  • This invention relates to a refuse container. More particularly, but not exclusively, this invention relates to a liquid and/or refuse container.
  • Spills of waste liquid may also result in stained carpets and some structural corrosion in aircraft cabins. It is therefore desirable that a container suitable for the disposal of liquid waste, and for the hermetic storage thereof, be designed.

  • the container may be foldable to accommodate storage and transport of multiple units thereof in confined spaces.

  • the blank 20 further includes handling apertures 70, which are located on each of the opposing side walls 40, or in an alternative embodiment on each of the opposing end walls 50, to facilitate handing of the container 10.
  • Securing tabs 150 are included on the side wall panels for engagement between lid panel and lid inner panels 140 when folded.
  • the blank includes waterproofing sections 160 which are folded into the container to define a waterproof tray at the bottom of the container formed by the bottom panel and lower sections of the side walls 40 and end walls 50.
  • the insides and/or outsides of the walls of the container 10 are coated with Hydroban® in order to further improve the liquid impermeability of the container 10.
  • the container forms a receptacle for receiving waste or refuse liquid.
  • the container 10 also includes an inner bladder in the form of a plastic bag 80. It is within this bag 80 that the liquid refuse will be converted at least partially into a more solid state to facilitate its handling and ultimate disposal.
  • the bag 80 may conveniently be stored within the container 10 before assembling. On assembling the blank into its folded position, the open end of the bag 80 is drawn from within the container 10 and through the dispensing aperture 60, where it may then be folded over the operative upper surface 100 of the container 10 and down the sides of the container and secured thereto in an open condition by securing means.
  • the securing means takes the form of an elastic band 90.
  • the container and/or the bag 80 may also be bio-degradable.
  • the elasticised band 90 may be disengaged from the assembly, and used to secure the open end of the bag 80 in a closed condition.
  • a sachet 110 containing a waste management agent or a liquid refuse solidifying agent 120.
  • the sachet 110 is made from a water-soluble material. On decanting liquid refuse into the bag 80, the sachet 110 dissolves, releasing its contents to make contact with the liquid refuse.
  • the waste management agents 120 used in different embodiments of the invention include solidifying agents, absorbing agents, and a combination of solidifying agents and absorbing agents.
  • Preferred waste management agents 120 include the products known conventionally in the industry as FAVOR PACTM 230 and FAVOR PACTM 100.
  • the active ingredient in the former is cross-linked sodium polyacrylate, while the active ingredient in the latter is a blend of polyacryclic acid/polyacrylic alcohol grafted copolymers.
  • Both FAVOR PACTM 230 and FAVOR PACTM 100 are composed inter alia of superabsorbent polymers which solvate in the presence of water. Owing to the cross-linking of these polymers, the formation of a gel is the resultant product formed between these polymers and the water-based liquid with which it comes into contact.
  • the waste management agent 120 has a pH of 6.0 ⁇ 0.5 at 1.0 g/lin 0.9% NaCI.
  • the sachet preferably has a thickness of 40 microns, which is sufficiently thick to accommodate the storage of liquid and gel therein. Testing was conducted on the waste management agent 120 in the presence of various liquids. Specifically, experiments were conducted to determine the required ratio of waste management agent 120 to particular liquids. The following results were recorded:
  • the waste management agent is present in the range of 1% - 5% by volume in the container 10.
  • the waste management agent should fill 2% of the container by volume.
  • the ratio of liquid storage capacity to container volume is efficient when in the range of 0.001 m 3 : 1 litre to 0.02 m 3 : 1 litre.
  • the maximum ratio of liquid storage capacity : container volume is 0.01 m 3 : 1 litre.

Abstract

L'invention porte sur un contenant pour déchets (10) qui comprend: un réceptacle (10) destiné au stockage de déchets liquides; et un sachet (110) fabriqué dans un matériau soluble dans les liquides et contenant un agent de gestion des déchets (120), le matériau soluble dans les liquides étant conçu pour se dissoudre au contact avec un liquide afin de libérer l'agent de gestion des déchets (120) du sachet (110) et solidifier les déchets liquides au moins partiellement à l'intérieur du contenant (10).
