Definitions
- the present invention is in the general field of containers, in particular bottles, made of thermoplastic material such as PET, manufactured by blow molding or stretch-blow molding of a heated preform, and it relates more specifically to improvements made to those of these containers.
- which have a bottom which is convex in the general shape of a spherical cap with concavity turned towards the outside of the container and which defines an annular base, said bottom having reinforcing impressions projecting towards the inside of the container and radiating around a central recess or central chimney, said indentations having a generally trapezoidal shape with a small side located towards the center of the bottom of the container, a large side located towards the periphery of the bottom of the container, and a bottom which constitutes the arch of the imprint .
- bottles intended to contain table water are, in most cases, provided with a domed bottom generally spherical cap with concavity turned outwards and relatively low height.
- Such bottoms are often provided with radiating ribs distributed around a central recess, said ribs being able to present various conformations and possibly being able to overflow on the bottom of the wall of the body in order to reinforce the seat (peripheral zone by which the bottom rests on a support).
- the height of funds of this kind, including central recess is typically of the order of 10 mm, and can be up to 15 mm.
- Such bottoms are shaped to support without deformation the column of flat liquid which overcomes them.
- This small quantity of inert substance finishes to vaporize once the capping is complete, so that there remains in the closed container of the inerting gas under a low residual pressure of less than 2 ⁇ 10 5 Pa, typically of the order of 1 ⁇ 10 5 Pa, or of the order of 0.5x10 s Pa.
- the slightly curved bottoms traditionally provided for containers for flat liquids are not able to withstand with certainty, without deformation, a pressure as low as that mentioned above.
- more resilient funds such as Champagne funds, their high resistance and the additional cost associated with them appear excessive for the intended application.
- the invention aims to provide an improved convex bottom conformation for clean containers to be filled with flat and closed liquids in the presence of a relatively low pressure not exceeding 2x10 5 Pa, and more generally of the order of 1x1O 5 Pa, requiring only a minimum of thermoplastic material, easy to conform correctly under the usual conditions of blow molding or stretch-blow molding containers for flat liquids, and having a height of the same order of size than traditional container bottoms for flat liquids.
- a container arranged as mentioned in the preamble is characterized, being arranged according to the invention, in that the indentations comprise respective arches which form concave trapezoidal sectors concavity turned towards the inside of the concavity of the aforesaid spherical cap formed by said bottom of the container (ie turned towards the outside of the container) and extend from the seat to the central recess by connecting thereto in the immediate vicinity of the upper end of the central recess .
- a bottom arranged according to the invention has a double curved panel structure, both as regards the panels defined between the protruding impressions in the bottom of the container itself and as regards the vaults of said indentations with a double concavity of the same orientation facing the outside of the container.
- a double system of two-stage buttressing which, without being able to withstand high pressures, is nevertheless able to withstand, without significant deformation, a relatively low residual pressure not exceeding approximately 2 ⁇ 10 5 Pa, such as that which remains after an operation of inerting 1.
- the arches of the indentations have a variable curvature, greater towards the seat than towards the central recess.
- said panels defined between the protrusions in the bottom of the container are provided with at least one respective radiating rib; in a concrete embodiment, there is provided a single radiating rib on each bottom panel.
- the ribs are substantially straight, that advantageously they are concavity facing outwardly and that preferably their inner end is located at a distance from the central recess, in other words that the ribs extend radially only over part of the gap between the seat and the central recess (eg about half of this gap) from the seat.
- it can provide, instead of ribs, reinforcing reliefs having any other desired shape (eg triangular).
- the ribs may extend only on the bottom to the vicinity of the base thereof or, alternatively, that they extend beyond the seated and go up on the bottom of the body of the container if it is desirable to strengthen the seat.
- the bottom is generally round and the footprints are distributed angularly equidistantly.
- the impressions are in number between 3 and 8.
- FIG. 1 is a view from above of a preferred embodiment of a container bottom arranged in accordance with the invention
- FIG. 2 is a side view of the bottom of a container equipped with the bottom of FIG. 1 (the lateral wall of the container being only suggested),
- FIG. 3 is a perspective view of three "shifts from above the bottom shown in Figure 1, and
- FIG. 4 is a side view of an alternative embodiment of the bottom of a container arranged according to the invention.
- reference numeral 1 generally denotes a container, such as a bottle, made of a thermoplastic material such as PET and manufactured by blow molding or stretch blow molding of a heated preform.
- the container 1 comprises a base 2 which is curved in the general shape of a spherical cap concavity turned towards the outside of the container (it is therefore the convex face of this bottom which is seen in FIG. 1) and which defines a ring base 10, that is to say an annular portion of the bottom by which it rests on a support.
- Bottom 2 has reinforcement footprints 3, protruding inwardly of the container and radiating around a recess 4 central or central chimney.
- the footprints 3 have a generally short trapezoidal shape with a short side located towards the center of the bottom and a long side located towards the seat 10 of the bottom.
- the small side of each imprint 3 of approximately trapezoidal shape is, in the illustrated example, very small in size so that the imprint has a generally triangular shape with a top located towards the center.
- the footprints 3 delimit between them bottom panels 5 which are also of generally approximately trapezoidal shape with a small side located towards the center of the bottom and a large side located towards the seat.
- the panels 5, being portions of the bottom I 1 are curved as can be seen clearly in Figures 2 and 3.
- the arches 6 of the cavities 3 form concavely trapezoidal trapezoidal sectors facing towards the inside of the concavity of the aforesaid spherical cap formed by the bottom 2 of the receptacle.
- Such an arrangement provides a reinforced mechanical strength that allows the bottom to be able to withstand without significant deformation that the container is filled with a flat liquid under a low overpressure not exceeding about 2x10 5 Pa, and in practice of the order of 0, 5 to IxIO 5 Pa, as is the case for example following an inerting or pressurizing operation to stiffen the container.
- such a container bottom can be made without sensitive localized thickenings, that is, it can be formed in substantially the same molding conditions as standard bottoms.
- the height h of a container bottom 2 arranged according to the invention can be of the same order of magnitude as that of a standard container bottom for flat liquid, that is to say of the order of 10 to 15 mm for a container such as a bottle with a diameter of 50 to 70 mm.
- the cavities 3 of the bottom 2 are separated by panels 5 which can be provided with at least one respective rib 8 radiating; in practice, to facilitate the correct forming of the bottom 2, there is only one rib 8 radiating in each panel 5.
- the ribs 8 are substantially rectilinear and advantageously they are concavity facing outwards, as shown in Figures 1 to 3.
- the reinforcement of the panels 5 can be obtained by means of reliefs having other shapes (for example triangular reliefs) ).
- the ribs 8 extend over the entire gap between the seat 10 and the recess 4 central: in the embodiment illustrated in the accompanying figures, the ribs 8 extend only on a part of the aforesaid interval (about half of this interval in the configuration shown) and the end of the ribs 8 located radially inwardly is away from the central recess 4.
- the ribs 8 extend to the vicinity of the seat 10 or, alternatively, that they extend beyond of the seat 10 and back on the bottom of the body 9 of the container 1 as shown in Figure 4, the latter provision for the purpose of strengthening the seat 10.
- a common, although not exclusive, application of the provisions of the invention is generally generally cylindrical containers of revolution such as bottles: the bottom 2 is then generally round in shape as shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 and in this case the cavities 3 are distributed angularly equidistantly.
- the fingerprints are in number between 3 and 8, the concrete examples shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 comprising five imprints 3 alternating with five bottom panels.
