[0020] 光ディスク読み取り部 34は、メインプロセッサ 12及びサブプロセッサ 14a乃至 14h 力もの指示に従って、光ディスク 36に記憶されたプログラムやデータを読み取る。な お、エンタテインメントシステム 10は、光ディスク 36以外の他のコンピュータ読み取り 可能な情報記憶媒体に記憶されたプログラムやデータを読み取り可能に構成しても よい。
[0021] 光ディスク 36は例えば DVD— ROM等の一般的な光ディスク(コンピュータ読み取 り可能な情報記憶媒体)である。また、ハードディスク 38は一般的なハードディスク装 置である。光ディスク 36やハードディスク 38には各種プログラムやデータがコンビュ ータ読み取り可能に記憶される。
[0022] インタフェース(IZF) 40, 44は、コントローラ 42やカメラユニット 46等の各種周辺 機器を接続するためのインタフェースである。このようなインタフェースとしては、例え ば USB (Universal Serial Bus)インタフェースが用いられる。
[0023] コントローラ 42は汎用操作入力手段であり、ユーザが各種操作 (例えばゲーム操作 )を入力するために用いられる。入出力処理部 28は、所定時間(例えば 1Z60秒)ご とにコントローラ 42の各部の状態をスキャンし、その結果を表す操作信号をメインプロ セッサ 12やサブプロセッサ 14a乃至 14hに供給する。メインプロセッサ 12やサブプロ セッサ 14a乃至 14hは、ユーザによって行われた操作の内容をその操作信号に基づ いて判断する。なお、エンタテインメントシステム 10は複数のコントローラ 42を接続可 能に構成されており、各コントローラ 42から入力される操作信号に基づいて、メインプ 口セッサ 12やサブプロセッサ 14a乃至 14hが各種処理を実行するようになっている。
[0024] カメラユニット 46は、例えば公知のデジタルカメラを含んで構成され、白黒、グレイ スケール又はカラーの撮影画像を所定時間(例えば 1Z60秒)ごとに入力する。本実 施の形態におけるカメラユニット 46は、撮影画像を JPEG (Joint Photographic Expert s Group)形式の画像データとして入力するようになっている。また、カメラユニット 46 は、例えばレンズをプレイヤに向けた状態でモニタ 26の上に設置され、ケーブルを 介してインタフェース 44に接続される。ネットワークインタフェース 48は入出力処理部 28とインターネット等の通信ネットワークとに接続されており、エンタテインメントシステ ム 10が通信ネットワークを介して他のエンタテインメントシステム 10等のコンピュータ システムとデータ通信するのを中継するようになって 、る。
[0025] エンタテインメントシステム 10には、図 3に示すように、オペレーティングシステム 50 と、システムプログラム 52と、アプリケーションプログラム 54と、がインストールされてい る。オペレーティングシステム 50は、図示しない ROM又はハードディスク 38に記憶さ れるものであって、エンタテインメントシステム 10のブートプログラムや各種基本機能 のためのプログラムを含む。
[0026] システムプログラム 52も、図示しない ROM又はハードディスク 38に記憶されるもの であって、ユーザにより頻繁に使用される各種の一般的な機能のためのプログラムを 含んでいる。システムプログラム 52は、同図に示すように、常駐システムプログラム 52 aと複数の非常駐システムプログラム 52bとを含んでおり、前者はエンタテインメントシ ステム 10の起動時にメインメモリ 20に常駐し、後者は、ユーザの指示に応じて、或い は他のプログラムからの指示に応じて起動される。常駐システムプログラム 52aは、例 えば非常駐プログラム 52bの起動の指示をユーザが行うためのメニューを表示する 機能、各種のメッセージを表示する機能、エンタテインメントシステム 10の各種設定を 行うための機能を担うものである。一方、非常駐システムプログラム 52bは、ハードデ イスク 38や図示しない可搬型の記憶媒体の記憶内容の整理のためのプログラム、ソ フトウェアキーボードのためのプログラム、 Webブラウザのためのプログラム、通信ネ ットワークを介した他のユーザとのチャットのためのプログラム等である。
[0027] アプリケーションプログラム 54は、光ディスク 36やハードディスク 38に記憶されるも のであり、メインメモリ 20にロードされる。アプリケーションプログラム 54は、特定目的 のプログラムであり、ここではゲームプログラム 54aとする。
[0028] エンタテインメントシステム 10では、メインプロセッサ 12、サブプロセッサ 14a〜14h 、メインメモリ 20等の計算リソースを使用して、上記各プログラムを並列して実行する ようになつている。すなわち、オペレーティングシステム 50上で、常駐システムプログ ラム 52a、 1又は複数の非常駐システムプログラム 52b、ゲームプログラム 54aが同時 実行されるようになっている。
[0029] 常駐システムプログラム 52aは、図 4に示すように、共存プログラムリスト取得部 60、 メニュー選択部 62、起動準備部 64及び起動部 66としてエンタテインメントシステム 1 0を機能させる。
[0030] 共存プログラムリスト取得部 60は、ゲームプログラム 54aにより設定される共存プロ グラムリスト(並列実行条件情報)を取得するものである。共存プログラムリストは、複 数の非常駐システムプログラム 52bうちゲームプログラム 54aと並列して実行させるも のの条件を示すものであり、非常駐システムプログラム 52b毎にゲームプログラム 54a と並列して実行させてょ 、か否かの情報を含んで 、る。
[0031] メニュー選択部 62は、モニタ 26にメニュー画面を表示するとともに、コントローラ 42 力も入力される操作信号に従って、メニュー画面に表示された各非常駐システムプロ グラム 52bに関するアイコン画像の中から 1つを選択するものである。メニュー選択部 62は、メニュー画面を表示する際、共存プログラムリスト取得部 60により取得された 最新の共存プログラムリストを取得し、現在実行中のゲームプログラム 54aと並列して 実行させてよい非常駐システムプログラム 52bに関するアイコン画像のみをモニタ 26 に表示させ、その他の非常駐システムプログラム 52bに関するアイコン画像はモニタ 26に表示させない。これにより、共存プログラムリストによりゲームプログラム 54aと並 列実行させることが許可されて 、な 、とされる非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行 が指示され、実際に実行されることを制限するようにしている。
[0032] また、起動準備部 64は、メニュー選択部 62により選択される非常駐システムプログ ラム 52bの起動準備を行う。具体的には、選択された非常駐システムプログラム 52b の実行に必要な計算リソース (例えばメインメモリ 20等のメモリの使用量やメインプロ セッサ 12やサブプロセッサ 14a〜 14h等のプロセッサの使用量等)に関する計算リソ ース情報を含む起動申請をゲームプログラム 54aに通知する。計算リソース情報は、 例えば非常駐システムプログラム 52bの識別情報であり、この場合にはゲームプログ ラム 54a側で、識別情報力ゝら該識別情報により識別される非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行に必要な計算リソースを判断する。また、計算リソース情報は、選択された 非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行に必要な計算リソースそのものを示す情報であ つてよい。
[0033] ゲームプログラム 54aは、起動準備部 64により通知される計算リソース情報に従つ て、メニュー選択部 62により選択される非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行に必要 な計算リソースを開放するようになっており、起動部 66は、計算リソースの解放後、選 択された非常駐システムプログラム 52bを起動させる。このとき、ゲームプログラム 54a は、常駐システムプログラム 52aに対して、非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行結果 を示すウィンドウ等の画像の表示位置を示す表示位置データを渡すようになって 、る 。そして、選択された非常駐システムプログラム 52bを起動させる際、その表示位置 データを渡すようにして 、る。
[0034] 非常駐システムプログラム 54bは、ゲームプログラム 54aにより開放された計算リソ ースを使用して実行されるものであり、上記の表示位置データを取得すると、それに 応じた位置に実行結果を示す画像を表示する。
[0035] ゲームプログラム 54aは、図 5に示すように、起動申請受付部 70、開放リソース判断 部 72、リソース開放部 74、起動許可部 76、共存プログラムリスト設定部 78、ゲーム制 御部 80としてエンタテインメントシステム 10を機能させる。
[0036] 起動申請受付部 70は、常駐システムプログラム 52bから起動申請を受け取り、そこ に含まれる計算リソース情報 (非常駐システムプログラム 52bの識別情報)を開放リソ ース判断部 72に渡す。開放リソース判断部 72は、例えば図 6に示すようにして、非常 駐システムプログラム 52bの識別情報 (プログラム ID)と、該非常駐システムプロダラ ム 52bの実行に必要な計算リソースと、を関連づけて記憶しており、起動申請受付部 70から渡された計算リソース情報に対応する計算リソースをそこから読み出す。そし て、ゲーム制御部 80からゲームプログラム 54aが使用中の計算リソースを取得して、 両者に基づいて、ゲームプログラム 54aが開放すべき計算リソースを判断する。そし て、リソース開放部 74は、その量の計算リソースの開放をオペレーティングシステム 5 0に指示する。
[0037] 起動許可部 76は、リソース開放部 74による計算リソースの完了後に、常駐システム プログラム 52aに対して、選択された非常駐システムプログラム 52bの起動を許可す る旨の通知を行う。起動許可部 76は表示位置通知部 76aを含んでおり、ゲーム制御 部 80から表示画面のどの位置に非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行結果を表示し てよいかを示す表示位置データを取得し、これを通知に含めるようにしている。これに より、ゲームプログラム 54a側から、該ゲームプログラム 54aにより現在モニタ 26に表 示されている内容に応じて、非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行結果を表示してよ い表示画面の位置を判断し、それを指示できるので、ゲームプログラム 54aによる実 行結果のうち重要な部分が非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行結果により覆われる ことが無くなる。図 7 (a)は、非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行前のモニタ 26の表 示内容の一例を示しており、同図(b)は、非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行後の モニタ 26の表示内容の一例を示している。表示位置通知部 76aでは、ゲーム制御部 80により生成されるゲーム画面(同図(a) )の内容に応じて決定される、非常駐システ ムプログラム 52bの実行結果を示す画像 82を表示してよい領域を特定するデータ、 すなわち領域の隅を特定する位置 84a, 84bのデータを常駐システムプログラム 52a に通知するようにしている。
[0038] ゲーム制御部 80は、各種のゲームのプログラムを実行し、ゲーム画面をモニタ 26 に表示させたり、スピーカ 32からゲームの音楽や効果音を出力させたりするものであ る。共存プログラムリスト設定部 78は、共存プログラムリストを設定するものである。こ の共存プログラムリストは、例えばメニュー選択部 62によるメニュー表示時に該メ -ュ 一選択部 62により参照されるものである。共存プログラムリストは、ゲームプログラム 5 4aの起動時に設定されてもよいし、ゲーム制御部 80によりゲーム画面のレイアウトが 更新される毎に再設定されるようにしてもょ ヽ。
[0039] 図 8は、エンタテインメントシステム 10において、ゲームプログラム 54aの実行中に 非常駐システムプログラム 52bが起動される場合の動作を示すシーケンス図である。 同図に示すように、常駐システムプログラム 52aのメニュー選択部 62により非常駐シ ステムプログラム 52bの 1つが選択されると、そのプログラム IDがゲームプログラム 54 aに通知される(S101)。ゲームプログラム 54aでは、このプログラム IDに基づいて開 放すべき計算リソースを判断し、それを開放する(S102)。その後、常駐システムプロ グラム 52aに対して、表示位置データを含む起動許可を返信する(S103)。
[0040] 常駐システムプログラム 52aでは、この起動許可を受けて、オペレーティングシステ ム 50に、ユーザにより選択された非常駐システムプログラム 52bの起動を指示する( S 104)。この際、ゲームプログラム 54aから通知された表示位置データを引数として 渡す。オペレーティングシステム 50は、選択された非常駐システムプログラム 52bを 起動し(S 105)、その完了を常駐システムプログラム 52aに通知する(S106)。常駐 システムプログラム 52aでは、この通知を受けて、ゲームプログラム 54aに対して非常 駐システムプログラム 52bの起動完了を通知する(S107)。
[0041] 以上説明した実施形態によれば、ゲームプログラム 54aにより共存プログラムリスト を設定し、これにより非常駐システムプログラム 52bの起動のためのメニューが変更さ れ、ユーザはゲームプログラム 54aと並列して実行することが望ましくな 、非常駐シス テムプログラム 52bの起動を指示できなくなる。これにより、こうした非常駐システムプ ログラム 52bの実行が制限されるようになり、ゲームプログラム 54aが安定的に動作す るようにでさる。
[0042] また、ゲームプログラム 54aの実行中に非常駐システムプログラム 52bを起動させる 場合に、ゲームプログラム 54aが必要量だけ計算リソースを開放するようにできるので 、ゲームプログラム 54aにて十分な計算リソースを使用することができる。これにより、 エンタテインメントシステム 10の計算リソースの効率的利用が図れる。
[0043] また、ゲームプログラム 54aの実行中に、該ゲームプログラム 54aとの並列実行が望 ましくない非常駐システムプログラム 52bが起動されることを制限できる。さらに、ゲー ムプログラム 54aの実行結果の表示中に非常駐システムプログラム 52bの実行結果 の表示が加えられる場合に、その表示位置を適正化できる。
[0044] なお、本発明は上記実施形態に限定されるものではな ヽ。例えば、非常駐システム プログラム 52bの実行中に、さらにゲームプログラム 54aを起動する場合、起動前に、 例えば常駐システムプログラム 52aがゲームプログラム 54aに関するデータ(例えば 光ディスク 36に記憶されているファイル)の中から共存プログラムリストを取得し、その 共存プログラムリストにより、ゲームプログラム 54aとの並列実行が許可されていない 非常駐システムプログラム 52bが現在実行中でな ヽかを調べるようにしてょ 、。そして 、そのような非常駐システムプログラム 52bが実行中であれば、常駐システムプロダラ ム 52aが該非常駐システムプログラム 52bを終了させた後、ゲームプログラム 54aを 起動する。この際、ゲームプログラム 54aに、実行中の(終了させられな力つた)非常 駐システムプログラム 52bの識別情報を通知すれば好適である。
[0045] なお、非常駐システムプログラム 52bを終了させる場合に、ユーザの意思確認の入 力をさせて、これに応じて実際に終了させるようにしてもよい。この場合、ユーザが、 共存プログラムリストによりゲームプログラム 54aとの並列実行が許可されていない非 常駐システムプログラム 52bの終了を希望しなかった場合、ゲームプログラム 54aの 起動を取りやめる。
[0046] 以上のようにすれば、ゲームプログラム 54aを起動する場合に、該ゲームプログラム 54aとの並列実行が望ましくない非常駐システムプログラム 52bを停止させることがで き、ゲームプログラム 54aを安定的に動作させることができるようになる。
[0047] なお、共存プログラムリストに基づいて、現在実行中の非常駐システムプログラム 52 bと該共存プログラムリストに係るゲームプログラム 54aとの並列実行が許可されてい ないと判断される場合に、ゲームプログラム 54aの起動を制限 (禁止)してもよい。この 場合、ゲームプログラム 54aの起動のためのユーザインタフェース、例えばゲームプ ログラム 54aの起動を指示するためのアイコン画像の表示を制限する等して、該ユー ザインタフエースを用いたゲームプログラム 54aの起動指示を制限してもよ 、。或 、は 、ゲームプログラム 54aの起動の指示をユーザ力も受け付けた後、該ゲームプロダラ ム 54aに係る共存プログラムリストに基づいてその起動が許可されないと判断される 場合には、その旨のメッセージを出力して、起動を取りやめてもよい。

[1] 第 1のプログラム及び第 2のプログラムを並列して実行させるプログラム実行手段と 前記プログラム実行手段による実行結果を表示画面に表示する表示手段と、を含 み、
前記第 1のプログラムは、
前記表示画面における位置を示す表示位置データを前記第 2のプログラムに通知 する通知手段としてコンピュータを機能させ、
前記第 2のプログラムは、
前記表示位置データを取得する取得手段、及び
実行結果を前記表示画面における前記表示位置データに応じた位置に表示させ る表示制御手段として前記コンピュータを機能させる、
ことを特徴とする情報処理システム。
[2] 請求の範囲第 1項に記載の情報処理システムにおいて、
前記通知手段は、前記表示画面に表示される該第 1のプログラムの現在の実行結 果の内容に応じて、前記第 2のプログラムに通知する前記表示位置データを変更す る、
ことを特徴とする情報処理システム。
[3] 第 1のプログラム及び第 2のプログラムを並列して実行させるプログラム実行手段と 前記プログラム実行手段による実行結果を表示画面に表示する表示手段と、を含 むコンピュータの制御方法であって、
前記第 1のプログラムに従って、前記表示画面における位置を示す表示位置デー タを生成するステップと、
前記第 2のプログラムに従って、前記表示位置データを取得するステップと、 前記第 2のプログラムの実行結果を、前記表示画面における前記表示位置データ に応じた位置に表示させるステップと、
を含むことを特徴とするコンピュータの制御方法。
