Definitions
- the present invention relates to a stack of container assemblies.
- a container assembly can comprise an egg box, but it should be understood that other container assemblies for holding other foods and/or utility objects also fall within the scope of the invention.
- Such container assemblies may be made of plastic, molded fiber material, cardboard-like material and the like.
- Such container assemblies are conveyed stacked in each other, preferably in the open position, to a station where the products are placed in the bottom part, after which the top part, which acts as a lid, is placed on the bottom part. It is important here that the packs do not stick in each other.
- such assemblies will be of a slightly relieved design. Such a relieved shape often gives rise to sticking of packs if said packs are stacked in each other. In order to avoid this problem, denesting features are proposed in the prior art.
- lugs and the like which prevent the packs from being fully pressed into each other and subsequently not being easy to separate at the packing station.
- egg boxes it is known to provide denesting features on the sides.
- Such egg boxes are made by shaping molded fiber material on a mold and drying it, and the denesting features concerned consist of a local thickening of the molded fiber material.
- the lugs In order to make such denesting features effective, the lugs must be of reasonable width. This means that the molded fiber material must be reasonably thick. This thickness is substantially greater than the thickness of the material at other positions.
- US-A-3670952 discloses a denesting feature consisting of an indentation with a part extending back to the original periphery and a subsequent further indentation. During the stacking a wall part rests with the indentation of a first container assembly on the further indentation of the mouth part of the next container assembly.
- Such a denesting feature consisting of two indentations is complicated to produce and does not have a very attractive appearance. It is the object of the present invention to provide a container assembly with denesting feature which does not have these disadvantages. Such a denesting feature should be suitable for use both with molded fiber material and with cardboard-like material and plastic material.
- each container assembly comprises a bottom part and a top part, which parts are hingedly connected to each other at the rear side and opposite the hinged side are each provided with a front side, the front side and the rear side being connected by a side wall, the bottom part being provided with means for receiving products and the top part being provided with a denesting feature, the denesting feature of a first container assembly extending in a first position of said top part and the denesting feature of a second container assembly adjacent to it extending in a second position of said top part, and said first position comprising a part not overlapping said second position of said top part, and said second position comprising a part not overlapping said first position of said top part.
- At least two different types of denesting features are present. These denesting features are placed in different positions. This always ensures that the denesting features following each other are not pushed into each other, but that the denesting features always come to rest upon each other, so that an optimum stack can be achieved.
- In the production of container assemblies it is already common to have several lines running side by side. It is subsequently easy to combine the final product of the different lines.
- the denesting feature comprises an indentation situated in the front side, side wall and/or rear side and extending inwards relative to said front side, side wall and/or rear side.
- container assembly such as that described here is a container assembly that in fact consists of two containers which can be separated from each other by a simple action during or after packing with the products - It is also possible to accommodate three or more of such containers in a single container assembly.
- the i dention can be provided with a cover at a later stage, so that it is hidden from view.
- a cover may be a label that is fitted externally over the indentation.
- tlxe bottom part of the container assembly is provided with a locking lip extending from the bottom part.
- the locking lip is provided with a locking lug, which is designed to move along the inside of the top part and to spring outwards on encountering an opening in the top part.
- thiis opening is provided directly connecting to the indentation. In this way the indentatio-n can be achieved in an extremely simple manner.
- the denesting feature extends not only over the front side of the top part of the container assembly, but also on the top side of the top part connecting to the front side.
- the indentation is provided near the transition between front side and top part.
- the locking lip described above is provided with a recess extending around the indentation. The part of the recess adjoining the indentation extends to a greater depth in the top part of the container assembly.
- FIG. 1 shows in detail a view according to arrow III in Fig. 1, with closed lid; and Figs. 4 a and 4b show in detail the stacking on top of each other of a series of container assemblies provided with the denesting feature according to the present invention.
- a double egg box is indicated by 1 in the figures. s described above, the invention is not limited to a single or multiple egg box, but can comprise any pack consisting of a top part and a bottom part hingedly connected to each other.
- the top part or lid is indicated b»y 2
- the bottom part is indicated by 3.
- cavities 4 are bounded by projections 5. Eggs can be accommodated in a protected manner in such cavities.
- Top part 2 and bottom part 3 are connected at the rear side 25 and 26 respectively by means of a hinge 6.
- Reference numeral 7 indicates the sides of the bottom part 3, while the sides of the top part 2 are indicated by 8.
- the front side of the bottom part 3 is indicated by 9, while the front side of the top part is indicated by 10.
- Locking lips 13 connect to the front side 9 of the bottom part 3, which locking lips spring outwards and are provided with locking lugs 14.
- the locking lip 13 is provided with a recess 15 near the lug.
- the bottom part 3 is provided with a rear side 12, while the top part 2 is provided with a rear side 11.
- In the front side 10 of the top part 2 there is an opening 16 into which locking lug 14 can fall. This can be seen more particularly from Fig. 2.
- a denesting feature is situated above said opening 16.
- this denesting feature is in the form of a denesting lug 17.
- the denesting lug 17 consists of a part 19, which is horizontal in the drawing, and a vertical part 21 displaced inwards and connected to said horizontal part. These parts together form an indentation.
- a recess 20 relative to the front side 10 and the horizontal part 19 is present, as can be seen from Fig. 3.
- Locking lip 13 is provided with a recess 15 which is designed in such a way that said recess falls around the horizontal part 19, so that the lip 13 extends practically to the top side of the top part. An extremely stable locking can be provided in this way. In the closed state the horizontal part 19 rests upon part 13 (see fig.
- a label 22 or the like may be placed over the opening 16. In the closed position the lug 14 extends through opening 16 and unlocking can be carried out by pressing lug 14 in through opening 16.
- a label 22 is designed in such a way that the label is provided with an opening
- This height is determined by the height of the lugs, in other words the height of the vertical part 21 (Fig. 3).
- the present invention provides an integration of the lug 14, the corresponding opening 16 and the denesting lug 17.
- the denesting lugs 17, 18 described here can be post-pressed in a simple manner, in other words they acquire a smooth external appearance, which is sometimes desired. Owing to the fact that the wall thickness of the parts 19, 21 does not have to differ from the wall parts of the other material of the pack, from the point of view of production no problems are caused by greater material thickness.
- the staggered construction of the denesting lugs 17, 18 means that it is extremely easy to make said denesting lugs of a relieved design.
