  • the present invention refers to an anti-vandal fabric, which can be used to upholster seats for public or private transport vehicles, for public locals or any- suitable use.
  • These anti-vandal fabrics can be used in seats for public or private transport vehicles, in public locals, such as, e.g. cinemas and theatres, or in household items, such as, e.g. canopies.
  • One of such anti-vandal fabrics comprises an upper layer which is adhered to a lower layer formed by metallic yarns.
  • This kind of fabric shows the drawback that it is very rigid, its subsequent handling being very complicated, e.g. to upholster a seat. This is because metallic yarns are used with a diameter from 0.5 to 0.6 mm. In some cases, these metallic yarns can be substituted by yarns of a very hard plastic material. However, the use of this plastic material does not solve neither the rigidity problem of the fabric nor the vandal resistance .

  • the metallic yarns are knitted in weft 3a and warp 3b, as can be seen in Fig. 2.
  • the percentage of metallic yarns 3a, 3b with respect to the total yarns in the lower layer 3 is from 10% to 80%, depending on the features to obtain.
  • Said metallic yarns 3a, 3b can be of stainless steel, carbon steel or cupper, even though preferably will be of stainless steel.
  • each metallic yarn 3a, 3b is from 0.05 mm and 0.35 mm, i.e. they are of a lower diameter than usual metallic yarns used in known anti-vandal fabrics, which it is usually from 0.5-0.6 mm.
  • Said metallic yarns 3a, 3b are knitted with the yarns of the upper layer 2 in any suitable way, such as e.g. shed, double shed, jacquard, double jacquard or flat knitting. If it is desired, said metallic yarns 3a, 3b can be covered, e.g. by cotton or wool yarns.
  • the fabric of the present invention is very flexible, compared with the conventional anti-vandal fabrics, and forms a barrier against fire. Even though reference is made to a specific embodiment of the invention, it is apparent for a person skilled in the art that the disclosed anti-vandal fabric is susceptible of several variations and modifications, and that all of said details can be substituted by other technically equivalent ones, without departing from the scope defined by the attached claims.
