Abstract

In order to detect a deficit in the attention of a driver of a moving vehicle, a control circuit intervenes, without actively engaging the driver, with the steering wheel and/or with the braking system of the vehicle, in order to correct the direction of travel thereof (S10), and an attention deficit is detected (S11) when the driver does not steer the vehicle in the predetermined manner. The position of the motor vehicle on a lane which said vehicle drives along is continuously monitored (S1, S5) in order to detect an imminent deviation of the lane, and engagement of the steering wheel (S10) only takes place when an imminent deviation of the lane is displayed during monitoring.
