- the fire barrier doors PO produced with the system described above can be of the rigid type and with a horizontal movement, such as that shown in figure 2, i.e. consisting of one or more adjacent panels PAl, PA2, PA3 wedge-inserted in each other, and inserted or not inserted in a frame TE of the known type .
- doors also preferably consist of a U-shaped draw-piece of fireproof materials joined to each other by components
- the structure is then supported by wheels Rl, R2 in suspension or sliding inside a rail ROT fixed by known means to the ceiling SOF or to the wall PAR, to allow lateral sliding.
- the door can rest on the wheels R3, R4 on the ground, sliding inside a rail or directly on the floor.
- the sliding of the door PO which can be effected either manually or by adequate motorization, terminates in a vertical seat SV applied, on one side, to the wall PAR, after the jamb ST of the opening (as shown in detail in figure 2) .
- the closing creates a labyrinth by means of a draw-piece PRI fixed to the end of the door panel, constructed so that its outer wing penetrates, when the door closes, inside another draw- piece PRD applied to the wall PAR, which has a cavity in which the draw-piece PRI is inserted forming a labyrinth, preferably consisting of a fireproof material held together by the above gluing materials .
- the draw-piece PRD can be protected with a fireproof panel ISL and, furthermore, the inside of the draw-piece PRD and draw- piece SV can be equipped with known thermo-expanding fireproof washers.
- the system described according to the invention can be analogously applied to fire barrier doors PO, whose opening takes place by the vertical lifting of the door panel (such as that illustrated in detail in figure 1) , normally by means of a specific motorization.
- the opening can be effected totally vertically, when there is sufficient upper space, using a single panel PAl or a series of overlying panels PAl, PA2, PA3 , held together by a frame TE analogous to that shown in figure 2 for the horizontal sliding door.
- FIG. 1 Another preferred embodiment of the door according to the invention, shown in figures 1 and 7, is the known embodiment of sectional doors, whereby at least two overlying panels PAl, PA2 , PA3 are produced, joined to each other by hinges CR2, CR3 , situated on both sides of the door PO, in correspondence with which wheels of the known type RU2, RU3 are positioned.
- Wheel-holder plates CB3 and wheels RUl are installed on the upper tops . Furthermore, a further two wheels RU4, applied on plates PC, are applied to the two lower tops, on which two metallic cables FU are hooked, which serve for lifting the door PO.
- the wheels RUl, RU2, RU3 , RU4 , the hinges CR2 , CR3 , the plate CB3 , the plate PC and the cables FU, shown only on one side in figure 1, are in reality also positioned on the opposite and facing side of the door PO.
- All the wheels RUl, RU2, RU3 , RU4 slide inside at least one vertical rail RT, and in this way all the facing wheels not shown slide on the opposite side in at least a second rail, facing the first, not shown in figure 1.
- Figure 7 is a vertical section of the door PO, applied to the wall PAR delimiting the opening AP, and shows a typical embodiment of vertical sliding of the door PO, with a folding beneath the ceiling SOF, which can be effected at any height thanks to articulated joints between the panels PAl, PA2, PA3 , with the wheels RUl, RU2, RU3, RU4 , which follow the path of the rails RT.
- a labyrinth (see the enlarged view of figure 8) , consisting of a draw-piece LAl, applied to the panel PA3 and formed so that its outer wing is downwardly folded back, entering the other opposite draw-piece LA2, applied to the architrave AT of the wall PAR, which preferably contains in its interior a thermo-expanding, fireproof washer IGl of the known type which expands, for temperature values higher than a certain threshold, blocking the passage of the air current and therefore the propagation of heat .
- an upper protection IS3 applied to the panel PA3 , made of a fireproof material, which closes the door PO towards the wall PAR leaving a minimum space for vertical sliding without friction, and/or a fireproof panel IS4 applied on the lower part of the section LA2 and on the lower part of the architrave AT, to protect the lower part of the labyrinth and in particular the draw-piece LA2.
- the protective fireproof panel IS3 moreover, has a width which is such that it provides an upper box- covering of the whole plan of the door PO, shown in figure 6, as far as the two vertical boxed protections ISl, IS2, above which an expanding fireproof washer is applied, which seals the opening as the temperature rises.
- another fireproof draw-piece IS5 is applied below the fireproof panel IS4 and against the architrave AT, which holds below and facing, in the side of the panel PA3 , a metallic draw-piece PM, having a very thin thickness and which is easily deformable, following the expansion of a thermo-expanding, fireproof washer IG2 applied between the above draw-piece PM and the fireproof draw-piece IS5.
- the washer IG2 which expands at a certain temperature and falls by gravity under the action of the heat in the systems of the known type, is contained, according to the invention, by the draw-piece PM, which the expansion of the washer IG2 deforms until contact against the panel PA3 , thus closing the path formed between the architrave AT and the panel PA3.
- the draw-piece PM consists of two pieces superimposed in their length, so as to relatively elongate by dilation, i.e. so that each crop of draw-piece dilates increasing the superimposition with the two adjacent crops, but remaining approximately with its original overall dimension; this is contrary to an absolute dilation, according to which a single draw- piece can be elongated, due to the heat and for the whole width of the space, even by 10%, warping and causing considerable side thrusts harmful for the fire barrier door PO.
- a further fireproof protection panel IS6 can be applied below the draw-piece PM.
- Figure 6 enclosed shows in detail, in a horizontal section, the wall PAR with the two jambs STl, ST2 delimiting the width of the opening AP, the panels PAl of which the door PO consists, the two side guiding rails RTl, RT2, in which the wheels RUl, RU2 and the subsequent wheels RU3 , RU4 , run and the lifting cables FUl, FU2.
- the rails RTl, RT2 are fixed to the wall PAR, by- means of metallic and preferably angular supports SUl, SU2 which must be protected, at least for more prolonged fire resistance, from the attack of flames.
- the supports SUl, SU2 and the rails RTl, RT2 are protected with the application of fireproof insulating panels ISl, IS2, which, in a preferred embodiment, envelop them in a box, leaving only a portion uncovered which is sufficient for preventing any contact between the panels PAl and the insulations ISl, IS2, when the door PO is upwardly open.
- the lower part of the door PO rests on the ground on at least one washer GUI, GU2 , preferably fixed to two side draw- pieces PRl, PR2 , which are preferably assembled separate to break the heat bridge, but optionally also joined to each other forming a single lower containment draw-piece, preferably made of fireproof material.
- GUI graphical2
- PRl side draw- pieces
- PR2 side draw- pieces
- AIl the joints between the panels PAl, PA2, PA3 , moreover, can be equipped with fireproof washers, which dilate with the heat and are incombustible, of the known type.
- thermo-expanding washers GT3 of the known type, can also be added to the lower side of the door PO, as shown in detail in figure 1.
