Definitions
- the invention relates to an airbag of an airbag module according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Passive safety technology in motor vehicles is known to include airbag devices whose gas bag is inflated abruptly in an accident to protect the inmates displaced by delay forward or sideways from injury.
- the prior art shows a variety of solutions in which tethers are arranged within the airbag, which influence the propagation direction and the degree of propagation of the airbag.
- tethers that have tear seams, a gradual deployment of the airbag can be realized.
- DE 297 07 162 U1 shows an airbag which propagates with an impact section from an outlet opening of the airbag module in the direction of an occupant.
- tethers are fastened in the outlet direction, which tear when a certain internal pressure prevailing inside the airbag is exceeded, so that the airbag can continue to deploy.
- the tether arrangement described in DE 297 07 162 U1 causes, in particular, the risk of injury for a so-called "out-of-position" occupant to be reduced since the gas bag in a first deployment stage receives a volume reduced by the tethers inside the gas bag, the tear seams fail so that the gas bag can develop to its full size.
- It is therefore an object of the invention is to provide an airbag for an airbag module with early retention, in the same time load peaks are reduced.
- the invention relates to a tether for constricting the gas bag during deployment.
- the tether which can be extended by at least one longitudinal section when a specific internal pressure prevailing inside the gas bag is exceeded, a greater depth of the gas bag between the outlet opening and the impact section facing the occupant can be achieved even with a smaller gas bag volume.
- the tether is arranged such that the volume of the airbag while maintaining a minimum distance between the outlet opening of the gas bag and the
- the occupant facing impact section Exits outlet opening, the occupant facing impact section. That is, by the tether the volume of the airbag to be filled is initially kept small, the special arrangement of the tether from the beginning of the deployment process ensures a minimum distance between the outlet opening of the airbag and the impact section. The occupant can be held back early.
- the transverse to the direction of action or deployment direction of the airbag arranged tether that limits the initial volume of the airbag.
- the effective or unfolding direction of the gas bag here is to be understood as the direction which is directed against the expected direction of movement of the occupant in the event of an impact. If the occupant dives into the gas bag in the further course of the impact, tear seams tear, for example, so that lateral volume can be released.
- a primary object of the invention is to filter out load peaks, that is to keep the load of the occupant at a constant level. This is done by an extension of the tether occurs when a certain internal pressure is exceeded and thereby reduced by increasing the volume of the pressure. As a result, the pressure inside the gas bag is influenced by the tether. When the specific internal pressure prevailing within the gas bag is exceeded, the tether extends for at least one longitudinal section, for example by tearing a tear seam, so that the volume of the tearing seam increases Airbags can continue to enlarge. The tearing should not be abrupt, otherwise the pressure inside the gas bag would suddenly drop.
- the extension of the tether is characteristic or pressure controlled, so that on the prevailing internal pressure, the extension of the tether can be influenced. The extension of the tether in turn affects the volume of the airbag, whereby a feedback to the pressure within the airbag takes place.
- the tether extends approximately parallel to the plane of the outlet opening within the gas bag. As a result, a constriction is achieved transversely to the outlet direction of the gas bag. When extending the tether so that the effective range of the airbag can be increased far beyond the outlet opening.
- the tether can be glued.
- An additional advantage is that further energy is absorbed when tearing open.
- a plurality of seams may be provided.
- the seams may also have a different length or size and thereby fail at different pressures.
- the tear or adhesive seam can be arranged in the middle of the tether. It can also be provided on the edge of the gas bag. There it can be combined with an outflow opening for the outflow of the gas. Such outflow openings are also called "Venthole”.
- the tether covers an outflow opening so that it is closed at the beginning of the filling of the gas bag. Only when a certain internal pressure is exceeded, give the tethers and thereby release the openings. As a result, the gas bag keeps its high pressure level longer and adapts itself to the desired pressure level only when the occupant is submerged.
- the tear seams - if there are several - must then be coordinated so that they tear each other and in each case at the right time.
- Fig. 1 a cross section through an airbag of a
- Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of a steering wheel 1 in a motor vehicle, not shown.
- the steering wheel 1 is equipped with an airbag module, of which only a filled airbag 2 is shown in the illustration.
- the other components of the airbag module such as the gas generator or the airbag flaps are not shown for clarity.
- the gas bag 2 occurs after activation of an outlet opening 3 of the steering wheel in the direction of the Steering wheel opposite sitting occupant 4, of which the head 5 is shown here, and unfolds according to its geometry.
- a tether 6 is fastened with its two ends 7 and 8 on the inside 2a of the airbag 2. Approximately in the middle, the tether 6 is placed in a loop 9, which is fixed by means of a tear seam 10, so that a shortened length 1 of the tether 6 and thus a constricted airbag 2 results in a reduced volume.
- the tear seam 10 fails, as a result of which the gas bag 2 can continue to unfold into the shape shown in dashed lines, while still maintaining the distance h between the impact section 2b opposite the occupants 4, 5 and the outlet opening 3 As a result, the occupant 4, 5 is always intercepted independently of the length 1 of the tether 6 at a minimum distance from the steering wheel 1.
- FIG. 2 A possible arrangement of tear seams 10 in the tether 6 is shown in FIG. 2, which fail due to their different lengths at different internal pressures.
