Definitions

  • the present invention refers, in general, to an improved dental device . More specifically, the invention concerns a dental device, complete with absorbent rolls and saliva- suction cannula, able to be used by the dentist during an intervention, in order to clear the area in which he is preparing to operate from saliva, from tongue motion and from cheek mucous membrane.
  • Dental interventions represent operative practice, which carries out delicate treatments in the part of the body - the mouth - that is at once restricted, delicate and hypersensitive. Indeed, it is simultaneously an organ for breathing, feeding and speaking and its inner tissues are a concentration of blood vessels and cells, which ensure that the oral cavity is always kept wet and free from foreign bodies. It is clear that, in these conditions, the work of the dentist, when he tries to introduce different types of instruments or utensils into the oral cavity to treat or remove bad teeth, is complex and has high risk. All of this, in particular, considering the fact that, in such situations, the mouth's protection mechanisms are stimulated to act in its defence, causing hyperactivity of the salivary glands and convulsive movement of the tongue .
  • Cotton rolls consist of small cylinders of sterilised cotton, which are placed at the base of the gums and that are used to keep the cheeks away from the tooth being operated upon, whereas the "dental dam” uses a metal hook, locked onto the tooth cervix, which holds a sheet of latex, covering the entire open mouth of the patient, apart from the area corresponding to that of the tooth being operated upon.
  • the purpose of the present invention is to avoid the aforementioned drawbacks, i.e. that of making an improved dental device, which is easy and intuitive to use and that achieves all of the required performance needs during a dental intervention, currently carried out, furthermore in an insufficient manner, by many conventional devices.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to make an improved dental device, which is anatomical and comfortable for the patient and that is easy and quick to position, even without specific tools.
  • a further purpose of the present invention is to make an improved dental device in a simple and cost- effective manner, with respect to known devices.
  • the dental device object of the invention lends itself to being produced in single-use and disposable packs and is very quick and simple to apply, as well as anatomical and comfortable for the patient.
  • the aforementioned device is extremely cost- effective, compared to conventional devices, also in consideration of the advantages achieved. Further characteristics and advantages of an improved dental device, according to the present invention, shall become clearer from the following description of a preferred, but not limiting, example embodiment, referring to the attached schematic drawings, in which:

  • the improved dental device made according to the present invention, is generically indicated with 1.
  • the dental device 1 is shaped according to what is illustrated in the attached figures and can be made entirely from flexible metal wire, consisting of a single metal or a metal alloy, or else flexible plastic material, even only partially, or else metal wire coated with soft and flexible material, which can be used as hygienic, anti-lesion, anti-allergy material, etc.
  • the metal or plastic material can have whatever section (round, square, rectangular, flat or knife-shaped, etc.) and, moreover, the device can consist of a single twisted flexible wire, as illustrated in the example embodiment of the attached figure 1, or of many segments of flexible wire, twisted and welded together, as illustrated in the example embodiment of the attached figure 2.
  • the improved dental device 1, object of the present invention in a first way of use, illustrated in the attached figures 1-8, has, on one side, a loop 25, intended to house a saliva-suction cannula 73 (as shown in detail in figures 7 and 8) , and, on the opposite side to the loop 25, a hook-shaped element 23, suitable for housing at least one "cotton roll” 74 (figures 7-8) .

  • Figures 5 and 6 illustrate a further way of application of the improved dental device 1, object of the invention, which makes use of dental pincers 51 with fixed or variable pitch, suitable for opening out the lower corners of the central structure 52, through the insertion of the ends 53 of the pincers 51 inside the respective seats 22 of the structure 52 (figure 5) . Also in this case, the application of the dental device 1 through the pincers 51 ensures that the central structure 52 of the device 1 sticks to the walls of the tooth 41 and not to the tissues, thus obtaining a strong hold given by the dental undercut and, at the same time, avoiding any damage to the gum and tissues below (figure 6) .
  • the dental device 1 is completed with the insertion of the saliva-suction cannula 73 inside the loop 25, as illustrated in detail in figures 7 and 8; in this way, the locking in position of the cannula 73 is also ensured, thanks to the locking force of the central structure 52 of the device 1 around the tooth 41, since the same structure of the device 1 ensures the stable housing of the aforementioned saliva-suction cannula 73.
  • the hook- shaped element 23 for holding and containing the "cotton rolls" 74 and the loop 25, inside which the saliva-suction cannula 73 is inserted are formed on the structure of the device 1, so as to each stay on opposite sides of the aforementioned structure and, consequently, on opposite sides of the patient's teeth, for greater ease of operation.
  • the absorbent "cotton rolls" 74 are present on both sides of the structure of the device 1, which, in this case, foresees two hook-shaped elements 23, positioned laterally, on either side, to the central structure 52; in this case, the saliva-suction cannula 73 can be positioned and supported manually inside the patient's oral cavity.
