This means that the sealing properties of the present sealing strip in relation to varying clearances between confronting surfaces is improved in relation to prior art sealing strips. In addition, the relative small wall thickness of the flanges provides for even more improved flexibility of the sealing strip in relation to such unevenness.
  • the sealing strip of the invention provides better sealing characteristics at lower compressions than do the prior art sealing strips, which facilitates closing. The sealing properties are particularly improved for situations where the system of the sealing strip and the confronting surfaces is subjected to wind or draught, especially in situations where the confronting surfaces are put in motion in relation to each other.
  • the sealing strip may be manufactured by extruding a continuous length of elastomeric material from a conventional extruder, which includes a die formed in the shape of the cross-section of the sealing strip. Uncured polymer is fed into the extruder, which forces the material out from the extruder in the desired configuration. The uncured, extruded sealing strip is drawn through a vulcanizer in a conventional manner. The sealing strip will cure due to the temperature of the vul- canizer. As the sealing strip proceeds from the vulcanizer, it will be cut into desired lengths and then processed as appropriate for each application.
  • Multiple sealing strips may be extruded simultaneously and in parallel through one die; this is because the width of the cross-section of the present sealing strip is well defined, without any parts protruding in lateral direction.

Flanges 70 and 75 protrude along lines between a symmetry axis 50 and the horizontal plane coinciding with base 25. As seen in Fig 1, flanges 70 and 75 protrude, when the sealing strip is in an unladened state, above the upper tangential line of sealing members 15 and 20.
  • flange 70 is deformed inwardly toward the first 80 of the confronting surfaces when the second confronting surface 90 is brought into contact with and pressed against sealing strip 10.
  • an air duct 100 is defined between flanges 70, 75 and the second confronting surface 80.
  • the air duct 100 provides thermal insulation in addition to that provided by the confined spaces 40 and 45, resulting in overall excellent sealing and insulation properties.
  • Fig. 3a to 3c shows how a sealing strip 10 according to the invention can be adapted to be applied to a corner of a door or window frame.

  • a section has been cut out in one 20 of the sealing members, leaving a cut out section 110 in this sealing member.

  • the cut out section 110 defines an isosceles right triangle with the right angle vertex 120 falling into, or contiguously to, the common wall portion 60.
  • Fig. 3b the sealing strip 10 is been bent around the vertex 120, so as to eventually bringing the cut surfaces of section 110 into contiguous contact.
  • Fig. 3c the cut surfaces of section 110 are brought into contact with each other, thus essentially restoring the confined space within sealing member 20. Sealing member 15 is still in its original closed state.
  • Fig. 4 the sealing strip 10 adapted as illustrated in Figs. 3a-c is shown when finally applied in a window frame 130. Both air ducts, as confined within the sealing members 15 and 20, are present even in the corner 140 of the window frame.

Abstract

L'invention concerne une bande d'étanchéité élastomère allongée (10) qui comprend deux éléments d'étanchéité (15, 20) s'étendant dans le sens longitudinal qui sont associées de manière solidaire à une section de base (25) sensiblement planaire, chaque élément d'étanchéité comprenant une partie paroi incurvée (30, 35) qui définit une section transversale creuse (40, 45) et présentant des formes et des dimensions mutuelles identiques. Lesdits éléments d'étanchéité (15, 20) sont disposés de manière symétrique par rapport à un axe de symétrie (50) perpendiculaire à ladite section de base planaire (25), sur cette dernière, les deux parties parois incurvées (30, 35) étant réunies entre les sections transversales creuses (40, 45) sous forme de partie paroi commune unique (60).
