Definitions
- the invention generally relates to the field of cutting tools. More specifically, the invention relates to a device for cutting technical passages in a free surface of a block of insulating material, in particular of expanded polystyrene or polyurethane. These technical passages are grooves formed on the free surface of the block, intended for typically passing sheaths in which electric wires pass. According to the prior art, these passages are created using cutters of the upholsterer type. This cutter work is long and tedious. In addition, the cutters are well suited for cutting the sides of the passages but not at all for cutting the bottom. As a result, it is difficult to obtain a precise and uniform section along the entire passage. In this context, the aim of the present invention is to overcome the above-mentioned defects.
- the cutting device of the invention comprises a base resting on the free surface of the block by a lower face, a handle fixed on the base, and knives integral with the base or the handle projecting under the lower face.
- the device comprises two knives having respective mutually parallel flat side parts, these parts extending from the lower face in planes perpendicular to this face, these planes defining the longitudinal direction normal movement of the device on the free surface.
- said lateral parts of the knives have elongated shapes and extend obliquely from the lower face, from a rear longitudinal side of this face.
- the knives each have a bent free end in the direction of the other knife, extending the lateral part from a side opposite to the lower face, this free end extending in a plane parallel to the lower face.
- the free end of one of the knives is offset backwards relative to the free end of the other knife.
- the free ends of the knives have rear edges raised towards the underside.
- the handle has an elongated shape and extends from the base substantially in line with the knives, on a front longitudinal side of the lower face opposite the rear longitudinal side.
- the device comprises means for selectively varying the angle formed by the handle with the underside of the base.
- the device comprises a guide T, provided with a longitudinal profile having a square section and a transverse rod secured to the profile, the base comprising means of removable fixing on the rod with a transverse spacing adjustable relative to to the profile.
- the knives are removably attached to the base.
- FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the knives of the device of FIG. 1;
- FIG. 5 is a top view of the knives of FIG. 4, and
- FIG. 6 is a perspective view of part of a technical passage cut out with the device in FIG. 1.
- the cutting device 2 illustrated in the Figure 2 is intended to create technical passages 3 in a free surface 11 of a block 1 of insulating material. It is specially adapted for cutting light materials, foams, expanded materials, and in particular expanded polystyrene or polyurethane which are very commonly used for thermal insulation of buildings. As shown in FIG. 2, the cutting device 2 is suitable, for example, for creating technical passages 3 in rectangular prefabricated panels, of considerable length and width and of small thickness relative to the length or the width.
- These panels each consist of a plasterboard 4 and a block 1 of insulating material in the form of a plate, glued to a large face of the plasterboard 4.
- the plasterboard and insulating material have the same length. and width than the panel.
- the free surface 11 in which the cutting device 2 creates the technical passage is the large face of the block 1 opposite the plasterboard 4.
- the device aims to create passages 3 which are grooves of rectangular section in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction in which said groove extends. These grooves are open on the free face 11 and delimited by two opposite side walls 31 and a bottom 32, as shown in FIG. 6.
- the cutting device 2 comprises a base 20 resting on the free surface 11 of the block 1 by a face lower 21 plane, a handle 30 fixed on the base 20, and knives 40 integral with the base 20 or the handle 30 protruding under the lower face 21.
- the knives 40 protrude in the thickness of the block 1.
- the device 2 comprises two knives 40 having mutually parallel respective flat side parts 41. These parts 41 extend from the lower face 21 in planes perpendicular to this face, and make it possible to cut the side walls 31 of the passage 3.
- the planes in which the side parts 41 extend define the normal longitudinal direction of displacement of the cutting device 2 on the free surface 11.
- the lateral parts 41 of the knives 40 each have an elongated shape and extend obliquely from the lower face 21, from a rear longitudinal side of this face 21. More specifically, the lateral parts 41 are in the form of parallelograms and are each delimited by two short longitudinal edges 411 mutually parallel, and two long oblique edges 412 mutually parallel. Considered transversely, these oblique edges 412 form an angle of approximately 45 ° with the lower face 21. The oblique edge 412 turned on a front longitudinal side opposite the rear side is sharpened and constitutes the cutting edge of the lateral part 41 of the knife 40.
- the cutting device 2 normally moves on the free surface 11 in the longitudinal direction, d 'back to front.
- One of the short edges 411 extends in the immediate vicinity of the lower face 21.
- the knives 40 also each have a free end 42 bent in the direction of the other knife 40, extending the lateral part 41 by the short edge opposite to the lower face 21.
- This free end 412 extends in a plane parallel to the lower face 21.
- the free ends 42 make it possible to cut the bottom 32 of the passage 3. As shown in FIG.
- the free ends 42 each have the form of a quadrilateral, delimited by the short edge 411 common with the lateral part 41, a leading edge 422 contiguous to the short edge 411 and turned towards the front, an extreme edge 423 opposite to the short edge 411 and extending substantially perpendicular to the leading edge 422, and a rear edge 421 connecting the short edge 411 to the edge 423.
- the leading edge 422 extends rearward from the short edge 411. It is sharpened and constitutes the edge stroke ant of the free end 42 of the knife 40. It extends over more than half of the transverse spacing between the lateral parts 41 of the two knives, this spacing defining the transverse width of the passage 3.
- the rear edges 421 are slightly raised towards the lower face 21.
- the free end 42 of one of the knives 40 is offset backwards with respect to the free end 42 of the other knife 40.
- the leading edges 422 form a V pointed backwards, one of the branches of the V being offset backwards relative to the other.
- the knives 40 are suitable for cutting passages of 35 millimeters in transverse width, and 30 millimeters in depth.
- the size of the side parts and of the free ends can be modified to cut passages of sections of different dimensions, smaller or larger.
- the base 20 comprises two practically identical metal brackets 22, each having a horizontal plate 221 and a vertical plate 222 perpendicular to the horizontal plate.
- the vertical plates 222 of the two brackets 22 extend parallel to each other, and parallel to the longitudinal direction.
- the horizontal plates 221 extend in the transverse extension of each other and define the lower face 21.
- the knives 40 each comprise an upper part 43 bent, integral with the lateral part 42 by the short short edge 411 of the base 20.
- This upper part 43 comprises a connecting part 431 secured to said short edge 411 and extending substantially parallel to the lower face 21, and a fixing part 432 extending substantially perpendicular to the connecting part 431 and coming to be housed between the two vertical plates 222.
- the connecting and fixing parts are thin plates, the fixing part 432 extending longitudinally, parallel to the two vertical plates 222.
- the two vertical plates 222 and the fixing parts 432 two knives 40 are each pierced by two orifices. These orifices are arranged in the extension of each other to form two transverse perforations.
- the base 20 comprises two bolts 23 engaged in these perforations and pressing against each other the two vertical plates 222 and the two fixing parts 432 so as to secure them.
- the orifices 433 of the knives 40 open onto free edges of the fixing part 43.2 by means of notches 434.
- the knives 40 are thus fixed on the base 20 of so as to be easily removable. To remove them, it is sufficient to loosen the bolts 23 slightly to spread the vertical plates 222, and to move the fixing parts 433 so as to slide the bolts from the holes 433 along the notches 434 to the free edges of the parts of fasteners 432.
- the lower face 21 typically has the shape of a square with a side of 9 cm.
- the handle 30 has an elongated shape and extends from the base 20, on a front longitudinal side of the lower face 21. It extends in a generally oblique direction, substantially in the extension of the lateral parts 41 of the knives 40.
- the handle 30 is formed of a hollow metal tube, and comprises a first straight longitudinal segment 31 integral with the base 20 and substantially parallel to the underside 21, and a second straight segment 32 extending the first on an opposite side at the base 20, this second segment 32 extending obliquely forward from the first, away from the underside 21.
- the free end of the second segment 32 constitutes a handle 33 capable of being entered manually by a user of the device to move it in a longitudinal direction.
- the brackets 22 each comprise an arm 223 extending longitudinally forwards from the vertical plates 222, and constituting fixing flanges of the first segment 31 of the handle 30.
- the cutting device 2 comprises a guide T 50, provided with a longitudinal profile 51 having a square section and a transverse rod 52 integral with the profile, the base 20 comprising means 24 for removable attachment to the rod 52 with an adjustable transverse spacing relative to the profile 51.
- the profile 51 comprises a horizontal wing 511 extending in the same plane as the underside 21, and a vertical wing 512 extending perpendicular to the horizontal wing, in the longitudinal direction.
- the vertical wing 512 is integral with a longitudinal edge of the horizontal wing 511 opposite the base 20.
- the vertical and horizontal wings have opposite slightly raised front and rear edges.
- the profile 51 is intended, as shown in Figure 2, to follow an edge of the insulating plate 1, the horizontal wing 51 being placed on the free surface 11, and the vertical wing 52 against the edge of this plate 1.
- the transverse rod 52 is welded on a face of the horizontal wing 51 opposite to the insulating plate 1, and extends transversely on respective faces of the horizontal plates 221 of the base 20 opposite to the insulating plate 1.
- the removable fixing means 24 comprise a stirrup 241 projecting from the surface of one of the horizontal plates 221 and in which the transverse rod 52 is slidably engaged, and a locking screw 242 engaged in an orifice in the stirrup 241 and allowing the rod to be pressed against the horizontal plate to block it in translation.
- the guide T 50 therefore makes it possible to longitudinally guide the movement of the cutting 2, the section 51 moving along the edge of the plate 1 with the base 20 and the knives 40. It also makes it possible to adjust the spacing between the edge of the plate 1 and the passage 3 to be cut.
- the transverse rod 52 typically has a transverse width of 60 centimeters, which makes it possible to adjust the position of the passage 3 within a range of spacing relative to the edge of the plate 1 ranging from 7.5 centimeters minimum to 55 centimeters maximum . It will be noted that the longitudinal length of the device is approximately 52 centimeters, including the handle.
- the cutting device is very easy to use. To cut a passage 3 in a plate, the device is first positioned at a longitudinal edge of the plate, the profile 51 being arranged on an edge of the plate, and the spacing between the profile 51 and the base 20 is adjusted. using the removable fixing means 24.
- the cutting device 2 comprises means for selectively varying the angle formed by the handle 30 with the underside 21 of the base 20.
- the handle 30 is in this case not welded to the base 20, but mounted articulated on that -this around a pivot link of transverse axis.
- the cutting device of the invention has multiple advantages. It is very ergonomic, and allows a user to easily cut, without bending down or getting tired, a passage in an insulating plate. Cutting is much faster than with a cutter. It is also much sharper, due to the angled shape of the knives.
- the device is of very simple construction, and is therefore inexpensive. The knives can be exchanged without having to separate the two brackets constituting the base of the device.
- the guide T makes it possible both to precisely adjust the transverse position of the passage to be cut, and to guide the device in its movement.
- the raised rear edge of the knives pulls out the cut insulation rod from the passage. The user can enter it effortlessly.
- the oblique inclination of the blades and the handle allows good transmission of the efforts of the user, without risk of causing the device to tilt during cutting.
