Description

The invention relates to a water pump for an internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1. It is known to design water pumps of internal combustion engines as separate components which require a large amount of space and require corresponding connections. The object of the invention is to provide a water pump for an internal combustion engine which can be accommodated as space-saving as possible. This object is achieved in accordance with the features of claim 1. Due to the fact that the water pump comprises a housing which accommodates the water pump components and which fits into the intermediate area of chain drive components and between the cylinder crankcase and chain case, the water pump cannot essentially be in one accommodate used space and thus save space. It is essentially integrated in the area between the cylinder crankcase and chain case, only its drive wheel, generally a pulley, is to be arranged on the outside of the chain case. The fact that the housing has a cylindrical receiving space for the water pump components, the housing receiving a preassembled water pump insert comprising the water pump components in its cylindrical receiving space, the water pump can also be easily assembled and disassembled. Further embodiments of the invention can be found in the following description and the subclaims. The invention is explained below with reference to an embodiment shown in the accompanying figures. Fig. 1 shows in section a water pump for an internal combustion engine. FIG. 2 shows a water pump insert for the water pump of FIG. 1 in section. FIG. 3 shows the arrangement of the water pump of FIG. 1 on the internal combustion engine. The water pump shown in FIG. 1 comprises a housing 1 which is fastened by means of screws 2 to an end wall 4 of a cylinder crankcase of an internal combustion engine facing a chain case 3 with the interposition of sealing rings 5. The chain case 3 is supported on the end of the housing 1 facing away from the end wall 4. In the end wall 4, a leakage hole 6 for leakage water can be made, which opens between the sealing rings 5. This can prevent 5 if leakage of the inner sealing ring 5 leak water can get into the oil space of the internal combustion engine, since this is discharged through the leakage hole 6 into the environment outside the internal combustion engine. Damage to the internal combustion engine can thus be avoided and at the same time the malfunction of the inner sealing ring 5 can be indicated. The housing 1 receives in its cylindrical bore 7 a preassembled water pump insert 8 shown in FIG. 2, which comprises an insert housing 9 which has a flange 10 which is screwed to the housing 1 by screws 11 (with washers 12) with the housing 1 under tight clamping the chain case 3 is screwed. On the side facing the chain case 3, the flange 10 has an annular groove for receiving an axial sealing ring 13. The slide-in housing 9 receives a water pump shaft 15, which is mounted in the slide-in housing 9 via a water pump bearing 16 (for example a combined ball and roller bearing without an inner shell) , at its outwardly projecting end a drive wheel 17, here designed as a pulley, and at its end facing the end wall 4 carries an impeller 18. Between the water pump shaft 15 and the slide-in housing 9, a water pump seal arrangement 19 is provided adjacent to the impeller 18. An inflow and an outflow channel 20 or 21, which are formed between the housing 1 and the end wall 4, opens into the chamber of the housing 1 occupied by the impeller 18. On the side facing away from the flange 10, the slide-in housing 9 has an encircling annular groove for receiving a radial sealing ring 14 for sealing against the inflow and outflow channels 20 and 21 after assembling the chain case 3 inserted and fastened. Accordingly, it is also possible later to remove the water pump insert 8 again without impairment by the chain case 3, for example for repair purposes, since the outer diameter of the impeller 18 is smaller than the diameter of the bore 7 of the housing 1. As can be seen from FIG. 3, there are 3 sprockets 22, 22 'in the chain case (not shown), of which the sprocket 22 can be driven by the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine, while the sprocket 22' drives an injection pump, for example. The chain 23 guided around the chain wheels 22 is by means of a chain tensioner 24 tensioned and guided by means of a chain guide 25. The housing 1 arranged in the area between the end wall 4 and the chain case 3 is positioned and constructed in such a way that it receives the water pump insert 8 in such a way that it fits with the housing 1 into the space between the chain runs. The impeller 18, not shown in FIG. 3, is located behind the chain 23 in the representation of FIG , Despite the water pump insert 8 comprising the impeller 18, the latter can be dismantled without dismantling the chain case 3 or the housing 1, for example to renew the water pump bearing 16 and / or the water pump seal arrangement 19.
