  • the present sealing strip leaves little or no opportunities for error in application (i.e. the sealing strip is more or less what is occasionally referred to as "foolproof), due to the symmetric design, as will be appreciated by the artisan.
  • the sealing strip may be manufactured by extruding a continuous length of elastomeric material from a conventional extruder, which includes a die formed in the shape of the cross-section of the sealing strip. Uncured polymer is fed into the extruder, which forces the material out from the extruder in the desired configuration. The uncured, extruded sealing strip is drawn through a vulcanizer in a conventional manner. The sealing strip will cure due to the temperature of the vulcanizer. As the sealing strip proceeds from the vulcanizer, it will be cut into desired lengths and then processed as appropriate for each application.
  • Multiple sealing strips may be extruded simultaneously and in parallel through one die; this is because the width of the cross-section of the present sealing strip is well defined, without any parts protruding in lateral direction.

  • air ducts 150 and 160 are defined between sealing members 50, 60, and 70, and the second confronting surface 140. Air ducts 150 and 160 provide thermal insulation in addition to that provided by the confined space 90, resulting in overall excellent sealing and insulation properties.

Abstract

L'invention concerne une bande d'étanchéité élastomère allongée (10) qui comprend : une section de base sensiblement planaire (20) dont la section transversale présente un premier et un deuxième bord (30, 40); trois éléments d'étanchéité (50, 60, 70) s'étendant dans le sens longitudinal qui sont associés de manière solidaire à ladite section de base planaire, le premier et le deuxième de ces éléments (50, 60) étant positionnés au niveau du premier et du deuxième bord (30, 40), respectivement, le troisième élément (70) étant positionné en un point situé à équidistance entre lesdits premier et deuxième bords (30, 40). La section transversale de la bande d'étanchéité est symétrique autour d'une perpendiculaire (80) traversant la largeur de ladite section de base au niveau dudit point situé à équidistance entre lesdits bords, le troisième élément d'étanchéité (70) présentant un profil (90) de section transversale creux et une partie paroi (100) définie par une limite extérieure (110) et une limite intérieure (120), ces limites étant sensiblement parallèles l'une par rapport à l'autre.
